BLT Oversold and we got bumped :-(

Hopefully it wasn't a mistaken wait list for BLT and the owner only could get SSR. Since all waitlists are off seven days before the start and the OP just found out a week before her trip...

Can you just do a waitlist and still add the dining plan though?

Good point, I didn't think you could, you have to cancel the WL to add the DP. So if you have a reservation at one resort and WL at another you can't add the DP. I don't understand why but MS always says that.

I still don't see why it can't be exactly as the OP stated and her DVC member friend did make the BLT reservation and it's been cancelled for whatever reason. As to why the DP has been refunded I don't know, perhaps as part of the compensation for the move they'll get DP free? Hope the OP will let us know after the phone call today. But with the booking system down it might delay everything.

It's possible that the OP just doesn't understand the entire situation and the DVC Member knows the OP has a limited understanding. Sometimes you generalize things for nonmembers.

I'd be all kinds of upset and it seems a credit in points would be the appropriate response but because the OP is renting, I'm not sure what, if anything, Disney should do. This is tough. Any word from the OP?

My thought was the owner made the SSR two bedroom reservation and wait listed the 2 bedroom BLT (but what view??).

Did the OP rent the points from someone on the DIS Rent/Trade Board? This definitely sounds like the member (if he/she actually is one) messed up and isn't telling the OP the whole story.

A good theory, but how does the DP being credited back fit in? The member not paying his/her dues and the reservation being cancelled seems to fit more of the problems. Though I'm increasingly convinced the OP (and us by extension) aren't getting the full story. Sigh. Waiting for the OP to report back.

It's possible that the issue with the dining plan isn't related to the issue with the reservation.

:surfweb:

I must know how this story ends!! . . . and learn from it!!!

BLT is one of our home resorts and when I book there, it is because I want to stay there . . . that is why I bought there!!! I would be soooooo upset if this happened to me.

OP -- keep us posted with all of the details.

going a completely different direction - since BLT is definitely being rented by CRO as well as DVC - despite DVC saying it is not. (the reason why we did not get a break on the maintence fees)

so CRO could have easily oversold BLT and they need DVC to fix it - since it is owned by DVC not WDW.

of course could be completely wrong.

that just doesn't sound right either. so maybe everyone else is correct.

what was your view - standard, lake view or magic kingdom view (ok theme park view)?

BLT is definitely available through CRO, I don't know why DVC would say it's not. First, it's not soldout so DVC owns points that they rent through CRO. Plus when members tradeout rooms go to CRO. The only "break on maintenance fees" is when unreserved rooms are sent to CRO at 60 days or less, that is on the dues budget as "breakage income".

I'm subscribing cuz I have a two bedroom coming up and would be crushed if we ever got bumped since it will be DD 1st trip and prob my DA 1st and only trip.

When you book a dining plan through DVC can you use just anyones credit card? I didnt think you could. Why would the OP be using her CC to pay for the DP? Pure speculation on my part though.

Soooooo, the story goes that we are definitely at SSR in a 2BR Villa. Unsure of amount of compensation as DVC member is negotiating this (as mentioned I'm sure she's getting points back and converting to cash for us).
We were on an already booked reserv which member had and was going to cancel but we took this date (wasn't a date we originally wanted but took it due to it being a week that was reserved many months prior and were happy to get BLT since there or BCV were our choice). So, if all the member says is true (which I'm starting to doubt), then I can only hope for a fair amount of money back and to try to enjoy our stay as much as possible.
I've been sick over this for the last few days and can't do it anymore. However, until I get our new confirmation number and am able to view it online (and see the dining plan recharged on my cc), then I probably still won't sleep. Supposedly DVC computers were down today for a period of time which held up the return phone call until late afternoon??? My luck and nerves are wearing thin!!!
So much for saving some money by booking from someone I knew who is a DVC member but I've done this at least 5-6 times over the past 7-8 years and never had a problem with her so would have never thought this could happen...
Wish I could give you all more info but since I can't actually speak to DVC myself, I have to question if I'm getting all the facts which makes me feel very uneasy...:headache:
I'll give updates if I get any more news to keep you all posted. Thanks for the support!
