BL Summer Challenge 2009

Monday Question of the Day

What is your favorite ride in Epcot?

My favorite ride in Epcot is Soarin'. I love the sights, sounds and smells of the ride!

I'm trying something new today (as I'm home waiting for the TM repair person, can you tell I'm anxious?!) -- I'm having orange in my citrus water. I've been doing lemon/lime, and today I have orange/lemon. It's a little sweeter and I like it, but now I'm starting to worry if I unknowingly added a bunch of calories. We don't squeeze the fruit, we just cut it and place it in the water...

Monday Question of the Day

What is your favorite ride in Epcot?

Soarin' would probably be my favorite in Epcot too.

We had a fun and busy weekend...eating was fine until last night but back on track today. We are getting some much needed rain this morning, even heard a few cracks of thunder.

Several things on the to-do list today so just a quick check-in.

Have a great day everyone!!

Monday Question of the Day

What is your favorite ride in Epcot?

I'm going to echo everybody else so far and say Soarin is my favorite ride at Epcot -- especially in the top row. That feeling of freedom is awesome.

I hope everybody had a good weekend.

Good morning, losers! :goodvibes

Sounds like everyone had a good week-end.

It is cool and rainy here today, too. High is going to be 61 :scared1: but it will be 90 by Friday.

maznorm, hope that you get to feeling better soon. Does your doctor say you can get reinfected?

corinnak, your comments are good ones about paying attention to labels. I am good about looking for fats but need to do better with other ingredients.

maria, I don't think adding a slice of fruit to your water will add many calories. You are adding a little bit of vitamins, too, and flavor is important, too. :thumbsup2 Hope your TM gets fixed soon.

I am paying the price for having a bit too much fun this week-end with the birthday cake and alcohol. So I am dusting off my pants and getting a move on again -- it is a whole new week!

Monday Question of the Day

What is your favorite ride in Epcot?

I'm bucking the trend here to say Spaceship Earth. I love Spaceship Earth, even the new and improved version, I love the music and riding around in the sphere. (It is a sphere, right, donac?) It is also a ride that is unique to EPCOT and I can ride Soarin' at DL. Soarin' is in the top 5 though. ;)

Have a great OP day, losers!

Morning Loosers! I had a great get-away weekend in Prescott, though we didn't sleep too well (I should have brought my own pillow!).

I left town in such a hurry I forgot to weigh in Friday morning, but PM'd Shannon Sunday to just put me down as a maintain. Happy to report this morning (for my WW weigh-in) that the weekend caused no damage and I have, in fact, maintained the previous week's number. :thumbsup2 Though I ordered whatever I wanted I found that I never ate all of it. Often left behind a good portion of bread/potatoes. We had fruit and nuts and pretzels at the cabin, so it was nice having those less damaging snack options. We also picked up some Dilly Bars from DQ to have instead of the more dangerous restaurant desserts.

Have a good week everyone....I'll be focusing on MORE WALKING...to get in training for WDW in eight weeks!.

.

Monday Question of the Day

What is your favorite ride in Epcot?

I'd have to say Soarin!! The smell's are so cool!

All this walking that I'm doing is hurting my two index toe nails. I believe my toes are destined to turn black like they did when I was training and doing the 1/2 marathons. So I'm either going to have to keep this up to hopefully lose some extra pounds by Disney but have ugly toe nails - was planning on a nice manicure for the trip -already had to cut my toe nails super short to hopefully help with the hurting and possible turning black.

Or quit and save my nails - Why can't we ever win :)

Saturday's Question of the Day What tool in the kitchen helps you the most in the kitchen? The more you cook at home the less you eat out and the better the food will be for you.

The BBQ because then DH wants to cook. This year he's been willing to try new veggies done on the bbq.

Sunday Question of the Day Have you tried a new healthy food lately?

yup, added spaghetti squash to list of foods we like grilled on the BBQ :goodvibes

Monday Question of the Day

What is your favorite ride in Epcot?

I actually like Ellen energy one, and then spaceship earth is second. :goodvibes

I had a great weekend, and stayed within my points ( I did use some flex points up, but earned a bunch of activity points). We went to a different lake for kayaking this weekend. It wasn't windy this time, so it was much easier, but I could still feel all my muscles after 2.5hrs in the boat. Afterward, I had a quick swim in the lake, and it was so cool and refreshing.

Happy Belated Birthday to Lisa! Hope you enjoyed your weekend!

Happy Early Birthday to Melanie! Hope you enjoy your day tomorrow!

Sending out a friendly reminder for weigh ins. There's still a few missing from last week, so if you've just forgotten, please send them in :goodvibes

If I have time after playing Pandemic with DH and DD, I'll get the results done tonight, otherwise it'll be tomorrow night :goodvibes

Back on track after over a week off plan (a sort of staycation).
My proud fitness moment this weekend is that I can do monkey bars - and several times in a row. I tried, like, 2 months ago when we took DD to the playground and couldn't do it at all. I tried again this weekend because work asked me to. Crazy, huh? I work in children's entertainment and we want to see if one of our costume characters can do monkey bars - guess who is the guinea pig for trying it out? Moi!

