BOMA lovers-HELP ME OUT HERE!

Thanks for this thread! I'm interested in trying Boma for the first time on our next trip.

Unless your DH likes being handcuffed to his server and marrying her in front of the entire restaurant or riding a stick horse through the tables waving his red napkin in the air, Boma may be the better choice. :thumbsup2

DH is definitely a beef & potatoes man. His favorite restaurant is Boma! :lmao:

We will be eating at Boma twice for dinner in June.

I adore Boma, and I consider it the only worthwhile buffet on Disney property, especially for dinner. (The breakfast, while my favorite at Disney, is only a bit better than the average breakfast buffet.)

I could make an entire meal out of the soup bar and salad appetizers. The soups are absolutely fantastic, and I strongly recommend you try a spoonful of as many as you possibly can. Honestly, after the soups, the entrees feel secondary.

Which doesn't mean they aren't delicious! I like the nut-crusted salmon, in particular.

At Boma, diners are intended to graze -- you know, the like the animals in the savannah outside. Take a little taste of the breads and dips, a little salad, a little soup. To maximize your enjoyment, don't approach it the way you would a traditional table-service dinner, with defined courses and a protein-rich entree. You would miss out on Boma's greatest offerings.

BOMA IS SO DELICIOUS!!!! It is our favorite restaurant in all of Orlando. We've been to all the "higher-end" Disney restaurants (which are good) but doesn't give you the variety and flavor that Boma does. We've also been to Jiko - which in my opinion, is the best "2 table service credit" restaurant on property (if you're doing the DDP) but you still don't get the variety that Boma gives you.

We go there at least twice every trip (even if we're only there for 7 days). It can be a bit of a trip to get there (transportation to MK and then bus to AKL) but it is so worth it. Any pictures you see of the food does not do it justice. They change the menu twice a week but keep alot of the "standards". The ribs are wonderful and my favorite is the Fufu (mashed sweet potatoes). In fact, my 10 year old's favorite soup is the Butternut Squash and one time they didn't have it on the menu that night (there are usually 5 soups available each night). The waiter saw his disappointment and said that even though they don't have it out, they usually have it in the kitchen. They kept bringing him out bowls of soup until he would burst!! The desserts are nothing to sneeze at either - my favorite is the banana bread pudding with vanilla sauce. YUM!!

I'm really looking forward to trying Boma. We too were thinking of going to WCC but chose Boma instead just to try something different.

For your meat eating husband, not only do they have salmon and chicken always, they also have a carving station that has different meats up each night...perhaps some rotation that I am not sure about. When we have a large group we usually do Boma because everyone leaves very full and happy. We did do Ohana once for the meat eaters and it didn't go over as well as I thought it would. This is our absolute favorite buffet at Disney.

Seriously, WC is one of my least favorite places to eat. We only go if we are traveling with a 7-10 yo. Hate the food and hate the noise.

Boma has so many choices there is something for everyone's taste. The meats are amazing, the selection can not be beat. Why eat sausage and ribs when you are on vacation- be adventuresome.

Boma is our favorite Disney restaurant. The soups are great, the meats are very good. We love the variety, but we haven't been there in a couple years because of the pricing. If you are on the dining plan this isn't an issue, but if you are paying oop it is really pricey. As much as we love it, we can't justify the price. Our kids are now 10 and 12 so are now "disney adults" and so we would be paying for 4 adults at $40 each. Its just too much.

I am not a picky eater but was not impressed with Bomas food. Although I did enjoy the deserts. So for me it was a Desert buffet :D

Boma = :love: :love: :love:

The soups, the Bobotie, the zebra domes. :cloud9: We ate there twice (once for breakfast & dinner) in July when we stayed at AKL that we're going back again in August, even though we're staying at CSR. Well worth the trip! :thumbsup2

Glad to see this thread. I had Boma on the list then took it off fearing my DH would be intimidated to try anything. He's not overly picky but not adverturesome unless I can explain the dish in detail! So, then I put it back on for breakfast thinking that would be safer. Then I took it off again because I thought gorging ourselves on bfast buffet and hitting the rides..well, not pleasant. So, now it's back on again for Dinner because of this thread! :dance3: I think it will suit us all. I LOVE soups and salads and DH loves meat as well as does DD7. Excited to try it now!

Can someone explain if the meats are prepared with any unique spices or sauces that would make the basic 'meat and potatoes' guy skeptical?

The roasted chicken has certain spices on them, nothing to terribly ovepowering, at least IMP, the roast beef however is simply your typical American beef roast!

DW and DDs are dedicated carnivores. They will go back time and again to get slices of that beef. The seasoning is a bit unusual, but if my crew like it, it's fairly middle of the road. I know soup doesn't sound too enticing, but the Boma soups are really, really good. This isn't Campbell's stuff, it's very flavorful. I'm the adventure eater in our group and I enjoy much of what is offered (and I don't eat the beef at all--too normal for me). If all else fails, they have great desserts including some good chocolate chip cookies.:earsboy:

Thank you both! I'm thinking we've got a new ADR on the horizon. . .or at least will attempt one! (5 days away from our 180 day out mark!)
:)

The first time we ate at Boma a couple of years ago we were all unimpressed with the food and I was kind of let down because of my high expectations from all the rave reviews.

However, this last trip in January there was one night where it rained really hard that we decided not to venture back out to Epcot for our ADR, so it was either eat at Sanaa again or Boma (since we were staying at AKL). My husband was adamant against Boma, but even though we all loved Sanaa the kids and I wanted to give it another shot and try it again, so we won.

Let me just say it ended up being one of our favourite meals the whole trip! Even my husband's! I know the menu does go through a rotation, so some days may be better than others (we ate there on a Thursday if that matters), but I was pretty happy with almost everything I tried. I remember the salmon being excellent. Loved the mealie bread (like a cornbread muffin), the salads and soups were all good and the desserts were excellent. I stayed away from some of the dishes that looked like they might be sweet (not a fan of sweet savoury), and we were all happy. Plus you can get the infamous Jungle juice or Frunch as a beverage! Go for it! :cool1:
