Boma or Jiko-The Cooking Place?

We have two small children and went sept 08. Loved it, food was great and the kids had no prob. filling their tummy's. Enjoy.

So glad I found this thread :goodvibes

We're going in Dec/Jan, and I was having a hard time figuring out which to do...

Think I'm leaning a little towards Jiko ATM. It'll be me, DH, DD10 & DD11, and given both DDs are paying adult prices for Boma, but would share a main meal at Jiko, the $$ are pretty well the same for us (we'll share appetisers and desserts between us). Buuuuuttttt, Boma looks so good that we may just have to make ADR's for that too!!!
Are you going this December or December 2009? If it's this December, you should call ASAP and see if there is anything left at Boma or Jiko for any night during your stay. Boma tends to book up a couple of months in advance, Jiko books up more slowly since it's more expensive. About two months ago we changed our itinerary for our December trip and I wanted to book Boma for a different night. I'm still trying to get something and every time I call the answer is the same: nothing available for any of the nights we can go. If your trip is in Dec 2009, then no problem getting into either one as long as you call several months in advance. Good luck!

We did both in Oct, both were firsts for us. Boma was not our cup of tea but we fell head over heels in love with Jiko

my vote would be Boma.
the selection is incredible, & the chefs are happy to offer suggestions (& converse;) ). we enjoy tasting a bit of everything, then going back for our faves.
we enjoyed jiko, but found the fare not unusual enough to warrant multiple visits (we go a few times a year, jiko is a no-more-than-1x-annually visit). jiko definately wins for a more adult, quieter atmosphere though.

enjoy:thumbsup2

I read on this board that Jiko recently changed chefs and that they are still "adjusting" the menu. If I go to a signature restaurant, I would expect them to have it "right".

We were there last week and it's plenty "right" now. We could see the changes and fell in love with the new beef rolls. No reason to delay.

Psst - this thread is from JUNE, not recently. It was bumped for some reason.

We tend to lean towards Jiko over Boma. While both are really good we love the atmosphere and food at Jiko more. We ate at Jiko twice in Oct. and loved it. If you can swing it give both a try.
