My ds 5 saw Blizzard Beach on the Travel Channel, and wants to go. We will be staying April 18th thru 23th at POR. Are there many things he can ride here? It looks geared toward older kids, and adults. He watched the Disney vacation tape, and wants to ride all the big rides. For example: Splash Mountain, Tower of Terror, Space Mountain. He is 49 inches tall. He's tall for his age so I'm sure they will let him ride. I just don't want him to be scared out of his wits. Anyone else let there 5 year old ride the "big" rides? Suggestions would be great. Thanks!:sunny:

BB has a great kiddie area that he will love. As well you all could do the family raft ride and the 8 lane toboggan racers. Go you will find lots to do.

My 6 yr old ds (5 at the time) did almost everything that they had to offer. He didn't do the 2 biggest slides, but otherwise he loved everything. Your son is definately taller than he was at 5. If your not a confident swimmer you can get a life jacket for him (there is no charge you just leave your license or room key). We had bought him one of the wet suits that have pockets with foam in them that give a little support without being bulkie like a life jacket. It worked great for him, but he was a very good swimmer for only being 5.

You will probably just have to feel him out for how scared he seems to be for the bigger rides. I have a 6 year old that is a true daredevil and is dying to ride SM, TOT, etc. He is only 45 inches and will be devastated if he can't ride.

On the other hand, I have an almost 8 year old that I'm not sure will ride much of anything. They are always so different.

Others have told me what I told you...just see how he feels...maybe start out on the littler rides and work your way up.

As far as BB, I think he will have a great time!! I do suggest the life jackets if he does the areas you feel unsafe in. There is plenty to find to do. Plus, they are only open till 6pm.

Have a great trip!

Thanks for all your comments. I feel better about Blizzard Beach. He is a daredevil. Not much scares him. Except for bugs! We will plan on Blizzard Beach one day! The life jackets are a good idea. I think we will take your advice, and start on the little rides, and work our way up. Thanks! I can't wait until April 17th. It's taking forever to get here!:sunny:
