Blowing bubbles? yes or no

I also have developed a few allergies, all showing up after I gave birth - one new allergy for each new daughter! Maybe I'm allergic to children?
:lmao::lmao:
Then going to WDW for you would be like someone with a peanut allergy taking a tour of a peanut factory. (totally joking :goodvibes)

To the PP that posted that people with allergies should stay in a bubble - hopefully your children will not develop any allergies.
I agree, people that have never had to deal with it, sometimes don't understand, or care to understand, how hard it can be to deal with. We were already living with my in laws to help with my mil's health when this happened to my fil. Short of putting him in a bubble and him getting all of his nutrients from an IV, so he doesn't have to eat, there is no way to protect him against having an attack. We don't know if it's something he's eating, coming into contact through his skin (like lotions), or coming he's just smelling (like perfume).

Problem is, it goes both ways. Sometimes exposure does help along with going thru the shots an allergist administers. However, many allergies are not constant but caused by repeated exposure of common foods and inhaled allergens over time which increases sensitivity and can lead to a full blown life-threatening situation taking people by surprise.
Once your FIL finishes his round(s) of steriods they'll likely do an allergy panel, etc. Glad they caught the clots, can't imagine the odds that an allergic reaction would lead them to finding them, best wishes to him.:)
You are very right. This could just be a new allergy rearing it's ugly head. I hate to be glad for someone to have such a violent reaction like he did. If he hadn't he wouldn't have gone to the E.R. (or doctor for that matter) and found out about the blood clots. The mil had been on him for week to go to the doctor. She thought b/c of his symptoms he could have blood clots in his lungs. My mil had pulmonary embolisms last year and has been a nurse for many years. He is either off the steriods this week or next, so hopefully he can have the testing done within a month. For some reason I'm thinking they said that he had to be off of them for a couple of weeks to be able to do all the testing they want to do. There were some other tests, other than the allergy panel that they want to do.
It really is a horrible thing to go through . IMO the extremely insensitive and judgemental comments here are derived from ignorance. It's likely hard to grasp for many unless it happens directly to the them and their's or they're educated.
I totally agree. I was the same way before I had to deal with the allergies of children when I worked in day care. I just can't imagine having to deal with something like this with one of our DSs.

As a mom to an 18 year old who was allergic to most bubble solutions, and is now developing allergies to other things, I'd really appreciate those people who restrain themselves and keep the bubbles out of the queues.

If the CMs are blowing bubbles outside of the gift shops, I'm going to have to ask them to stop so we can get by without having to see if she is still allergic to bubbles.

The bubble blowing by CMs has been going on for awhile. I took my GD down there several years ago and was really irritated by a CM who without warning, pulled a bubble thingy out from behind him and blew a bunch of bubbles right on my GD, as we walked past him. It was one of those paddle thingies with alot of holes in it, like used to be popular, so it released alot of small bubbles all over her. Knowing she was allergic to the solution, she squealed, I yelled 'No', glared at him and informed him she was allergic to bubbles as I rushed her into the nearest restroom to try to wash them off. Afterwards I felt bad about my response, but it happened so quick it just surprised us and I reacted. Just a few minutes after entering the restroom a female CM came rushing in and asked if we were OK and said the other CM felt awful. I had relaxed by then, said I was sorry for snapping at him, and I knew it wasn't intentional. However, despite washing them off quickly she had already started developing whelps on her face, arms, and legs. Since I had washed her skin so quick, they actually looked worse than they felt. The other CM was waiting when we came out of the restroom and when he saw the red whelps on my GD, he looked like he was going to cry. He profusely apolgized and said he had never known anyone could be allergic to bubble solution. My little 8 y/o GD proceeded to educate him on her different allergies.:rotfl: Someone blowing bubbles out in the open where we can avoid them would not be a problem. Some idot blowing them in a crowded queu where we couldn't get away from them is just plain rude. If that CM had been blowing bubbles at other kids and we had seen him, we could have just walked a long way around him, but he waited until we were just a couple of feet from him and blew them directly at her. It happened so quick, there was no way to avoid them and there were just so many of them hitting her at once.

She went to a party several months ago and found out that even though she hadn't been exposed to bubble solution in years, that she is still allergic to it. Some kid at the party blew bubbles on her. She is 15 y/o now. She outgrew alot of her allergies, but not the bubble solution one. Of course she is still allergic to corn and corn starch. Cornstarch is one of the ingredients in bubble solution.

If you are sensitive to bubbles you should skip MVMCP because the "snow" on Main Street is made out of a bubbley type substance.

Come to think of it... does it "snow" at the Osbourne Lights Show?? Better not chance that either... just to be safe:thumbsup2

We do. Plus we skip the shows that have bubbles (Muppet 3D, Little Mermaid, etc). People with allergies try to avoid putting themselves in contact with things that cause their allergies. However, crowded line queues, some CM surprising a kid by pulling out a previously hidden bubble wand (or gun) then suddenly shooting a kid with it from just a few feet away, are situations that can't be avoided. After finding a good spot for a parade and waiting for an hour for it to start, I would be irritated if someone next to us suddenly started blowing bubbles. Why should we have to leave our spot? Open areas are fine for bubbles, since people who are allergic can avoid then, but any crowded area is not. There is a good chance they will land on someone who is allergic to the solution, hit someone's glasses, get in the their eyes, get on their camera lenses, and on their clothes. It's just rude to use them in a crowd.

I don't think anyone minds bubbles being blown out in the open, since those are easy enough to avoid. In a crowded situation where they can irritate or even endanger someone standing next to you is just rude. Two out of my seven grandkids are allergic to bubble solution, so apparently it's not that uncommon any more as an allergan.

Gosh I had no idea about all this bubble allergy stuff.

do they still blow bubbles at weddings when the bride and groom leave the church? that replaced rice. I forget why rice was outlawed.

Because it was harmful to birds.

The urban legend I heard is because it attracted birds, they ate it and then exploded when they drank water. :scared1:

In reality, I think it has to do with the clean-up. Those grains are itty-bitty and would take forever to get out of areas you cannot easily vacuum.

Yes, apparently the bird thing is a hoax, but once everyone went off rice it never came back as a tradition.

Way to resurrect a year-and-a-half-old zombie thread.

There was really no need to resurrect this thread since there is a more current one discussing the subject. I am closing this thread. :)
