We're thinking of going to Blackpool for a few days next week- Having never been before, can anyone let us know how busy it is or what to expect? Is it person to person busy i.e very crowded? I understand its quite tacky, but I kinda of like the Seaside atmosphere! If it helps, Ive been to Brighton many times- we just feel like exploring somewhere different.

Any advice appreciated, TIA! :wave2:

Hi I went to Blackpool at the beginning of June for a concert at Winter Gardens (opera house) and it was mildly busy. I can imagine with the hot weather that the crowds have increased a little but it should still be bearable. It is VERY tacky....all the seaside shops with all of the typical hen and stag night goodies!

However there are some very decent attractions. We took a wander down the pier to the arcade and ate fish and chips on the way, such a typical seaside moment! There's also a huge indoor pool/water fun area (don't know how much it costs, but it looks a good one for kids) and the pleasure beach (£29 for a wristband for the whole day, or a minimum of £25 pp for individual ride tickets).

i can imagine that the pleasure beach is pretty busy this time of year. But there's some lovely ice cream places, and lots of seaside bars and cafes to get a refreshing drink.

The high street is at the north end and is generally not as busy (the south of the seafront and beach is the real seaside bit).

There are trams that run up and down the beach all day, I'm not sure how much they cost but its an awfully long walk from the very North (where the main rail station is) to the South (where the pleasure beach is), and they look quite good fun.

Are you staying for more than a day? Do you need any tips on hotels?? Travel?

HI,

Blackpool is quite busy this time of year but it can be great fun, loads of good rides the Zoo and the tower which has a good circus for kids. Mooky the clown is great. we used go quite alot when our boys were younger.the sealife centre is quite interesting and camalot is about 2o mins away is not a bad day out either . Hope you have a great time :thumbsup2

Hi!
I will never go again - certainly not with children.
Stayed in one of the supposedly nicer hotels at £42 a night - it was awful..food okay.
Blackpool seems to be stag/hen night heaven and it starts in the afternoon to very late.
The place is run down and dirty with "smut" everywhere you look - shop windows,t-shirts etc.
Very disappointing as used to go every year for 10 years as a child, but wont again now,
Lynn

Living in (or rather) near Blackpool, I can't imagine why anyone would want to go there. The place is downright horrible. I have to drive through it twice every day to get to and from work. Its become much busier in the last week (obviously school holidays has helped that), but as others have said, its just a place for drunken idiots and drug addicts now.

One thing I will say to anyone visiting......you CAN overtake the horse and carts on the road....nothing winds me up more on my way home than someone who sits behind the horses thinking they cant pass them because it will scare them or something ! The damn things should be banned anyway, they are treated really badly by their operators, and should be in field enjoying life, not on tarmac breathing car fumes all day.
Rant over.

I live 40 miles from Blackpool and have a certain fondness for the place as it was inevitably one of the few places our (car-less) parents could take us on holiday as kids. Yes, it is certainly tacky, has very little intrinsic charm and can be grubby and smelly at times.. but the Pleasure beach has one or three really decent rides, and, for the last three years I've taken the kids back in August for a (day only!) meet with friends from another Disney based site. If you're in good company, Blackpool's a laugh, but if I was seriously considering a few days somewhere I'd be up the road in Cumbria or saving for another Florida trip!;)

Mike :)
