BLOG: Rumors on discounts for 2011

They still haven't released AP rates. I guess they'll see how many rooms the General Public gobble up and then offer AP holders the scraps.

Curious to see if AP rates will be any better on the rooms. Wanting to book a room for the weekend Whoopi is doing the CP. (Dec 10)

This morning with the new codes I can get a value for $69. Doubt AP rate will be much lower.

Wow!
First they raise the price of the Dining Plan for 2011.
Then the "give it way"!
(Remember, nothing is really free!)

Since free dining doesn't do us much good, staying Deluxe, I think a good bounce back will trump this offer.

Well, I fell for it. I booked for our dates next September. I'm super excited b/c its going to be my parents first EVER trip to Disney World!!:banana:

I don't know about AP discounted rates for this year but December 2010 we paid for Pop $60,25 a night with the AP discount.

From an economics stand point Disney's pricing strategy is fascinating. They are having to go father and father out with the discounts to compensate for the trips they stole from the nearer periods. Combine this with the raising of ticket prices on everyone who enters, cheapening of merchandise, raising food prices and lower food quality, at some point I would think this catches up with them in a big way. That point may be here. It will be very interesting to see if they continue to fill rooms. popcorn::

Hah! Like a pyramid scheme. I like that analogy.

I wonder if the strategy is to just get to the opening of the expanded Fantasyland. The question is will even the majority of hard core fans be completely tapped out by then and will FLE be enough of a draw?

Frankly I think they'll be just fine. They seem to be moving off the "all princesses, all the time" angle of the fantasyland expansion, which is a good thing. I think they're just trying to keep the parks full until the economy improves.

On the merchandise side of things, I think things have actually ticked up recently. I've noticed more resort-exclusive merchandise, more ride-exclusive merchandise, and more specialized "retro" merchandise lately (e.g., retro EPCOT shirts, retro "orange bird" shirts, etc). People complain about the shirts being "thin" as an indicator of quality, but this is just the style of shirt that's popular now.
