Howdy. I was wondering about something, I'm going to do it anyway but I want to see if I'm going to be making a fashion faux-pas.

I was reading in my In Style magazine today that colored tights are going to be huge this fall and that black tights with black shoes is very in fashion. Well I have this black skirt I'm wearing tomorrow and I have a pair of black shoes and I thought it was still too hot to wear tights so I bought a pair anyway for later and I also got a pair of black pantyhose to wear tomorrow?

So what I was wondering, Is it fashionable to wear dark pantyhose in August?

Where are you going? By black tights do you mean opaque stockings? If they are sheer black hose than I think you would be okay, but unless it is cold where you are I would stay away from the opaque tights.

I just reread your post and you are asking about the pantyhose, (it's late, and I am easily confused). If they are sheer I think it is fine.

I'm going to work. I bought both sheer black hose and opaque tights.

No tights.....thigh highs, very sexy

I wear Crocs & Birkenstocks. I used to be in fashion. I would wait until after Labor Day.

You can't have it both ways.

I was raised with the "no white shoes before Memorial Day or after Labor Day" rule. The same holds true for black stockings.

We had a funeral 2 weeks ago. I had black stockings in my hand, then switched to the "natural beige" due to this rule.

But - in today's world - anything goes. I guess you have to go with what makes you comfortable.

:confused3

I would have to say no to the black. It's just too early.

I don't understand the labor day thing. Isn't that in about a week and a half? the weather is going to be the same then. I don't get it.

I would say no - not during the summer - a sheer tone to match your skin color would be best.
Jenny :)

As long as the stockings are sheer in nature and are not 'off black', you are just fine. Off black stockings should never be worn with black clothing or shoes. They are not a deep black and therefore appear worn and discolored. Off black should be worn with dark grey clothing and shoes.

I highly recommend Hanes Silk reflections in Jet Black. They are sheer, have a deep black color, a quality spandex, and hold up well. If you have an outlet mall by you, they should stock these in the Hanes Bali Playtex store. They are often 1/2 price of major retailers.

Black pantyhose will not give the same look as black tights. Opaque is in-- sheer is not. Pantyhose are always sheer. (I read the same InStyle article-- colored tights were big last fall too and I'm glad I can wear mine again!)

I don't think black hose are seasonally appropriate for August. I personally would never wear black hose, period, but that is another topic...

Bare (or if you have to wear hose-- nude colored) legs are much more appropriate for summer.

i bet i'm going to have to go back to the store. ARRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH.

Sorry for the dumb question but what exactly is the diff between opaque and sheer?

I don't get it either. I never heard that about black pantyhose. I don't think it is the color as much as the sheerness. I remember they used to make "summer pantyhose", they were lightweight and very sheer. Of course that was before every place had air conditioning. :rotfl:

I could be wrong but I think one of the ladies on The Today Show had black stockings on last week.

I have worn white shoes before Memorial Day, and I didn't get arrested, and no one stopped and pointed at me and laughed. Well, I didn't see them if they did. :teeth:

Hmmm maybe if someone on the Today Show had them on then it's o.k. Maybe I should just stop being OCD and go to bed. My office is super cold so I need something on my legs. But hopefully no one will point and laugh at me tomorrow.

It is not a dumb question! Sheer means you can see through it. The material is transparent, lighter, thinner, and snags more easily.

Opaque means material or fabric which cannot be seen through. You can't see skin through it. It is heavier, thicker, and less snag-prone. Think tights, not pantyhose.

Semi-opaque tends to veer into support-hose territory according to the good folks at InStyle.

This model is wearing opaque tights.

This model has bare legs but the look is the same as what sheer hose would do.

Thick, opaque colored or patterned tights are really big for fall. The thing now is to wear them under summer dresses and with open-toed platform summer sandals into the fall. At least, all the major fashion rags are saying that.

Well to each his own. Me I put something on I look in the mirror if it looks good to me and it is comfortable I wear it. If it looks great to me it doesn't always matter if it comfortable. I thought that labor day stuff was old news. Like don't go out without your socks on or you will catch a cold.:lmao:
