The time has come to make reservations.. yay! But.. We are staying at AKL and neither my DH or myself like anything with curry or a lot of spices. We arrive at 2:00 so I could technically get a reservation off-site.. but do you think Boma has a selection for picky eaters? We are totally meat and potato kind of people, if that helps!

Have you taken a look at the menu on Allears.net? It lists the kinds of items you can expect to see at Boma's for dinner (I'm assuming you're arriving at 2 pm and not 2 am).

I've eaten dinner once (a while ago) and it was pretty good. I'm also not a big fan of curries (though the mild ones are growing on me) and spicy items. Though, when you say "a lot of spices" do you mean a variety of spices (i.e., the things you flavor dishes with) or spicy? Many of the items had African influences, but several only had a passing influence. I remember the roasted meats being good and pretty traditional.

Boma has meat and potatoes. No curry on the meat whatsoever. Potato dishes vary. But, they have a LOT of food that isn't very "African" or spicy at all. If you're staying at AKL you should try it at least once. It's a great buffet.

This!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 And they have a very nice breakfast buffet, too. I think you will find Mara, their CS place will serve enough basic, plain food to suit you as well.

I agree :thumbsup2 We love it and a lot of the sauces are served on the side so you spice what you like. We enjoy plenty of spices and herb seasonings, so actually some of the food was bland to us, but we fixed that up just nicely with the sauces provided. Some of the food is different (supposed to be) but it's a must-do place when we are there. The desserts are great too :yay:

Do you need reservations for any of the restaurants at AKL? We are staying there also and I was wondering if we could decide last minute or not.
My daughter and I are also picky eaters. :)

If you would like to actually see pictures of most of the foods on the buffet and a review of Boma's, Josh at easywdw recently posted them on his blog. (I don't know if I have enough posts to post a website so pardon to way its broken up.)

I went to Disney with my family this past summer and we were originally staying at AKL so booked Boma for our arrival night dinner. Although we eventually ended up switching to Riverside, we kept our first night Boma reservations. We're really not big on spices, maybe my mom sometimes, but that's about it. However, we all looooved Boma. Definitely going back next trip! It was so delicious. There were no spices that my dad noticed (and he definitely would have noticed, he's very sensitive to spicy food). I remember Boma had some fairly plain meat, not too spicy at all. Even if you're a picky eater (I'm not the most adventurous eater myself) I'd definitely recommend trying a little bit of everything! I ended up loving the salmon and I have never liked fish before. Some of the foods there have African influences or are traditional African food but it's a wonderful buffet! I'd recommend it for sure (:

Another vote for Boma. The food is excellent. Lots of variety and plenty of different food. The flavors are off the beaten path without being so far off that they're in the weeds.

One of our favs

My favorite restaurant anywhere :goodvibes.

I did enjoy Boma too, but 2 of my picky kids didn't really enjoy it. I was disappointed that the soups I'd heard so much about were really not my thing!:confused3 They did have some great other options that I really liked and of course, the desserts were AMAZING!
My 2 younger children didn't find a lot they liked besides the typical kids table (mac & cheese) but they were ok with it.
We did have a wonderful waiter there and enjoyed touring AKL. It really is a fun atmosphere and definitely worth trying!
