Boardwalk pool down - no discounts?

Again, reasonableness. My situation was an uninhabitable room at a resort which was full, necessitating that we pack our belongings and be relocated. Over the years, I have wholeheartedly supported many members seeking remedy and compensation for inadequate service at DVC resorts. But not every situation falls into that category, and I certainly hope that the resort staff is applying reasonable standards in dealing with DVC members.

Compensation should not be arbitrarily offered whenever requested.

We got a plate of cupcakes for a toilet that was not functional for four hours - from when we arrived back at the parks until the plumbers left at midnight. It was a two bedroom - so there was another bathroom available - although having a plumber in your master bath at midnight does sort of create issues with nookie time - and a plate of cupcakes is poor compensation.

I have celiac.

So in summary... When you encounter an issue that is important to you, you'll take a remedy including compensation, and leave feeling treated fairly. But when someone else encounters an issue that is important to them (but not so important to you) and they feel treated unfairly, you'll hope Disney declines. Got it. But I don't agree with it.
You're being intentionally argumentative. We've all agreed that compensation is warranted. You simply disagree that the compensation provided (access to SAB) is sufficient. I'm sure they'd find a way to allow you to cancel your reservation without penalty. I wouldn't expect anything else.

As I posted earlier, this does indeed affect me. And when I received the letter, I viewed the compensation as an additional benefit which more than covered the inconvenience.

ITA. I'm also affected by this and I think of access to SAB as more than enough compensation. If we didn't have access to SAB and only had use of the quiet pools I may feel differently.

You are both repeating the same old point, and then calling me the argumentative one. :) That getting SAB is good enough for you. Fine. I believe it is. But that's just you. I don't know why you keep beating this into the ground that since it's not a big deal to you it shouldn't be to the OP. Can't you see that people have different priorities and what's important to someone else could be different from what's important to you? We changed around our entire stay when the Poly pool was down, and we could use the GF and get Tycoon Lagoon. Didn't want that. So we scrapped our plans and rebuilt a new trip at the CR. People are all different.

If you plan months in advance, make reservations and everything else required for a wdw vacation - then a week before told 'oh by the way you won't have a pool...but we're charging you the same'

Does that make sense to anyone?

It's too late for me to make a change. Walking across to stromolong pool (which will now be 2x crowded) doesn't appeal to me.

Didn't we pay to have a pool at our resort?

And if there isn't a pool shouldn't it be less expensive?

I've quoted the OP to show what they asked. A pool.

We've already determined there are 2 pools going to be open at the resort.

I'm looking at it from the viewpoint of someone who, a few years back, received no notice of a pool closure at the resort. Try showing up with a child in tow to find the slide is closed for your whole stay. At least now Disney is notifying guests ahead of time. That is a huge step in the right direction.

......And offering an alternative pool with a slide for anyone affected. A pretty nice pool at that and one that typically doesn't allow hopping.

ok, playing devil's advocate here. let me preface this by saying we are not big fans of stormalong bay. I don't want to have to get to "rope drop" in the morning to get decent loungers, let alone a table. didn't care for the sand bottom. too hard to walk in the pool. and we prefer a big spread out pool you can really swim in, not a meandering pool.. didn't like that you have to leave the pool area and go sloshing out over the promenade, where people are walking in their dress clothes for dinner and I'm plodding across. self concious about my 60 year old body to use the slide.
that being said.. if we had been there when my now grown boys were tweens THEY would have LOVED it! and I would love to go there now with my grandkids. but I can't imagine trying to keep track of kids of varying ages.

i know, i know, there's a point here somewhere... often we go to the feature pool for just an hour or so between park trips. so "packing up" and walking from the villas to SAB can take half the time you have available. and if we are planning on spending an entire day, or afternoon at the pool.. well.. we like to be able to run up to the room to grab something. ergo, I can empathize with those who feel slighted when the feature pool at their reserved resort is closed. to some it's a plus.. use SAB!!! yay!!!! not to us. to us SAB is a pain in the butt.

but I do understand the point of ownership vs. "guests" we rent points from friends.. but even though we don't personally own, that puts us in the category of "ownership" we are "guests" of our friends... NOT Disney. and the entire point of compensation coming out of the pockets of the owners.

It seems this has been the only angle this thread has looked at. what about cash guests staying at the Boardwalk Inn? I wonder if there would be dif. compensation for them, as they truly are Disney guests, not owners. and if anyones opinions would change.

it appears the luna pool will be open in early May when we arrive. if not, we will just deal with it.. I LOVE the Inn pool .. so peaceful! (but I'm guessing it won't be with the luna pool closed. I also loved the villas pool. last trip I had a "pet " duck. she kept coming around by me (no, I didn't feed her.) but I started singing to her. she plopped down , turned the head around and dozed.. when I stopped singing, she poked her head up and looked around.. like.. HEY! till I started singing again.. then she settled down. the next day.. darned if she didn't come back walk right up to me (ok maybe it was a dif. duck, humor me) as soon as I started singing, she plopped down again for a snooze, inches from ,my lounger.

I digress (ya think?) but those 2 nice quiet pools won't be so quiet with luna pool closed. I know emergencies can occur, but generally I think people should have a choice whether to book at a resort with a feature pool closed.

I would be more upset right now if I were booked at beach club. and had twice the people at "pool rope drop" to fight with (race, not fight ;) )for a lounger or table.

I'm more concerned now that we might get a room with an unusable balcony, due to the outdoor refurbishments. a balcony is really important to us. and therein lies the rub. to some people the balcony is important. not to others. to some, the feature pool is important.. not to others. to some SAB is not a compensation, but a plus. not to others.
but being in the bar and restaurant business my entire adult life, I understand, stuff happens. would I try for some other compensation? well personally I wouldn't, because it's not MYpoints I'm staying on. but if it were my points? not sure. I'[m not an owner.. if I was staying on cash at BWI , I think I would nicely ask for a food voucher or something . but defintiely not take the attitude of "not leaving till I get it" doesn't hurt to ask.

Yeah that stinks! The quiet pools are very basic and blah, you paid for the use of a main pool on property. I would complain if I was in your situation. I would request reserved chairs at the days I planned to be at the Beach Club Pool.

The Inn Pool was still really peaceful when we were there with Luna Park closed.

Last time we were at the Boardwalk the pool was open, but the area around it was all torn up because of putting in fencing. The other area that was all torn up with the Inn gardens. If balconies are important to you - I live for the Inn Gardens and a book. I'll take coffee down there in the morning. I'll spend my afternoon down there while everyone rests. I can skip the balcony, but the gardens! However, everything needs to be refurbished, and some years I just won't luck out and get to spend my afternoons over there. And perhaps now that its been dug up and replanted, it won't be the same.

Here is my concern with "it won't hurt to ask." You won't get it - there is almost no chance that will happen - and part of the reason is this place. If you get it, you might tell us you got it. then the thousands of people who read the internet will start asking. It won't be one $20 food voucher - it will be thousands. For years, every time someone faces an issue. That is the real reason Disney doesn't delight people with surprises any longer - or with grand gestures of customer service. Therefore, you will ask, and be further disappointed that it didn't go your way. If you are the type of person that shakes that off easily, ask, hear no, and walk away. Personally, I'd rather spend my vacation sitting by the quiet pool on the Inn side than dealing with something like that where I won't get the resolution I seek anyway.

How exactly would they keep those chairs reserved? Have you ever stayed at the Beach Club? Good chairs are hard to come by, and no one would pay any attention to a reserved sign on a chair.
