BLT Oversold and we got bumped :-(

I don't recall if this has been mentioned...but could this be one of those simple (but nasty) goof-ups that has been happening? I've seen a few reports of someone booking X but suddenly finding out that it was changed to Y.

Having just recently spent 3 days with my mother in law and a bucket-load of doctors, playing a weird game of translation/telephone figuring out what on EARTH everyone was trying to say to each other, I'd say that the OP is hearing what she's hearing the owner say, and the owner is saying what she hears the DVC CM say, and the DVC CM is saying what s/he *understands* to be the case (and we all know that's not reliable...what if this is one of the "renting is illegal" CMs who hasn't gotten the retraining yet?)... Too many places for true and real information to get said wrong or heard wrong.

Given the number of reports lately where "MS told me I'm not allowed to rent my points", I wondered if this was another tactic to make people nervous about renting if renters will be the first to get bumped in an overbooking/room out of service situation.

A little JFK conspiracy theory going on here...:rotfl2:

But it did get me wondering, if they have to bump someone how do they decide? Do they make a conscious decision to inconvenience a non-member rather than a member, given a choice? Or, do they bump a member rather than a non-member so that they don't turn off a potential future prospect? Or, do they just pick someone at random?

I haven't seen anything in the past that suggests how they do it or even that they have a process at all. I know some of the situations suggested that home resort was at least part of the process. It doesn't appear to be date of reservation or who's staying and they don't consistently have the info for those renting. For the two AKV issues it appears they left it up to the resort management themselves and they did a very poor job.

IMO, it should be the same list as an appropriate unit assignment priority, unfortunately DVC hasn't ever been good in this area and have abandoned what formal process they had in place at one time. The appropriate order, IMO, is the following.

Home resort
DVC member non home resort
Cash Guest
Exchange
CM usage

All should be by date of reservation for tiebreakers and guests of a member should be treated the same as a member usage including renters. BTW, this is the EXACT process several other timeshares use, the only exception is that they subdivide them further related to some issues that don't apply to DVC likely multiple week stays and members who are exchanging in.

Interested in an update as well. I have a week stay in BLT coming up that I've been literally dreaming of since I was 10 years old (so 25 years now:laughing:). I would be livid if my reservation was changed to SSR (a resort that is hardly on par with the Contemporary).

I once had a BW ressie that was switched to BC. That didn't bother me, as the resorts are pretty comparable as far as amenities go. But to go from BLT to SSR would be a severe downgrade and an unacceptable substitution (sorry, not an SSR fan).

You're a year up on me; I've only been dreaming of staying a week at the Contemporary since I was 11. :cloud9: In my defense, that's when it opened. ;) And at BLT I'd have the only thing I ever thought the Contemporary lacked -- my own kitchen. :thumbsup2

I have never stayed at the Contemporary and try to spread my points out. Save some for another vacation. Although in August we are having a convention at the Contemporary and have a convention rate of $147.00 and for a little more the Poly. I will definatley be going for at least three or four nights and have book WLV for seven more nights. So I will have a chance to stay and enjoy instead of just eating at Chef Mickey's. :cool1:

Not sure if we will get it, but would be interested in hearing the outcome for sure. Subscribing!

Wish op would come back too! popcorn::
The lack of follow up makes one wonder what the real issue was. I wonder if someone paid them off in some way or threatened they'd lose their vacation if they continued as would be the case with an exchange.

Huh? You are DEFINITELY allows to rent your points, but there are new rules in place stating that you have to be the one to stay a certain percentage of the time. They basically don't want you buying into DVC and making a profit on it, but want you to enjoy vacations.

Wish OP would update bumping just for the off chance they decide to come back and share.

A friend of mine who is no longer a Disney castmember got a letter, as did many other CM's letting them know that they are NOT allowed to rent their points and if doing so, it is grounds for termination. This does not apply to those not employed by Disney, but there are those who are not allowed to rent.

My guess is that this is because they get a hefty discount on the points. But aside from limited cases like this, you are allowed to rent your points.

Cast Members are offered discounts and agree not to compete with Disney by renting their reservations. I believe they also agree to sell the contracts back to Disney.

The past discount was 15%. Last week they offered a new discount with 20% off for CM's.

Maybe they are trying to raise money to help fund the GF DVC. :goodvibes

This has been the case for a few years but has not always been the case. I doubt they could have enforced this for those who owned prior to those restrictions.

I think at one point it was 25% and then later, 25% for some and then 15% for others.

Not really sure about this info. My husband was a CM when we purchased our first contract in 2005. We got a CM discount then. We never signed any agreement stating this (either renting or selling). My husband has not been a CM since 2005 (note we bought in 1 month before his division closed). I've never rented as we have no problem using our points, but we certainly don't have any type of clause regarding selling our membership. We have added on 6 times since without the CM discount too. Now once we almost did not get a referral bonus. When I went to check on where it was, it was almost denied because they saw our first contract that showed a CM purchased it and are not allowed referral bonuses, but once my guide pointed out that we bought many contracts without a CM discount we had no problem getting it then.
