DH only wants me to pick one because I can't eat very much. I've been reading as many reviews I can find about this, but I want some more opinions. Which should I choose??

I tried the French Onion last week & thought it was good. Not great. But good. I prefer my French Onion soup with a beef base and this was either a very thin chicken stock or more likely veggie. But the cheese on the top was excellent and well worth it.

Yea I've read that in some of the reviews. And you're right, it's because it's a vegetarian dish so they use veggie stock. I love a strong french onion soup, but i also keep reading great things about the potato soup.

It's a vegetarian base onion soup. So if that matters, go potato leek.

Go with the potato leek. The French onion soup is VERY weak....almost tasteless to me. Both my wife and I were fairly unimpressed with the FO soups, although it gets raves here.

Really appreciate everyone's opinions!! Would it help if i said dh is getting the braised pork? Idk if that has a meaty pork sauce and it would just be repetitive to get french onion bcuz it's a 'dark' traditionally meath broth.

The French onion soup there is nothing like what you're expecting it to be. It is vegetarian, and the "broth" is very light colored and not at all like most FO soups. Like I said, I was less than impressed with it...it hardly has any taste to both the wife and me. Your mileage may vary. Lots of people here absolutely love it, and I think it's simply "meh".

I went there last week and wanted the French onion soup so much (I usually love it but never had theirs). Since I was getting the steak I decided to skip appetizer and after reading these posts I am so glad I didn't waste my money!

They have changed the FO soup then. First year BOG was open DH had it and he said it was THE best he's had. And he has had the beef base soup from fancy restaurants. He's a FO connoisseur. He and the server had a conversation about how many onions went into the base and how long they were slow-cooked to get the base just right, etc. That's really too bad that they changed it.

I'm not a FO person but I'm a potato leek person, and I loved it there.

I love vegetable based soups and dishes but found the French Onion soup to be a tad sweet. Next time I think I will try the potato leek.

Tried both ... both were very good; can't go wrong with either. But if I had to choose, the French Onion was better.

We were there in August, not sure if the soup has changed since then.
Arguably our best meal at Disney, and we did two dinners at California Grill.

The steak and fries were excellent.

My husband and I also didn't care for the french onion soup at BOG. I'm not sure if it's because of the vegetable broth, but we found it odd tasting and would not order it again. I haven't tried the potato leek soup, but my husband thought it was really good. This is the one he would order again, if going back to BOG.

I've had both; I like the FO just fine but I think the potato leek is absolutely delicious, so that's my vote!

I have not ordered soup there in the last two trips so things may have changed but honestly, IMO, neither. When I had them two years ago they were insanely salty-that was the only flavor I could discern, seriously. I had the potato leek at lunch and the French onion at dinner and did not care for either.