QOTD: Fave Epcot ride?
Soarin is awesome, but I also really enjoy the boat ride thru The Land.

QOTD: Tried new foods lately?
We tried multigrain Popchips this weekend. They were pretty good - kind of a cross between a rice cake and a baked potato chip. I recently started eating Clif bars as a lunch meal replacement. I know it's not a perfect lunch, and I don't eat them everyday, but work gets crazy in the summer, so I don't have much time to eat. The Clif bars actually taste good (I don't like most protein or snack bars), and they have the right amount of cals, fat, protein & fiber. I just need to make sure I get in some fresh produce along with them.
I would like to try parsnips (got some good recipes) and those Arnold sandwich things.

QOTD: Fave Epcot ride?

I'm going to give a shout out to the ever popular Maelstrom, though I do love the new Spaceship Earth as well. However, props to Maelstrom for the backwards waterfall, frontwards waterfall, Polar Bear and Troll theme.

The thing I love best about the New Spaceship Earth, though, is the fun photographs my family always takes - we make crazy faces and then the stories of the future are a laugh riot, I tell you. NOT in the spirit of EPCOT , I suppose, but lots and lots of fun!

Sorry about the complain-fest regarding the sandwich thins - I can live without them no problem, it is just frustrating when that happens. Especially after I've gotten excited and bought something. I need to be better about reading the labels while I'm IN the store!

Good evening friends! Sorry I haven't been around much lately. Summer is busy and the computers are giving us trouble. I just had a few minutes to catch up with things here.

So sorry to hear about the Splenda in the Sandwich Thins. I LOVE those things! But I must admit that I read the calories, fat, and fiber and nothing else. It never occurred to me that there might be artificial sweetener in them. :sad2:
I will probably continue to eat them occasionally myself, but I won't give them to the kids anymore. I tried to eliminate most Splenda (and aspartame, etc) from my diet about 18 months ago and I only have one holdout left that I can't seem to give up (but I have dropped from 7 servings per week to about 4-5).

It seems like I forgot to PM Shannon AGAIN this week with my weight. Chalk it up to my mind being like a sieve! I will send it on its way tonight... but have no fear, I am FAR from being the BL! I gained 2.4..... but let me quickly explain our extended July 4th "eat-a-thon".

We arrived on the Cape about late morning on Friday. The eating challenge began immediately! I did pack a bag of "parachute" foods to help me out while I was there, but it wasn't enough. I ate my high fiber instant oatmeal and my usual hot drink (with added fiber) every morning. That was a big help. And I ate a green salad with some lean protein (with the salad dressing that I brought along) for lunch every day. I had lots of fresh fruit. I stuck with drinking lots of seltzer and didn't imbibe except for one glass of champagne.

I had decided that dinner would be my SPLURGE meal most days. But sadly, a few times, that splurge began with the afternoon snacks. And DSIL considers a full plate of meatballs and stuffed shells an APPETIZER! (Yes, that is TRULY what we had for appetizers on July 4.) I did indulge in some steak tips (just a few ounces), potato salad (very lightly dressed with mayo... ate about 1/2 C) and 1 1/2 corn on the cob (VERY lightly buttered but so yummy). I also filled in around the edges with baked fish (freshly caught sea bass), brown rice salad (with black beans), and lots of green salad. So it wasn't all bad. Actually, I only had three real big meals.... two dinners (as mentioned above) and one late lunch of fried scallops, sweet potato fries, and some onion rings (a splurge that I have been planning for a few weeks!). We were there from Friday until Tuesday evening, so it was a very extended weekend.

I guess I should focus on what I did right every day.... I kept at least two of my three meals well within plan EVERY DAY. I exercised EVERY DAY I was there (sometimes more than 60 minutes). I skipped dessert most meals. I didn't drink any alcohol (except for the champagne). I brought along healthy foods to keep me on plan and I didn't ignore them when I was faced with LOTS of delicious fattening foods. I drank lots of water/seltzer EVERY DAY. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY... I got RIGHT BACK on program as soon as we returned home!! :cool1:

So overall I am well pleased with how I handled a very difficult extended eating event. Hopefully the 2.4 I gained during that time will disappear quickly.

Sorry to ramble on and on... Thanks for reading. I hope to catch up with the QOTD later on................P

QOTD: I would have to say Spaceship Earth-- last time when we were down it was closed for refurbishment :headache: but can't wait for this time!

Today was not a good day-- I swear I hold water like a retension basin!! My weight went up-- and I didn't work out as long as I should have--but just did crunches:woohoo: try harder tomorrow!

Happy Early Birthday to Melanie! Hope you enjoy your day tomorrow!

Thank you! I can't believe I'll be 40 -YIKES! Oh and my present was a vitamix blender - I got it a few weeks ago so I've been playing with it - It's so much fun to make yummy creations and I've been using it a lot.

I've been eating a lot more raw fruits and veggies -trying to increase my raw food consumption because I was seriously lacking in that department. My body really seems to respond well when I do and I tell you the salads I've been making for lunch take me longer than an hour to eat and I haven't been able to finish them all, lol. So much chewing going on.

