Okay I just called MS and we can stay 3 nights in Aug. and now I see they have three different pt levels per night depending on views. Are standard views really bad???? WHere have you all stayed and do you prefer a certain VIEW? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks so much. We are planning on three nights at Boardwalk and then 5 nights at our home resort SSR.

"bad" view is a relative thing. Most standard views at BWV overlook the entrance. That's the only type of room I've had there, and I've been fine with them. There's a lot of greenery around that area, and I think the entrance to BW is pretty nice myself! I don't think there is a "dumpster" view there, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

One possible "bad" view is the one we had at Christmas. We were right outside the elevators (which meant it was a short walk to the room), but were above the luggage loading area. It wasn't a problem for us, because we aren't in the room during the day (prime luggage storage/moving time). But if you have a young child taking naps, it could get noisy. If you ask for the end of the hall, it's not likely you'd be over that area.

One plus for standard views is that sometimes you can watch Illuminations from your balcony.

Standard views are the most desired. The view isn't bad (in fact, some of the preferred view rooms have arguably worse views) and the point structure makes them a bargain. If you can get this, and want to watch points, jump on it.

Boardwalk views are probably the second most desired. A lot of people think this is one of the best views at Disney. If you can spare the points, and one is available, consider jumping on that.

Standard Views and Boardwalk Views are often not available at seven months and go quickly if any are available once the seven month window opens up. They are booked already for next holiday season. Take your opportunity now.

For the same number of points as a Boardwalk view, the remaining 60% (20% BW View, 20% Standard) are preferred view. These generally overlook one of the pools or the Swan Dolphin canal, but unlike Standard and Boardwalk, there is no telling what you'll get.

Boardwalk views are the best in Disney IMHO.

When I book standard view, I request top floor, across from the bus stop. This gets you away from the valet area and in a good spot to watch the fireworks from Illuminations. Anytime I have requested that I got a good view.

We had two studios - 3053 and 3055 - preferred views, but they overlooked the Village Green, had HUGE balconies (maybe 3 times the size of the regular balconies) plus a partial boardwalk view. Couldn't have been any better!
