BoG "signature" dessert released

So no choice of deserts? Not liking the fixed price option.

At signature restaurants my husband and I usually split an appetizer, get a salad or soup each, an entrée each, and either skip or share desert.

So here we would end up with TWO of these? No thanks

well a maraschino cherry is not particularly splittable anyway!

it's supposed to be prix fixe. I hate the idea, I can barely eat an entree let alone 3 course. though with this dessert it might be doable. :rotfl2:

This looks similar to what you get at BD when you do the Fantasmic package and that is also two dining credits.

That looks terrible.

Did anyone else laugh at “a whole cherry.” I mean come on, a chocolate covered cherry is small I’d hope they can give you a whole one; they’re also probably $.25 a piece.

With the French theme, they could have done so much better. I think we know how this is going. The food will be mediocre at best and the $55 price will quickly rise to $60,$65 and up. I guess if people are paying it, why make it better? We won’t be going.

I don't know......I think it's cute. I don't like cake/cupcakes, so I'd be good with this. This looks more labor intensive anyway vs. a cupcake - so for me - this seems more like a 2 credit dessert.

I detest WDW cupcakes so I for one am glad that there is at least a non-cupcake option, but even though it is a better option for me, I still don't think it is a great spread especially for those that will be spending 2 dining credits on the meal.

I re-read the blog post. It does not say this will be the one and only desert choice. Hoping as a signature restaurant there will be an actual desert menu with a few French inspired yummy deserts.

Did I miss something or am I being too hopeful? Because in my opinion this desert looks downright awful. Grey stuff??? We were always brought some after dinner by our servers. Complementary.

I think it looks good and perfect size for a dessert. I mean how much can you eat after already having an appetizer and entree? It's pretty, it's light....I think it's great. And it's Disney, I'm sure they will have other options for those that have allergies. And the article also doesn't say that this will be the only dessert. It's still a wait and see I think.

I don't know, maybe I've been watching too much Food Network, but the presentation (other than the nice tray) is really lacking --- for a Signature especially - the dessert sampler at Sanaa was nicer - ( if they still have it)

The chip is well---- cute - the cherry looks like it was taken from a Ferrero Rocher box and tossed on the plate -

Why do I have a feeling that this will be tweaked a bit ?

While it looks like a fun dessert, it doesn't seem like the dessert for a 2TS credit meal.
I hope this is just the first run at the signature dessert.
They still have time to improve.

"At Be Our Guest Restaurant, I recently posted about an exciting new dinner menu coming this summer, and I now have the scoop on the fabulous dessert trio. This trio will have a raspberry macaron with lemon filling and fresh raspberries, a whole maraschino cherry dipped in dark chocolate with hazelnut topping, and a white chocolate Chip cup with our signature Grey Stuff! It will also be exclusive to the dinner menu."

Really? a chocolate covered maraschino cherry and a macaron? Chip is cute with the grey stuff at least but this is not remotely a signature dessert.

What do you think? a sickly sweet artificial piece of "fruit" inside chocolate is not a step up from cupcakes!
I love desserts and anything sweet, so to me that looks great! ::yes::

The original blog post announcing the change to a prix fixe menu DID indicate that there was only one dessert choice, the sampler.

Yes another reason for not going to BoG when it goes to 2 credits. How much do you think this so called unique desert costs them? .25 cents maybe .50 cents if it can be cheapened its a go seems to be the new rule.

I actually think the trio looks really cute and worthy of a signature meal. You knew they were going to do something with the grey stuff and the current version on she super dry brownie base never did cut it for me, so this cute Chip cup seems like a good alternative. It will come down to the quality of the food. If that macaroon is done right, it could be amazing. And sure, one cherry is a bit skimpy, but signature dining portions are always on the smaller side because quality is the priority over quantity.

I think the dessert platter is cute; the 'whole cherry' thing is a bit ridiculous (as opposed to what, half a cherry?!) but I do like macarons, and Chip is REALLY cute!

But as a signature dessert??? No. Not even close. I still think the $55 per person price tag is quite reasonable for three courses, but if this is one of them, the other two had better step it up. I also think you'd have to be out of your mind to use 2 TS credits on this!

I am going to disagree vehemently with this assessment. Signature restaurants have pastry chefs on hand that create their desserts. They are often quite elaborate and imaginative and require quite a lot of skill.

I could make this in my kitchen today if I wanted to. I am not a professional pastry chef. Granted, the Chip cup requires skill, but it looks to be a simple molded piece, so not that impresive.

I guess it comes down to this. If this was NOT a Prix Fixe meal, would you pay $13-15 for this dessert? That's the going rate for desserts at signature restaurants.

I would not.

That photo doesn't even show a properly formed macaron shell. It's all full of holes on top. That should have gone in the trash, not to a photo shoot.

While I 100% agree with your assessment, I also don't think you'd get a three course meal at a signature restaurant for $55 either. I don't think the problem here is the price so much as the 'signature' terminology. This is not a signature dessert by any stretch of the imagination.