No lunch walking today - it was too hot and I was a little late coming in so I didn't go out to compensate. I did get my 4 mile walk in tonight, so I had around 420 calories burned :)

Just a quick hello. With my son going to camp, I drop him off on my way to work, and miss my morning computer time like I had when he takes the bus to school. The next 2 weeks, his camp is a few towns over, and he'll take the bus from here, so I'll have a little morning time again.

I'm doing ok. Fair on the eating, and exercise. I'm ok with that right now. My realistic goal for the rest of this challenge, is to get down to where I was when we started, and as fall comes, really work on losing again.

QOtd sunday- the only new food I can think of is the special k protein bars-they're 3 points, and the peanut butter ones are awesome, but they are kind of expensive.

qotd monday- soaring is my favorite ride, but my son absolutely loved spaceship earth and we rode is about 4 times last trip.

:bday: Melanie!!

Have a great day everyone.

Good Tuesday Morning everyone. It is absolutely beautiful here in jersey this morning. The weather has been so nice here that I am waiting for the other shoe to drop. SInce I can't swim I can't believe the weather has been so nice here in the northeast.

Yesterday's QOTD I love Soaring and Spaceship Earth

Tuesday's Question of the Day

What is your favorite exercise that you have done consistently over the last two years?

I have to say that I love yoga/pilates (for me there is a very fine line) and walking

Not a lot to do today. I think Dh and ds2 are going to go mow a lawn and I have to stay here and wait for the phones we ordered for ds's. We thought they would get here yesterday but they didn't. Someone has to be here to sign for them and since ds1 is working I guess that is me.

HAve a great day everyone.

Good morning, losers! :cool1:

A great big :bday:party: to MelanieC today. I hope that you have a wonderful birthday!

MelanieC, you are doing great with the exercise this week. Have you tried mixing up the shoes you are wearing to help your toes? Foot problems really put a damper on everything that you do. There might be some orthotics or inserts that would cushion your toes available. You deserve to have a pedicure after all your hard work!

corinnak, I loved your Spaceship Earth picture. I miss the old music in the tunnel on Spaceship Earth but am getting used to the cartoon version.

pjlla, sounds like you stayed on track for the most part and are right back OP. I think that is the most important thing, just hopping right back on the wagon when life happens. Before I would use that as an excuse to start again in a month or two. :rotfl:

princessbride6205, way to go on the monkey bars! I couldn't do the monkey bars even when I was 12! That is one of my fitness goals to some day be able to do a chin up . . . I have a long way to go on that one. ;)

mikamah, a big  to you. I think that your goal for the rest of the challenge is very realistic and just what you need right now.

What is your favorite exercise that you have done consistently over the last two years?

Well, I have to confess I have not exercised consistently for two years. That is a big part of my problem and how I ended up here. Since I started WISH in 2009, my consistent exercise has been walking or using exercise DVDs like The Shred or Leslie Sansone. This is my number one area of emphasis for the rest of this challenge. I have to get the activity habit nailed down to get to my goal for the end of the year. And I will!

For example, today I will be doing mega house cleaning as we have another round of guests coming this week-end. DS is staying home from his summer program today due to recovering from a cold. Since he still had a fever yesterday he needs another day on the couch. Once I get my cleaning done, I will join him and we will watch some movies, with healthy fat free popcorn!

Have a great day losers!

Happy Birthday to you; Happy Birthday to you; Happy Birthday dear MelanieC; Happy Birthday to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

What is your favorite exercise that you have done consistently over the last two years?

I wish I could say that I had done an exercise consistently over the last two years. If I could, I wouldn't be in the position that I am in today. I do know that, when I go to the gym or exercise on a regular basis, my weight is more under control.

Yesterday's QOTD I love Soaring and Spaceship Earth

Tuesday's Question of the Day

I enjoy lifting weights and walking. I've done walking the most consistently, but I've been a lazy slug the past year because of pain in my muscle/arm on my right side. Once I start lifting the pain comes back. I really need to have my doctor send me to a PT to work on it. My BIL who is a PT a few hours from me says he thinks it's what is called muscle imbalance. It causes pain in certain muscles becuase some muscles are stronger than others. I would have never thought of that, but when I did some reading on shoulder muscle imbalance it actually talks about rotator pain which is the main area I have problems. My arm has actually gotten so weak with some exercises that some days I can't do 1 push up - yet when I rest it I can do 30, makes no sense. Then after the day after I do 30 I can't do 1 again. It's as if the muscle is so weak it can't even push without excruciating weakened pain. It's only on my right side so it's a very strange feeling. It's also kept me from lifting weights for almost a year and a half.

Thanks for the Birthday Wishes! Someone brought me some Dark Chocolate pretzels (one of my favorites) and my breakfast was a green smoothie (I've made a decision no more green smoothies or at least no more with celery - blech) so it wasn't many calories. Now I've had over 400 calories worth, lol! I've put them away - but also entered my lunch and dinner calories and I'll end up with 1348 in calories because everything is pretty low in calories - so I feel good that I had a treat on my birthday yet I'll be within my calorie range. I've told my family no cake - I'll have plenty of desserts in Disney and we can celebrate there!
