Boardwalk or Yacht Club?

I loved to hear your opinions on these two resorts. We've never stayed at a deluxe, but may have a chance to switch our last 2 days of vacation in Jan. '03 to one of them. We have 2 boys 11yr. (going to be 12 when we're there) and a 8yr. old. We reallly enjoy the Epcot area and my husband is in the Disney Marathon which runs through that area.

Thanks for any input! :)

We have stayed at BC and Boardwalk both. Our boys were younger at BC, 6 and 8 and absolutely loved the pool and the resort.

We stayed at Boardwalk the summer it opened, 96 and they did not like the pool at all. They were 9 and 11 that summer.

We are going to YC this xmas and they are now 15 and 17 and looking forward to SAB again.

I felt the Boardwalk was beautiful but too busy for me. I like to visit there but enjoy a quieter resort. Our favorite is WL.

I would do the Beach Club, with the Yacht Club a close second. Both of them share the best pool on property. We founnd the service at the BoardWalk a little cool, but that isn't stopping us from staying there again (although if I had my choice it would be Beach!)

The Yacht Club is a little more formally decorated, and a little farther from Epcot.

Well I guess the question you need to ask yourself is this.....how far would you let your kids roam without you?

They are both beautiful resorts, but most of the boardwalks fun is on the boardwalk itself, like the arcade. So will you let them have a little more freedom or less? More? go for the boardwalk. Less? go for the yachtclub.

Boardwalk is great! We will be staying there for a second time this September. The atmosphere is wonderful- with the excitement of the Boardwalk and the all the restraunts, shops and games. You have easy accessibility to YC/BC/S&D.
While the pool at BWI is not as fun as YC/BC pool, the resort is much more alive and fun. Although- any of the 2 resorts would be a great pick! Enjoy planning.

I was in the same dilemna earlier this year trying to decide between the Boardwalk and YC. They are both equally beautiful resorts. I decided to go with the YC simply because of the view. The view across the lake with the Boardwalk all lit up at night is STUNNING! That's what won us over. Of course, if we had the boys coming with us, Stormalong bay would have been another big plus for the YC, but my husband and I probably won't use it at all.

Another vote for the YC! SAB is the best pool on property (IMHO), and your sons will love it!! It's a quick walk to MGM, Epcot, or the BW. The arcade is right next to Beaches and Cream and the pool, and as mentioned above, the YC won't be as busy as the BW. Also, the CM's at the YC go out of their way for you. You will love it!:):D:)

Though the YC/BC pool is lauded as the best, I prefer BW's pool but that is irrelevant because in Jan it is highly unlikely you are going to be in the pool much if at all. Both sets of resorts have the large advantage of best location on site, walking distance to Epcot and MGM. BW gives you the advantage of being right there for nightly BW activities. BW does not have a buffet restaurant but restaurants there are very good. BC (and thus YC) has a very good buffet in the Cape May Cafe. But as with any restaurants in that area you can easily walk from one resort to another. Personal view is that BW is by far the best resort on site (and I have stayed at all the deluxes other than AKL). However, YC and BC are also high on my list. Thus, I would say BW but either is fine. The obvious key here is that by the time all are done posting and you have read the posts you likely won't know which to choose because both will get high praises; so be prepared to flip a coin.

We just came back from the BWI and loved it. Two years ago we stayed at the YC/BC. The one big thing that the BWI has is plenty of places to eat until late at night. Even a pizza window. When we were at the BC there was only one place to grab a bite and it was not take out (beaches and cream)....There is an icecream parlor, a bakery and numerous restaurants on the BWI side of the BW. We enjoyed both pools. The BWI even had a community center near the pool with games like ping pong, foozeball, air hockey, nintendo 64 set up on 3 tvs, hockey, and a coloring area. This we went in when it started to rain when we were at the pool and it is all free..or should I say included in the room price...

I haven't stayed at either resort (yet). We are planning to stay at the YC in January as well. I just wanted to comment on drusba's comment about not swimming in January. We were at WDW last January and it was not only warm enough to swim, it was downright HOT! We spent one entire day at Typhoon Lagoon and swam every day but one for the entire trip (8 days). My kids never wore pants the entire trip - shorts only! I know the average temps are probably only in the 70's, but if you are coming from the north like us where there is lots of snow in January, then 70 is even warm enough to swim.

Thanks everyone for all your great replies! :) I've always leaned a little more toward the BW, but I knew when I asked this question I was setting myself up for a difficult decision. Both places sound wonderful! I know will be happy with either one. I still love to read more comments.

Thanks,
Kimbra :earsgirl:

My family stayed at BWI this year and really loved it. We plan to stay there again in 2004. We liked the pool area a lot, it is more self-contained than SAB so we found we could relax more and still watch the kids easily. Kids loved the slide and the lifeguard staff were really friendly (learned my kids names and used them all week!) We had wonderful interactions with all the staff members. Our room was just what we requested and we checked in 3 hours early! We ate at ESPN, Spoodles take out, Hot Dog cart, Luna pool bar, general store and bakery. We found the food to be very convenient. The evening atmosphere on the BW itself is so fun. We were there every evening enjoying something and our children loved watching and participating in many of the shows! Previously we had stayed at the Poly, we loved the closeness to MK but it was too quiet for us. We used the kid's club at BC, ate at Cape May and walked around the pool. It seems like a nice resort but in the end, all of us agreed we really liked the BWI.:D
