Howdy! Thanks in advance for any info y'all can give me. We're looking at reserving from 12/31/17 - 1/7/18, 1 bedroom BW. We are trying to decide if we want to get a Boardwalk view or standard view. I'll have to buy some transferred points for the Boardwalk view.

We've gotten the BW view before and loved it, but found it to be a little noisy in the morning (we tend to stay in the parks late until just past closing and then try to sleep in late). We've also stayed in standard view rooms where we had to walk 5,000 miles (only slight exaggeration) to get to our rooms every day.

My questions....are all standard rooms that far away from the lobby? And if not, can you request to have a room closer? Any suggestions?

Thanks again so much -- y'all are great!

Most of the boardwalk view 1 bedrooms are the same long distance, above Big River and next to Jellyrolls. Some standard views are near the lobby, but also close to the luggage and valet area.

I forgot about the distance to the lobby from BW view. Think we'll book standard so I won't have to deal with too many extra points.

Does anyone know how they process request? Do they give request priority to the earliest booked reservations? Can you request a specific room or just an area?

One thing to keep in mind is that you have to call MS to book with transferred points and then either or both of those categories may be gone... though you wanting a 1BR gives you better odds as they tend to last longer. Anyway, as a BWV owner myself I would book standard view for ease and saving points. You can go online right at 8am on 11 month window day and book easy peasy.

The truth is that nobody really knows if there is one set way that room requests are handled. We've seen it be pretty much hit and miss. Requesting a specific room is allowed but keep in mind that if it is not available then they will just put you anywhere. A general area is much better along the lines of "close to the elevators".

If you do book a Standard View room, you might want to ask to be across from the bus stop. It's further from the lobby but closer to the bus stop. We've found that we go to the bus stop more often than we go to the lobby.

The pass the request along to the room assigner, who may or may not bother to look at it. I can't imagine there would be any "priority" at that point. They're trying to match up check-in and check-out dates for all rooms for the next 10 days.

Which parks to you normally visit? I've found that the farthest rooms from the lobby have the best access to Hollywood Studios, without giving up much of the distance to Epcot.

I liked our standard view room on the first floor because we could walk right out several doors they have on the first floor... by pool, near gym and on way to boardwalk...or go right out to lobby, even go out patio to parking lot.

How did you lock the patio door?

I love the Boardwalk view rooms. Until I had a couple of 16 hour days in the park and then had a 15-20 minute walk from the bus stop to my room. Never again. (I say that, but I will forget about the walk some day.)

You are seeking a start date, Dec 31, that is the highest DVC demand night of the year at WDW. It is usually best to get that day before Jan 31 with an earlier start date if seeking BWV standard or boardwalk view. Seeking a 1 BR gives you a greater chance but be aware even the boardwalk view 1BRs filled for Dec 31, 2016, moments after 8 a.m. on Jan 31, 2016 (the studios and 2BRs were gone by the day before). Particularly if you have to use transfer points, meaning you cannot reserve until 9, you face a risk of not getting boardwalk view and could also face that risk for standard view.

As to distance, it can be somewhat of a long walk from elevator to the end standard rooms, a little under 2 minutes average adult pace (somewhat slower with smaller children); end boardwalk rooms are closer to 90 seconds. It is not that bad (e.g., lobby to end rooms at Kidani's north wing take about 6 minutes average adult pace). The standards run from near the lobby to far from the lobby. You can ask for close to lobby or close to elevator but if noise is an issue be aware that it is the rooms close to the elevator that have the highest risk of noise. They unload luggage outside that area with noisy racks. You could ask for a room "across from the bus stop" as some have reported that request ends up putting you about halfway down the hall from the elevator. The ussue with boardwalk view is that views are somewhat better the further you are toward the end. One request you should definitely make with boardwalk view is higher or upper floor (and same for standard).
