Biscuit's Grand Adventure 2 - Adventures in Opposites *TR NOW ACTIVE!

You're on property, you're on property!! :dance3: :yay: :dance3:

So cool, G.B.!! Can't wait to hear what else you come up with. :thumbsup2

FP+... as a local, I've just been rolling along with its evolution, learning as I go and making changes in how we do things as needed. I CANNOT imagine trying to plan an entire trip as an out-of-towner with this hot mess in place! :headache: from what I've seen so far in my WDW forays, staying onsite really is a requirement at this point for anyone hoping to ride the headliners. If the goal was to put more heads in beds, mission accomplished, Mouse.

HOORAY for the Wilderness Lodge! Such an amazing place - we rarely stay there, but visit it often; it's that good. You are correct: one night is not enough. Keep recalculating... ;):thumbsup2

I tried to talk our graduate into staying at WL but he wanted a more "beach" feel so we are at the Caribbean Beach much to my disappointment. I can't wait to hear all about your experience.
Caribbean Beach has always fascinated me. It was on my "plan" more than once over the years.

I too do the "Disney math" and figure out what I can do on our budget. I would love to stay at the BC or YC again, but I just can't get the numbers to add up right to allow that. :guilty: DH often reminds me...we are barely in the room while we are there. We tend to be park commando's. I as still trying to find a way to add a night on one end of our trip to visit Harry's world, (blastfamy I know) but I would like to do it one time and stay off site that night.
Well, we might just be a bit blasphemous ourselves...

It's definitely changing the park experience. I won't know for sure how until I'm there, but WOWZA is it gonna be different.

I am insanely excited. Disney Fuzzy Math Update coming next...

My how things have changed since last we spoke.

In my previous update, I had added a night on property at the beginning of our off-site stay. This afforded me 2 days of EMH, and 2 days of FP+ bookings.

I was happy with that. I felt good about it. Life was even nifty, as I am occasionally inclined to muse.

And then I got an email.

It was my afore mention lawyer friend who now expressed concern that a one night stay, while sounding good on paper, would lend itself to frustration when those operations commenced.

For countless hours I sat and pondered that one night stay. I slid it bouncing haphazard about my brain as if it were bowling ball rambling around a hockey rink. What time we would arrive? What time we would have to check out? What we would be doing the first day? What would be doing the second day? Where would we eat? How much of the resort we would experience? How much of the resort we would NOT experience? I sat and watched the variables enact a multitude of possibilities, and none ended to my satisfaction.
In the end, I was forced to admit that the advice was sound and that I would need to add a second night to make the stay worthwhile or abandon the idea altogether.

The only way to work in another night, to my thinking, was to add it at the beginning of the trip. So add it I did.

Our new itinerary had us arriving Saturday, enjoying us some resort time, hitting the parks on Sunday, then checking out on Monday. I was again happy with that and remained hopeful that a discount code would arrive to help with the expenditures.

As the original reservation stood, I was paying the rack rate of $360, plus taxes for a total of $810. I was happy to be on site. I was happy to be at the Lodge. I was happy to have some time to get to enjoy the place. I was not fully thrilled with the cost, but was resigned to do it either way, sacrificing some table dining to achieve it. (Killing out 2 table service ADR’s and leaving us with 3 total.)

Then came the discounts earlier this week.

I called Disney Travel Co again and found, much to my joy, that there was indeed a discount for our dates. They did not have any standard view rooms available but they did have a woods view room and I rebooked at $252 per night which brought my total after tax price tag to $567.

This was FANTASTIC. I was beyond thrilled to not only have a booking onsite, in a deluxe resort for the first two nights, but also a price that was not nearly as insane. I congratulated myself on my good fortune and as far as I was concerned the matter was wholly settled.

And then I got en email.

Same friend, different topic.

This time, it contained a link to a thread on the Discount Codes and Rates section of the Resort Board, and an encouragement to check it out.

So check it out I did.

And that’s when the grand and glorious Disney Fuzzy Math kicked in.

Here is the skinny.

Orbitz is offering the 30% discount as well. HOWEVER, they also have a discount code (“discover” if you are interested) which gives you an additional 20% off of the discounted rate.

What does all of this mean?

It means Bubba booked 3 nights, that’s what it means.

Orbitz DID have standard view rooms available which it offered up for $240. With the discount coded added, the dropped the price to $192.64 per night. ($675.45 total with taxes and fees for three nights.)

For the STINKING WILDERNESS LODGE!

So in Disney Fuzzy Math, I was originally going spend $810 for two nights on site. It was already in the books. It was already budgeted. Therefore, it made absolute sense to me to spend $675.45 for three. I am spending $135 less, and I am getting one night more.

AND one more EMH.

BLISS!

Now this is not without some inconvenience.

First, when booking through Orbitz, you cannot add your kids at the time of booking or you will be charged extra. (Orbitz treats every guest as an adult regardless of age, so the Disney surcharge for more than 2 adults per room kicks in.) Instead, you book as 2 adults then call and have Orbitz add them to the reservation.

Next, your ADR’s in My Disney Experience, though linked to your Credit Card, are also linked to your resort reservation. If you just go and outright cancel it, you will lose the ADR’s you have. (A couple of folks on the thread experienced this.) I spoke with a Disney Travel rep and she confirmed this for me and told me how to remedy this situation.

