ok, playing devil's advocate here. let me preface this by saying we are not big fans of stormalong bay. I don't want to have to get to "rope drop" in the morning to get decent loungers, let alone a table. didn't care for the sand bottom. too hard to walk in the pool. and we prefer a big spread out pool you can really swim in, not a meandering pool.. didn't like that you have to leave the pool area and go sloshing out over the promenade, where people are walking in their dress clothes for dinner and I'm plodding across. self concious about my 60 year old body to use the slide.
that being said.. if we had been there when my now grown boys were tweens THEY would have LOVED it! and I would love to go there now with my grandkids. but I can't imagine trying to keep track of kids of varying ages.
i know, i know, there's a point here somewhere... often we go to the feature pool for just an hour or so between park trips. so "packing up" and walking from the villas to SAB can take half the time you have available. and if we are planning on spending an entire day, or afternoon at the pool.. well.. we like to be able to run up to the room to grab something. ergo, I can empathize with those who feel slighted when the feature pool at their reserved resort is closed. to some it's a plus.. use SAB!!! yay!!!! not to us. to us SAB is a pain in the butt.
but I do understand the point of ownership vs. "guests" we rent points from friends.. but even though we don't personally own, that puts us in the category of "ownership" we are "guests" of our friends... NOT Disney. and the entire point of compensation coming out of the pockets of the owners.
It seems this has been the only angle this thread has looked at. what about cash guests staying at the Boardwalk Inn? I wonder if there would be dif. compensation for them, as they truly are Disney guests, not owners. and if anyones opinions would change.
it appears the luna pool will be open in early May when we arrive. if not, we will just deal with it.. I LOVE the Inn pool .. so peaceful! (but I'm guessing it won't be with the luna pool closed. I also loved the villas pool. last trip I had a "pet " duck. she kept coming around by me (no, I didn't feed her.) but I started singing to her. she plopped down , turned the head around and dozed.. when I stopped singing, she poked her head up and looked around.. like.. HEY! till I started singing again.. then she settled down. the next day.. darned if she didn't come back walk right up to me (ok maybe it was a dif. duck, humor me) as soon as I started singing, she plopped down again for a snooze, inches from ,my lounger.
I digress (ya think?) but those 2 nice quiet pools won't be so quiet with luna pool closed. I know emergencies can occur, but generally I think people should have a choice whether to book at a resort with a feature pool closed.
I would be more upset right now if I were booked at beach club. and had twice the people at "pool rope drop" to fight with (race, not fight

)for a lounger or table.
I'm more concerned now that we might get a room with an unusable balcony, due to the outdoor refurbishments. a balcony is really important to us. and therein lies the rub. to some people the balcony is important. not to others. to some, the feature pool is important.. not to others. to some SAB is not a compensation, but a plus. not to others.
but being in the bar and restaurant business my entire adult life, I understand, stuff happens. would I try for some other compensation? well personally I wouldn't, because it's not MYpoints I'm staying on. but if it were my points? not sure. I'[m not an owner.. if I was staying on cash at BWI , I think I would nicely ask for a food voucher or something . but defintiely not take the attitude of "not leaving till I get it" doesn't hurt to ask.
