We are vegetarians and want to eat at Boma at AKL. Will we be able to tell what items are vegetarian? Do the label/identify the items on the buffet?
Thanks,
DJ

I am not a vegetarian (I don't eat all meat, only seafood and poultry), but I do remember there being a great deal of sides and salads that would be vegetarian friendly.

When you make your PS, you may want to mention that you are a vegetarian. I have read that, upon request, the chef will walk you through the buffet, and let you know what you can and cannot eat. At times, the chef has even created a vegetarian main dish for the customer, as well.

As buffets go, I think Boma would be the best for a vegetarian, as they have many non-meat options.

I have had both dinner (2x) and breakfast (1x) and definately prefer dinner. Breakfast seems to be more traditional fare, while dinner is an adventure!

Enjoy!

I have read reports that one of the chefs will come out and talk to you, and if needed, they will fix something "special" for you.

Thanks! I will mention it when I make our reservations. I didn't think about doing that. It does sound like a wonderful buffet! I can't wait! The resort sounds so wonderful.

We will skip breakfast because we want to go to the early Magic Hour openning of AK and since it opens at 8:00 we were afraid we wouldn't have time to eat breakfast at Boma. We will find something at the park after we go through the Safari.

we like to make a late breakfast PS at Donald's breakfastosaurus (if you're not vegan, it should be a good choice) their made to order veggie omlettes are very good. We then just grab a snack if we get hungry before closing (usually a frozen bananna). If you're not driving, and you take a bus to AKL, you might find getting back to your resort a little time consuming, but not hard. It really depends on where you are staying. An MK or Epcot resort would be easy to get to (hop a bus to that park, then monorail or boat to the resort), but a mod or AS would require transferring busses.

edited to add .... read your sig. easiest way to get to an Epcot resort from another resort IMHO is a bus to MGM since you can catch the boat right at the entrance, instead or walking through epcot to WS.

Thanks! I just checked out the menu and it does look like it would be good for us (we aren't vegan, so that does make it easier). It's a character breakfast too, how cool! I am going to add this to my list.

We are getting a rental car for the week and will drive to AK from the lodge because we are moving to Old Key West resort that day. We can only stay one day at AKL (using Disney Vacation Club points, and I am already on borrowed points for this year and can only afford to go for one night there, figured the first day is good because we aren't going to the parks anyway, so we can hang out and enjoy the lodge that afternoon after we arrive).

Thanks again for the advice!

Excuse my ignorance --- what is the difference between a vegatarian and a vegan?

Renee

Actually, there are different types of vegetarians and vegan is one type. Vegans do not eat any animal products at all (no eggs or milk products). I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian, which means I will eat things with eggs or milk in them, but no meat products.

Some people say they are vegetarians, but eat fish and poultry, but that isn't really a classification of vegetarian. I have seen:

Lacto-ovo Vegetarians (eating milk and egg products, but no meat)
Lacto Vegetarians (eating milk products, but no egg products or meat)
Vegan (eating no milk or egg products or meat)

Someone else may be able to explain it better, but that is how I understand the differences.
Hope that helps,
DJ

Thanks that helps. I have heard the two terms and never really understood the difference. I love my veggies but I really loved the Prime Rib at Boma:p :p :p
