Boardwalk 1BR question ...

Just back from our wonderful vacation. But I have a question. This was our first time staying at the Boardwalk. OKW is our home resort. I'm just curious: how do people stand the kitchen with no light? I only cooked a couple times at night, but had to do it in the dark! It was terrible. I honestly couldn't believe that there was no light in the kitchen. I called the front desk & they sent up a Maintenance Man , & he laughed & said "bad engineering". I said I would like to request a different room with a light in the kitchen & he told me they are all that way. I had so looked forward to the BW, but because of the lighting, I will never want to stay there again. Certainly didn't ruin my vacation, but I was disappointed.

We just returned from a stay in 1BR at BWV. We had an overhead light in the kitchen and also one over the stove on the microwave. The lighting was fine. Sorry you had poor lighting in your kitchen. That would make cooking at night difficult.

to know since we were told none of the kitchens had lights. Maybe a letter to BW is in order. Thank you for letting me know.

p.s. We had great weather, didn't we? :)

I just went and looked at the pics I took of our 1 bdrm villa last time-we had an overhead light above the sink/bar area and I know we had a light under the microwave above the stove, so we had no problems.

Yes we did. It made the whole trip perfect. Don't know if I can last until Nov. I am going through major withdrawal!!

We had an overhead light and one over the stove - no issues here - room was #5095

thanks

There was a similar thread on poor lighting in OKW kitchens, which I noticed on our last trip and attributed to power-saving, fluorescent bulbs.

Maybe we should bring a lantern to BWV this spring.

Our Room # was 4123. It was a larger than normal 1 BR. It had more of a corner angle to it, if that makes any sense. There was no light fixture above the stove & no light fixture in the kitchen. The table off to the side had a light hanging low over it - we thought about trying to raise it up somehow to try to get the light to shine more towards the kitchen, but couldn't do it. LIve & learn I guess. I shouldn't have been so polite about it - but when I was told all the kitchens were just like that, I stupidly believed what I was told. I probably should have insisted on seeing another 1BR.

oh and another thing .... our room was a L-O-N-G way from the elevators!!

I stayed in 3123 in December, I loved the extra room. Now that you mention it, the kitchen was a little dark at night but I didn't notice. I go along with Pam and consider the stove a decoration ;) . I am staying there again next month with 3 others, we requested 3123 or 4123 for the extra room. We used the stairs across from the room for a quick exit to the parking lot or bus stop.

I've been in those rooms...I also love the extra space, but you're right about the poor lighting.

As for the elevator, the stairs are very handy there if you can do them, and that puts you pretty close to the bus stop and the MGM walkway...just trying to look on the bright side. Also - you should have had a nice view of Illuminations from there on that extended balcony. ;)

the stairs came in handy, however, going up them gave me a firm reminder that I need to get in shape  the kids loved how close we were to the quiet pool & the Community Hall; and Luna Park was close too. Also, my niece had her own nightly ritual of watching Illuminations from our balcony --- it was an added bonus that we could watch from there. That was a wonderful surprise. I just should have figured out that having no light meant no using the kitchen while on vacation!! ;)

Thank you for all your replies!

I also listened to Fantasmic & saw the fireworks at the end one night from the bedroom balcony.
