we are planning on checking out AKL after our day at Typhoon Lagoon
was thinking of just picking up something to eat at Mara
but Boma is being highly recommended
Im just not sure what DS13 who is a very picky eater would eat
Is there anything that's not "different"?

There are sooo many threads about Boma and picky eaters :)
But okay, at Boma there are childfriendly items as well. Like french fries, chicken strips, macaroni cheese, pasta with meatballs etc.etc.
But even the more exotic items look so tasty, that I am sure your son would like to taste some of it. And if not they have a dessertselection to die for :rotfl:

My 14 yo DS is very picky and loves Boma, so that might tell you something.

Same here. DS eats his weight in strawberries when he is there and he loves the HUGE chocolate chip cookies :) The pasta is without sauce too which DS really likes. He's the ultimate in picky. He eats plain pasta even!! I think he feels bad that it's so expensive and he doesn't eat much variety, but I told him not to worry his dad would recover his loss :teeth:

My youngest DS is the pickiest of the pickiest, and when we went to Boma, they didn't have the chicken strips. Instead they had chicken wings, which he doesn't like and he didn't want anything else on the buffet line. Our server was very nice and he made a special trip to get regular chicken strips from Mara for him and didn't charge us extra for it.

I've seen mac and cheese and pasta everytime. There's also fruit - last week I saw strawberries, grapes, cantelope, etc. Boma is really good!

Sorry, but that is crazy.

If my child wont eat whats given to her, she goes hungry for that night.

It does not happen very often, but eventually she will ask for some food. We get her plate out of the fridge, heat it up, and she eats it.

Let your kids walk all over you at home, and the will certainly do it on vacation.

Sorry, but this kid will go hungry if he doesn't want the food that's in front of him. He'd rather not eat than eat something that isn't the right shape/texture/color whatnot. He does this even when we go out to eat. If his chicken strips isn't what he likes, he won't eat it and he does go hungry. He has gone hungry many times, and yes he'll eat something later on, but it's still not going to be the something that he doesn't like.

He does not walk all over me at home. He is simply a chicken strips eater and that's all he will eat. I pick my battles carefully. Food issues is not a battle I choose to pick with him. I have more important things to teach him.

Being a picky eater DOES NOT mean he rules over me! I remember being a picky eater as a child and I certainly am not a picky eater as an adult now.

Just edited to add: my oldest DS was also a picky eater. But now, he's starting to learn to like other things. He never would've eaten a PB&J before but now he eats it almost every day. Why shove food on a kid just to torture them? What's the point? They'll grow out of their pickiness and that's fine by me. I ask them to try a food, if they don't like it, OK but at least they tried it. Maybe in a couple months I ask them to try it again. I don't need to shove food on a kid to make him healthy.

Sorry you feel that way.

That's what my mom did to me growing up and I still hate many of the foods she forced me to eat to this day. I won't do the same to my kids. I have one that will eat anything and another that doesn't like certain foods. Why force someone to eat something they don't like? I still don't like most veggies...they make me gag.

oogieboogie, i agree with you my, DD who is 7 in may would starve if her food did not look right, it is a nightmare on times, especially when travelling but, i don,t want to force her to eat, thats how eating disorders and problems with food start, my other DD is 9 and now can be reasoned with and will try things she likes the look of, we may try bomas this may, I think its good to expose picky eaters to all different things, even though I know she will only eat the fries, plain pasta and the cookies. :confused3

::yes::

THANK YOU! I've had this same conversation with my Mom about my DD...

Another force fed kid who hates many foods to this day that were forced on me.

I also do NOT battle over foodwith my kids, but I don't offer alternatives either.

My Dh is the picky eater in our family
He loved the prime rib at Boma but hated everything else. He was not happy that all the sides were exotic (to him; he prefers plain food with no twist).
but the deserts are awesome so who needs "real" food :rotfl:
