BL Summer Challenge 2009

Thursday Question of the Day

Can you change 1 thing today to help you on the road to being healthy? If so what is it?

I plan to get back to eating more veggies. I have been very lax in the last week or so about veggies. I have been getting in my fruits. I have been drinking a lot of tea without anything added to it. Twinnings makes a tea bag that you can brew it in cold water for iced tea. You don't have to brew and wait for it too cool. I really like them.

Have a great day. I will be back later to bring back the COW for next week.

This would be my answer also. I LOVE veggies, I have just been very lax about getting supplies back in the house since my weekend away, and my dinners have not included a veggie as I've been eating out and eating cheap and we all know where that leads! I have been eating some fruit, at least.

I'm going to look for that Twinnings cold brew tea...Thanks!

Good morning, losers!

Thanks for the review of Harry Potter, donac. I can't wait to see it this week-end.

bobnjenn0828, glad that you had a good vacation. Fort Wilderness sounds like fun.

Thursday Question of the Day

The one thing today that I can do to help me on the road to being healthy is faithfully journal all my food and activity on WW. I haven't been as good about that as I should and that is certainly why I have been stuck at the same weight for weeks now.

For those of you who are thinking about tea drinking in the warm weather, a study from the American Society of Nutrition released this year found that green tea consumption boosts weight loss -- so chug, chug, chug! It can't hurt and might help.

Have a great OP day all!

Stay consistent on eating and exercising.
Today will be a not so great day, since I didn't get up early enough, so am going out for lunch. But I can make it fit into my points, and come out okay for the week.
I finished off book 7 of Harry Potter last night, should have put it down and gone to sleep, but just kept going until 12:30 :scared1:

QOTD

I need to go to the gym and really put my all into it. I have been coasting my last few times working out...I need to up the intensity.

Sarah

Yay. Thank you for forgiving me..;) Yes the kitten is such a good kitten really. She still eats a lot. She is so high energy. I mix canned with some water and she eats that. Husband gives her canned chicken and tuna because he eats that stuff a lot in his sandwiches. She likes hamburger lol. I found a really good dry cat/kitten food (B&G before grain) to mix in with the costco food and I'm happy with that and the extra protein she get out of mom and dad. I found it at a little shop having it's grand opening this week close to a goodwill where I was looking for Hawaiian shirt and 80's jewelry. Um for work. I'm doing this service challenge and the theme is 80's--I've got one of my husbands old Huey Lewis concert shirts and I just needed some bangles to spiff it up. And Hawaiian days. I am so mad about that. We've had Hawaiian days at work for the 18 years I've worked there every year for about 2 weeks in the summer where you can wear Hawaiian clothes. Well last year we didn't have it so we all figured well, we're not doing it anymore so I gave most of my shirts to charities. Well-it's back this year. Hmph. Well I couldn't get rid of my favorite authentic blue hawaiian shirt so I still have that but needed new ones so went Goodwill hopping yesterday. Fun. Found my jewelry, a shirt and a new pair of work pants. And was very happy to find my pants getting looser throughout the day, plus a pair of 14's were too big which made me very happy lol. I had just washed the pants, and while they are still not falling off like they were, I feel confident I can continue the fight that is the last 10 pounds. I felt great thinking that all of my old Hawaiian shirts would have been way too big now anyway :goodvibes
Did some power walking at Costco, which means scooting through there as quickly as possible, up and down every aisle scouting for bargains. Anything endind in .97 is clearance at Costco for anyone who doesn't know that btw. Got some mushrooms that I cleaned and sliced up immediately and put in the food saver canister. Did the same for the strawberries today. That is my one thing I will do this week. Start organizing again. I really do want to have a garage sale. So I better get on it while we still have summer.

Tuesday's Question of the Day: What is your favorite exercise that you have done consistently over the last two years?
Walking, especially outdoors. Our neighborhood has lots of walking trails - granted, it's only really warm enough for me 6-7 months out of the year. :lmao: I'm not a cold weather person. My 3rd trimester of pregnancy I walked 30 minutes a day, 3-5 days a week. I really think that is why I never got to the "I'm huge, I'm uncomfortable & I don't want to move" phase, even though DD was born a week late.

Wed QOTD: HP fan?
Yes, DH and I are Harry Potter fans. We've read all the books (some 2-3x) and have seen all the movies, except the one that came out yesterday. We haven't gotten into podcasts or fan sites, but I definitely love love LOVE the books.

Thurs QOTD: Healthy change today?
Higher intensity work out. I haven't been pushing myself lately. Also want to start adding snacks back in. I cut out snacks during the day because I've been watching my cals and have gotten really busy at work. I read an article in Real Simple about healthy snacking and I think I need to do a little more of that.

