Bizarre Smoking Locations

Big non-smoker here. Like that they have smoking sections, but some placement is odd.

The Dole Whip area is also the area for parents who's kids are old enough to climb the swiss family treehouse for the 12,000 time.

A bad placement is by the exit of the big thunder mountain railroad. There's no place to sit smoke free and wait for family. .

As a smoker.....I am THRILLED that smokers have DSA (and agree with everything you are saying) having gone to WDW since the early 80's I remember the horror of seeing a cigarette in someones hand at the level of a childs face :scared1:

:thumbsup2 I'm glad for the same reason. I still have a scar on my left arm from some lady not paying attention in the crowds. I was 7 and I just remember my dad being SO angry. The woman didn't really seem to notice or care :(

Can't really think of any bad spots, but I do have three great ones that keep you away from the masses!!!! I do really feel bad when I'm inconveniencing others with my smoking so I try to find the most out of the way locations.

1. AK - already mentioned by a PP but the area behind Tusker House...unless you were looking for the DSA you would never end up back there, there is actually really good scenery that you would miss if you didn't go back there, there is lots of shade, and its right by the Dawa bar!

2. POFQ - outside of building 7, there is a courtyard with a fountain that is a DSA. The area is beautiful and it was always very quiet and peaceful, especially first thing in the AM.

3. EPCOT - there is a little area near Universe of Energy and Mission Space, its a little sunken in area with benches, and off the pathway of normal travelers. I've found it to be very quiet and out of the way.

There is one place that I was asked not to smoke by a CM that confused me. It was outside of the turnstiles of Hollywood Studios, out past the area where they have the large billboard on the right side about 100 yards before the entrance. I was confused because I was not actually in the park....but I guess once on Disney property, you follow Disney rules lol

Correct me if I am wrong but DSA were created for safety not convenience of non-smokers. Smoking in the park is dangerous because of possibility burn someone and possibility of fire. Also less garbage to clean. Moreover, DSA are in open air areas, meaning smoke and smell flies away pretty fast. With all of the above, why it even bothers anyone, how about strong parfume or sweat, bus smell and so on. There are plenty of smells around.

Then I guess you should spend some time with me so you can see that even outside I can have an asthma attack.

Yes, you can even be 10 or more feet away. Sorry, but until you have had that kind of experience-you can't understand.

My mom smokes. I don't think she truly understood what it is like not to be able to breath. I think when she was choking on a piece of steak a few years ago - she kind of got it. Thankfully, I was there to give her the Heimlech manuver (chest thrust). Now she knows she needs to check the direction of the wind and make sure I am far away before lighting up.

Yes, I can understand, I am a RN, and if your attacks are so bad you should talk to your doctor. There are more triggers then just smoke, like those I mentioned before (parfume, bus smell and many others). You cannot avoid any of them, so just be prepared. I am saying this with good intentions, not to argue.

My asthma is only triggered by smoke or me breathing in spray-deoderant, perfume, etc but it would have to be sprayed near me. Not someone walking by with perfume.

I have had two different doctors-neither said I need to do anything differently. My last doctor has moved out of town and I will eventually see the new doctor that took over. I will check and see if anything else can be done. I would like to be able to go to hockey games again-but I just won't take the risk of another asthma attack.
