BLT Worries

Elbowglitter,
I would wait to see the resort yourself before you listen to negative opinions on the boards. I think you will be very impressed with BLT. Enjoy your trip.:cool1::banana:

Only you can decide if a resort is right for you. Each has something different to offer and each has positives and negatives.

I recommend to anyone who is going to buy, take the time to research the DVC program and the different resorts to determine if the program makes sense for you and your family and which resort will make you the happiest.

Buying isn't a final transaction. If you really don't care for a resort, you can sell and buy where you really want to own.

We own at BLT but we've only stayed there once. Love it!!! The Top of the World lounge is great.

If you like the contemporary, you will like BLT - it's as simple as that. I personally like it a whole lot - right up there with AKL, which is really saying something for me!

Big purchases like this always have people second guessing. We own at OKW and love the place but are staying for the second time this coming Oct. at BLT. As others have mentioned the location just can't be beat. It may not be our cup of tea as owners but it is a very nice DVC resort and I can see how people would love the place. The one gripe I had was the lack of locks on the bathroom doors. When it was just us , no problems but with this next trip and a party of 10, small kids included. It would be nice to be able to lock these doors. Other than that, we had no issues at all with the place...smjj

We stayed at BLT our first DVC stay and while I did not like the set up with the Kitchenette, and the "bathroom sink", I loved the decor, the views and the 5 min walk to the fireworks. We of course only had a studio, because there is only 2 of us and we like to save on points to book more stays. :rotfl2:

We had a MK view on the 8th floor(i think it was second from the top just can't remember if there were 9 or 10 floors), and it was amazing. The pool and hot tub were great. It was nice to sit in or by the pool and look at Bay lake. Just so peaceful. No Worries .:thumbsup2

Check out resale prices...if you have ever to sell, BLT will garner the highest price unless maybe GF or Poly DVC arise :rolleyes1

Another very happy BLT owner here. I wouldn't trade it and, in fact, would buy more points if I could!

I also bought it unseen then shortly after closing, stayed in a 2-BR BLT villa. I loved it. It felt "magical", being so close to the MK. And regardless of which room you stayed in, there were so many fireworks viewing options from BLT and the Contemporary. It was so lovely walking the air walk from the CR to BLT, nice breeze, view of marina, etc.

The room itself was wonderful. Housekeeping came daily as we were staying on cash. They did a great job. I really have no complaints, other than some questionable view categories.

I bought at BLT sight unseen a few months ago on the recommendation of a friend. And now that I'm reading all these forums, I'm worried I made a huge mistake! It seems like so many people are unhappy as BLT owners, and it's made my excitement over being a DVC member fade quite a bit.

Right now, I've got a tentative trip planned for BLT in February (room reserved, but that's it), but am using my points at SSR and BCV before the end of this year. Someone convince me that I made the right choice buying at BLT! I so want to love it!

I have toured BLT twice. It looks like a really nice place. I plan on staying there next year. Don't Worry and Welcome Home.

We just returned from 3 nights in a MK view studio on the 4th flour. We own at 6 other resorts and I am glad not at BLT. Our view was more Grand Floridian. We had to be out in the balcony leaning way over to the right to see the fireworks and the tv sound did not carry narrative very well. The bathroom door, sink situation is very poor. No real towel racks in the bathroom. The hinge on the cupboard above kitchen sink was damaged. There were marks on the furniture. On the outside fountain with the founders names on it many were corroded and hard to see only after one year. I believe DVC is making changes to the bathroom sink situation. My worry is the quality of the material used in the studios. We love many of the other DVC resorts, but are concerned with the quality of the construction at BLT.

what are the negatives you've seen posted?

Like others have said, negative posts tend to have more life.

BUt it's hard to respond when you day say what your issues are.

johno

We have stayed at BLT four times since it opened. Love it, love it, love it. I am an early riser, and watching the sun come up over bay lake is amazing. All our trips have been in a one bedroom so far, and they are super comfortable. I suggest you go over to the Disney Vacation Club planning thread and look at work2play's thread on BLT rooms and views. That is quite an education on what you can see from your windows/balcony, and is really useful in helping you choose where in the building to request a room. Have a great time, and welcome home!:stitch::eeyore:

We bought our first set of points at SSR, site unseen, and fell in love with the place after our first stay. Then in 2009 we bought points at BLT, site unseen, and just stayed there for the first time in September in a 2 bedroom standard view room. All I can say is WOW! We loved it. The room was so spacious and open and with the third bathroom, we couldn't have been happier. And for a standard view we were on the 2nd floor with a view of the MK. I mean how cool is it to wake up looking at Cinderella's castle every morning. And our oldest DD layed in her bed one night with the curtains open and watched the fireworks.