My downfall this week has been a shipment of free ice cream we got yesterday at work. It was so yummy and I stayed about on my cals for the day, so I suppose I can excuse it. :upsidedow

Well, out of guilt I decided to post some kitten pics so you could all see what I've been dealing with here..(lol)

Sometime in the first week we got her :

50sjayne - it seems like you are really enjoying the kitten :)

Does anybody have any suggestions for crockpot recipes?
Last night, I finally opened up the crockpot I bought in January. I attempted to make BBQ pulled pork for the first time, and will find out tonight if its any good. I figured out that it'll be 8pts for 2 buns with the pork for supper tonight. I didn't have enough BBQ sauce so I used half BBQ and half tomato soup, with some onion garlic soup mix, and it smelled delicious when it was cooking last night.

Lipton chicken.

1 lb frozen chicken breast
1 packet lipton onion soup mix
1 can cream of chicken soup 98% ff
2/3 container ff sour cream

Put it all in crock pot and cook for 5 plus hours - serve over pasta

Yummy and fairly healthy!

Sarah

I am a big fan of the crockpot. I've got a boneless turkey breast in there right now. It's one of those seasoned ones my meat mgr. marked down to $1.49 a lb. What I would suggest is just google whatever you want to cook and put crockpot recipe in and you'll find lots of stuff. You'll eventually just get the feel for it.

Ds2 is getting ready for his first apartment and wants to learn how to use the crockpot for some meals. He did a great low calorie one today.

Chicken Breasts(boneless and skinless)
1 package of italian salad dressing (the dry one)
1 cup chicken broth or water.

Put into crockpot and cook for 8 hours.

It came out very moist. I could see it with a barbque rub and then shred, add barbque sauce and make pull chicken sandwiches.

My new laptop is giving me fits ever since I tried to install a new program on it. It may need to be looked at.

We only had a couple of people complete the last few COW's so I am going to start over again with some easy tasks to get more people involved with them

Congrats to Lisa and Shannon for being the only ones who sent me scores for the last COW

COW 7

THis week's COW starts on Friday 7/17/09 and will run until midnight Thursday 7/23/09. It will be an easy COW since we are all just getting started.

YOu get 1 point for each day you follow the COW

This week will start easy

Drink 8 glasses of water (1 point for each day)
Eat 2 servings of veggies (1 point for each day)
East 2 pieces of fruit (1 point for each day)

On Friday send me

XX days drinking water
XX days eating 2 serving of veggies
XX days eating 2 pieces of fruit.

Thanks and enjoy the COW

Do you do not have to do the entire COW. You can do bits and pieces of it that work into your plan. It is just there to motivate you and to help you think about developing new habits. THis will be a progressive thing. As the weeks go on I will be adding to these new habits. For next week you might want to find or get a pedometer, it might come in handy.

HAve fun with this.

Ahh Jayne - the kittie are so cute :)

DD17 and I just got done with our 4.22 mile walk. Walking every night like this is so time consuming.

Falling behind again -

Wednesdays QOTD - Yes, we are HP fans. My DH loves to read those books aloud and does different voices for each caracter, with appropriate dialect. At least as far as I can tell. I'm not convinced that the books on tape version is better than Andrew's!

We've seen all the movies but the most recent.

Thursday Question of the Day

Can you change 1 thing today to help you on the road to being healthy? If so what is it?

I'm sorry to say, I'm doing the best I can and today was one of those schlep through days. I'm drinking only water, milk and decaf green tea for the rest of the month, though.

Susan, your little kitty is such a cutie! Bless her little kitty heart and bless your heart for taking such good care of her. She might not have made it if it wasn't for you. :cat:

MelanieC, you are really getting in the walking this week. I sense a superstar by your name soon when your hard work pays off. Maybe the place where you bought your shoes has some kind of insert for them to cushion your toes if the clipping thing doesn't work. I gimped around with plantar fasciitis last year way longer than I should have an it was a relatively easy fix with orthotics. An 18 day WDW is a pretty good reward for all that hard work! :cool1:

donac, thanks so much for doing the COW. I really enjoy it, even if I don't always follow it as faithfully as I should. It really has helped me to develop healthier habits in 2009. The other area that it has helped is to help me really just slow down from the rat race, and do what needs to be done to take care of myself as well as others. These are the healthy habits that will carry us for a lifetime and I thank you! :flower3: I hope that your computer problem is easily fixed.

princessbride6205, if the ice cream was yummy and fit in the calories I think it was just a way to enjoy yourself today and still stay on plan. Good for you! :thumbsup2

Have a great night everyone. Don't forget to PM your weigh in to LuvBaloo tomorrow. We are into our final few weeks of this challenge so it is time to pour it on and get a big jump on things.

Thursday Question of the Day

Can you change 1 thing today to help you on the road to being healthy? If so what is it?

Today--hmmm what did I do today??:confused3 Oh- DD got smacked in the head by our Bernse Mtn Dog when I was going to take the dog outside & we went to the ER-- (that whole Natasha Richardson things got me scared!) she's good though--like I thought--but better to be on the safe side....back to the question:laughing:

I didn't eat dinner with the rest of my family--I had cereal (cheerios & kashi) every once in a while that's ok...tomorrow it will be more fruit-that's what I can do!

Hi BL Losers here is the results of my weigh-in for this week well it looks like i am well on my way to reaching my Goal of weighing between 175-180 this week I lost 2 pounds I now weigh 181 pounds.
