Blackout cancelled my trip!

Am I the only person who could not get down to Florida due to the blackout?? I arrived at the Grand Rapids, MI airport (west MI) to fly to Detroit at 7 pm, and it was a mad house! Everything was canceled thru Friday am, and it ended up that the whole day was canceled, so I had to cancel my trip MS gave me all my points back into my regular account, not reservation status, so I am happy about that, but I really wanted that 4 day trip before school starts. So I drove home, and went to work!! Now, my trips are done till next spring so please shed a tear for me if you get to go this fall

Would they have let you fly to Chicago or something and then to Florida? Were they offering people a chance to reroute their flights?

Do you mean that flights out of GR were cancelled or your connecting flight in Detroit was cancelled? I didn't think GR lost their power-we almost drove to my parent's house there but our power went back on the next day.

Glad MS came through for you.

I'd be really disappointed. Perhaps you can creatively figure out how you can sneak in a quick trip before then. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Double hit, no trip and go back to work!! Maybe you can sneak in a long weekend in the fall. I try to travel out in the early morning before something goes wrong in the system.

I was just thinking the other day if anyone had to cancel their trip due to the blackout. It was nice for MS to give you back the pts. Did the airline do the same for your next trip?

We had our flight cancelled in Orlando 3 years ago due to weather. We spent hours waiting at the terminal and then waiting on the plane. Eventually we were told that all the flights were cancelled. The airline would not provide anything for us, and we ended up paying rack rate to stay at the Hyatt at MCO for the night. It was not fun!!!

Hopefully you can have a longer trip next time!!

I'm SO sorry to hear you had to cancel your trip. What a shame! But I am glad to hear that MS restored your points. Any hope of a fall trip on a long weekend?

The blackout was a total bummer. I decided to throw some things in a dufflebag, and drive to Indiana to wait it out at my parents' house. Just came back a few hours ago.

I guess one good thing about the blackout is that it gives me a new appreciation of all the things I take for granted, starting with electricity!

So sorry you were unable to go to WDW. I'm happy to hear that MS was willing to restore your points. That would've been terrible if they didn't! We won't be going back until next May so I can feel your pain. I will linger on these boards reading trip reports and wishing I was back there. I'm sure you will do the same too! Annmarie

Awww, Cru, I am so sorry to hear that you missed your trip, too! The up side is that you WILL be going again and MS was willing to work with you on this.

As to work, I know the feeling, I have to be back in my classroom this week and if it wasn't for my trip last week, I wouldn't be as refreshed and recharged and ready as I am now!
