Blue Bayou Still worth it?

I know the Blue Bayou has recently changed their menu. i.e. no apps. or the cookie boat any longer.......

So, is it still worth it? If any of you have eaten there since the changes please give me your opinion.

The choices at Cafe Orleans look a little better. Of course the ambiance is NOT as great. But just wondering????

I have not been there since 08, but I decided then that it really wasn't worth it. Maybe just for dessert, but I don't think it's worth the hassle any longer, or the wait.

We go every year and love it. We do not always eat a meal sometimes just go for the dessert and a waterside table.

Personally, it's still worth it for me. I can't got to DLR and not eat at BB. I go every time, and always request and wait for a water-side table.

We loved Blue Bayou. The chicken was awesome and the potatoes were to die for. I thought it was worth it. We also love Cafe Orleans for the Pommes Frites and Monte Cristo.

Well let's see, we ate at BB...ummmm, I'm going to say 5 times last year. DDs bday, DBFs bday, Thanksgiving weekend, and 2 other random times, ya that's about right. For us it's definitely worth it. We love the ambiance, we love the food so yes, for us it's worth it. We never ordered appetizers anyway so that doesn't matter at all and while we did love the cookie boat we rarely had room left to order it. I wish they would bring it back, it was delish!!! but not having that does not make it a place we won't eat.

CO is good too, I had the ratatioulle last time, first time ever and I loved it!!

If it's worth it or not would, for me, depend on the situation.

To be sure, BB is alot more expensive than CO.

But...BB is all about the atmosphere, and, even though the food at CO is comparable, CO doesn't have a candle/lantern-lit dining room inside the POTC ride

So, to me at least, it's not "worth it" to eat at BB if it's not a celebration (ie: last time I ate there, it was to celebrate my BFF joining the Navy/leaving for boot camp; it was VERY worth it ). But then again, not everyone gets to go to Disneyland as much as I do (several trips a year), so just BEING in the Park may well be reason enough to eat at BB. Though there's a bigger selection of food at CO, and it costs alot less $ to eat there, it's just not as much of a "big deal" as a meal at Blue Bayou, IMO.

If you do choose Cafe' Orleans, be sure to try their gumbo, pommes frites, and Mickey shaped beignets!

We were there for Christmas and ate our required Blue Bayou meal. In years past we eat there twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. This year it was a single visit...because we did not think the restaurant was worth a second visit.

As a family we loved to get Calamari and/or shrimp coctail for an appetizer. We almost always had the prime rib. I adored the passion fruit creme brulee. My son looked forward to the cookie boat all year long. My husband and daughter loved the key lime pie.

Well, all of those items are gone...so this year there was no appetizer. I had the salmon for lunch, and while it was nice, I wasn't overly impressed. The only desserts were vanilla creme brulee and a chocolate cake, for which we all passed.

It just didn't seem like a special, look forward to it all year, wonderful vacation dinner. The atmosphere was still lovely, but I can ride Pirates with a granola bar and a camel back of ice water several times and manage to eat my lunch with Pirate's theming. The actual content of the meal matters to me.

So, I do understand that Disneyland is not going to be a living museum of never changing menus. On the other hand, if they are going to monkey with something I would like to see improvements rather than huge deletions and down grades.

I want appetizers to share, great prime rib, and desserts I enjoy. Without them, I won't be shelling out the kind of prices they charge.

We got food poisioning there once (BAD-like missed almost a full day to the bathroom)and have never gone back! We would rather spend the money at Goofy's!!!

Well, I don't now what "worth it" means to you, but we love the Blue Bayou. You cannot get that atmosphere anywhere. The Blue Bayou is a very unique dining environment. We enjoy the food and the selections, but that is not why we eat there or take friends there. We eat there for the surroundings. Is that worth it? Only a question you can answer.

I still love the atmosphere, especially if sitting right by the water. However, I don't go as much as I used to, because of the prices and treating myself to a prime rib was my big treat to myself food-wise. Without the prime rib, it's not as special, but it's still a good time with fine food.

LOVE the gumbo and beignets (especially that suace). The pommes frites were ok..kinda limp and dry though. I should restate. BB is a beautiful location and a must do at least once. The last time I ate there I got sick, so maybe I'm jaded Maybe on a trip with just DH and I I'll go again, as said, for dessert, or the yummy short ribs. I won't take a big group again. We got stuck by the back door twice, no ambience there, and it's a pretty cramped eating area, so just wasn't enjoyable. If I could get riverside for just DH and myself I'd love it.
PS..I am thinking they got rid of apps to get people in and out more quickly to turn those table over and depleted the dessert menu to cut down on those just coming in for dessert. This spoken from an ex restaurant manager point of view...

I was also thinking they got rid of apps so people wouldn't come in just for that. I haven't been in years, I just wish they would do something better with the menu.

We have always loved going to the Blue Bayou. Our first visit was on our honeymoon 12 years ago and we have been on almost every trip since. I have always ignored the bad reviews it has gotten online.

The last time we went (April 2009) we were very disapointed. We were so excited to take our 3 and 5 year old girls for their first visit to BB. I always order the Monte Cristo and my husband ordered the crab cakes. The food tasted like it had been siting for hours. It was dry, lukewarm, and tasteless.

We also ate at Cafe Orleans while were there and again had the Monte Cristo and my husband had salmon. The food was ten times better and almost half the price!! The ambiance wasn't the same though.

Next time we go we have decided we might go to BB for dessert but that is it, from now on I will get my Monte Crsito fix at Cafe Orleans.

Thanks for all of your input!! I think we'll skip the BB. Since the cookie boat is no longer, and the apps. are gone, it seems they don't put a lot into the "eating" experience along with the ambiance. We LOVED, LOVED Cafe Orleans last time, so we'll do that instead! Thanks for all of the advice!! Love the DIS!!!

It' s not worth it for us. Nothing on the kids menu my kids will eat. Cookie Boat is gone and I hate the way they do the check in and wait forever to be seating crammed in that little room.

I think you're making the right decision to skip it. We were there in late December and made our first visit to BB. I was most disappointed. Hope you have a great experience at CO.

That is a bummer. I have never been to BB and I want to go way bad but now it seems silly.

I have eaten at Cafe Orleans and it was delicious! Most of their seating is outside though so I was a bit chilly sitting out there in December for dinner... but the Monte Cristo was to die for. I heard the Monte Cristo at CO is the same at BB... which makes me do something like this....
