Just back from the 9/2 cruise to Canada on the Magic out of NYC. My first trip on board was to the spa and fitness center to get rainforest passes and check out the fitness classes.
Well -- imagine my surprise when I read that the "nominal" fee for 4 30-minute boot camp sessions was $120! That's a dollar a minute, and almost 5 months of gym membership for me. I ended up doing a cycling class, which was a pretty good workout. Although, as a newbie to spin, I had trouble standing up on the bike with the ship moving and slipped off!! That class was complimentary, and all I had to do was tip the instructor. It's a much better bet.
The boot camp also came with a complimentary "body composition analysis", which I am sure was a vehicle to sell product or treatments. As for the Rainforest, I am not sure that I would do a weekly pass again. We only used it twice, and on the last day, it wasn't very good. There were no clean towels in the locker room or the Rainforest, no clean robes left (I got the second to last one), and the sauna was only marginally working. To top that off, two women in the Rainforest room were on the lounge chairs having a loud, long conversation for about a half hour. So much for tranquility!!
When I got back to the locker room, the dirty robes were piled almost to the ceiling and spilling onto the floor from the hamper. When we mentioned all this to the woman at the front desk of the spa, she shrugged and did nothing. This was VERY un-Disney-like. I know that the spa is separately run, but really?
I'm not one to complain, but that was an experience that really took away from the otherwise excellent
DCL experience.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the Rainforest Room stacks up on the Fantasy -- but I won't buy a week's pass!!