The only thing that we would have liked to have seen different was the pool area. We would have liked the pool to have been bigger. I mean looking at how big BLT is then compare the pool area to all those in the rooms, ummmmmmmmmmm, needs to be a little bigger. The slide was great and when the BLT pool was to packed we walked over to the pool at the Contemporary and had a nice relaxing time.

So, you will never know until you stay there. So be sure to go in with an open mind. I hope you love it as much as we do.

Don't worry about what you read in the forums. EACH resort has gone through a period of forum-bashing. I remember when BCV was "horrible," when SSR was "impossible." These things go in waves. Meanwhile, thousands of people stay in the out-of-favor resorts and love them. My advice is to stop putting off your trip to BLT with reservations elsewhere. Get in there and decide for your self what you think!

So true. I have learned on the boards that the people who like to complain and make a mountain out of a mole hill always find their way to boards likes these. We have had issues sure but to believe what you sometimes read on these boards the places should be condemned. For every one person who writes a complaint here, there are probably 100 who had a wonderful time or did not let the fact that a bulb was burned out spoil their trip...smjj

Megan,

Just remember to each his own.....

We bought at SSR sight unseen in 2003. When we first stayed in May 2004 (right as it opened), I think only Congress Park area and maybe one other spot was open. Heavy construction etc... We liked the resort, but obviously the construction (temporary of course) made it hard to imagine the end result. Now, we love the grounds, it is gorgeous. I think because of the understated theme, a lot of people find that it lacks something, but I like it that way. And knowing Saratoga (we live in Saratoga NY) - they did an excellent and subtle job of capturing a lot of Saratoga (art, and little things). It wont slap you in the face like AKV or VWL, but I love the understated feel of the place.

Moving forward, SSR is probably the DVC Resort that takes the biggest hits in posts on the forum.

But - for us, we have no regrets. We love SSR, but also have used the DVC membership to stay at other resorts (OKW, BWV, AKV) and have enjoyed each resort for what it has to offer.

BLT is a great location, and I am sure will be up to the standards you expect from WDW and DVC. Just remember you have other options - although you can always book at the 11 month window to ensure your vacation spot - you have the 7 month window which for us has always been successful to try the different resorts.

Our DD fell in love with AKV, so this will be our second trip there. We have not been to SSR since 2006, but that does not mean we dont like the resort, we think it is great, just looking to try the others.

I hope you like BLT, but remember, you have many other places open to you, I am sure it will work out fine. If you bought into DVC because you love WDW, you will be fine :)

We added on at Bay Lake the first day it was available for sale to DVC member sales. We are staying there for the first time in February 2011. I'm glad to see lots of positive comments on it!

We're in a one bedroom lake view, but are wait-listed for a MK view. Any comments on the Lake View?

we bought in at BLT after touring in Feb., this was our 2nd tour, the 1st was SSR a few years before. I had no intentions of buying (especially after touring and having the info) but I have to say I fell in love with AKV decor and BLT location which with the combo put me over the edge to buy. We did not buy at AKV but are staying there 1 night in Feb after our 6 night stay at BLT! Cannot wait to try both resorts, oh no wait I plan on trying them all!

I look at it this way:

BLT is all about location. It's part of the popular "monorail resorts" group. You pay for thought, not only in points/cost, but size. BLT is a bit smaller than the other resorts and is more "condo" style. But the trade-off is you're on the monorail, close to the MK and have easy access to numerous great resort restaurants without having to bus/drive/cab.

I liken it to living downtown or in the suburbs. I can get a bigger and cheaper home in the 'burbs but have to drive everywhere. Or, I can get a condo downtown that will be smaller, and probably more expensive, but will be right in the action. You'll be fine and will love it, I'm sure.

Oooooh I like the sound of that!! :cool2:

Yay, I'm excited :yay:
