BOG- have later, want earlier

I'm a total noob so bear with me.

We have BOG dinner ressies for 8:15 but would like to eat earlier. Ressie booked through MDE.

Do I have to cancel the existing ressie before booking an earlier time (assuming I find one) or can I book an earlier time and then cancel the existing?

Will MDE automatically cancel my existing ressie if I search for an earlier time?

I'm hesitant to start searching around since I'm not familiar with MDE and don't want to mess up our 8:15 if there's nothing earlier. I worry that if I have to cancel it to book an earlier time, that time will be gone before I can cancel & get back in to it.

Unlike the BOG lunch system, you can search on MDE for another time without jeopardizing your current ADR. (Write down your reservation number to be sure).

When you search, if the all the lucky stars line up and you are able to get an earlier time, when you click on the time to reserve it, you will get a message that you already have a reservation in that time period (I think it's within an hour of the original ADR) and will ask if you want to cancel it.

When you click to cancel, you will reserve the new time and cancel the old time simultaneously. You will receive 2 separate emails to confirm the one cancellation and the other reservation.

One other thing, if you do find a reservation that is greater than the 1-2 hour window that MDE will not overlap reservations, you will still have to go back and cancel your original reservation (though you can do that after securing the new one, just make sure that you only end up with one in the end so that you aren't charged the no-show fee for the second reservation).