First, you need to have BOTH reservations linked into My Disney Experience. After about 30 min, you can use the Resort Reservation Code from Orbitz (which is NOT the Orbitz locator code, but is further down in the email) to pull the reservation up in MDE. Once you have it in, you will have to update the names of everyone on the reservation.

Then, once that is done, you will need to call Disney Dining and have them re-associate your ADR’s with the new reservation ID.

You will then need to cancel your original reservation. (I am well within the refund window.) Disney will refund it within 10 days and then the credit card has an additional 30 days to post it to your account. (Depending on when your statement closes, it may take up to 2 billing cycles to see it…I explained it further on the discount thread if you need those details.)

Once that reservation is gone, you will need to go in and re-customize your Magic Bands. (And if you had FP+ reservations, which at this point I do not, you would have to re-do them as well.)

At the end of the day, I’m willing to do the grunt work to save the cash and add a night. Being a room only reservation, it was not as burdensome as it might have been with a package deal.

One note – Orbitz bookings do not qualify you for the Dining Plan so if that is part of your “must have” column, this will not work for you.

I have also changed our park ticket slightly.

I added Sat as a park day.

The plan is this – Arrive mid-morning, enjoy the pool a bit, then head to Epcot to use FP+ for some headliners, stroll World Showcase a bit and catch Illuminations.

I am so happy, I just farted out half liter of Pixie Dust.

Well, that about sums this installment up. Hope life is treating you all grandly and that you have a great weekend!

Oh, and lest I be accused of not sharing, here is the link to the post on the Discounts board.

I kid you NOT... I was just about to tell you about Orbitz when I saw your update! I stalk Orbitz and Travelocity regularly because in recent years, they've been able to beat even AP rates with their special codes. I am completely, totally jazzed for the Biscuit Clan! WL is awesome... WL at a really, really good discount is pure awesomeness. :thumbsup2

Funny thing, too: a couple days ago, I secretly booked the WL as a surprise for my son this summer - he's been begging to stay there again, and this will be a short trip with no WDW parks, so a fun resort makes sense. Yep, using the Orbitz deal. Plus some cash back through Ebates. And using some Orbucks from a previous Orbitz reservation. Totally working the Fuzzy Disney Math!

That's awesome GB -- 3 nights at the Wilderness Lodge. And at the rate you're going, you'll be up to a week in no time. ;) :teacher:

:cool1: Now that is working it!!!!

Great Job and Awesome Deal!!!!! :dance3:

Isn't the Orbitz deal great!?! I almost stopped reading your post when I saw the price you were paying for the first two nights at WL, so that I could go check Orbitz for the cost to tell you!! I'm glad I read the rest of the post. Yay! Three nights at WL, your family is going to love it.

I too found the Orbitz deal this week and rebooked our first two nights through Orbitz, for a savings. Then I switched our last night from the YC to the WL, so that we could at least have one night to go back and visit it. Orbitz actually had a Poly room for only $30 more that the WL so I ask my kids if they wanted to go back to the WL for one night or go to a new resort... WITH A MONORAIL, and they both resoundingly said the WL.

Are you purchasing tickets through Orbitz as well? I know about a month ago there was a fantastic deal through Orbitz where they were offering 20% back through Ebates and they had a ticket deal on their site (5 day ticket for the price of a 3), then you can always upgrade it to however many days you need at the gate. It isn't 20% back right now (6.5%), but since you have a little while before you leave, it might come back.

I am late to the party but very excited to be reading another GB adventure!!!
Gotta love Disney fuzzy math, Good going on the 3 nights at WL.
Looking forward to the rest of the story
Nell
PS going to go back and reread the orginal adventure.

Wow I'm impressed. Three nights on property at a fabulous resort. I can't wait to read the report.

So, I JUST started reading your PTR, but I wanted to say that cheer is AWESOME! So many people don't realize how hard it is to be a cheerleader, but those stunts and routines take a TON of practice. I can't tell you how many times I hit the mat because the pyramid didn't go right or the basket toss wasn't executed properly. One year at cheer camp, a girl fell and broke her neck! People have tried to argue with me about Cheerleading being a real sport, but I can tell you from my years of experience (many, MANY years ago. lol) that it is! I hope your oldest enjoys her time cheering!

And I hope you guys have a fabulous trip! ...now I'm going to go back to reading the thread. lol

I am so happy to have found your PTR! I loved reading your previous TR and now I can catch you right from the beginning!!

I guess I had in the back of my head somewhere that Orbitz sold Disney hotels, but never really thought to check. Now I know!

The Orbucks are going towards the room on our way home. (The hotel on the way down was paid for out of the points I earned staying in hotels this Cheer / Gymnastics season.)

LOL. I am DEFINITELY holding tight at 3 nights. :rolleyes1

It was an awesome deal. I gave the skinny to my BIL and they have changed their plans as well. We are now all staying at WL. So that’ll be right & mighty nifty. I didn't try to persuade them, just gave them pros and cons of both. No really. I mean it. Quit looking at me like that. Okay, I MAY have mentioned bigger rooms, the pool slide, the hot tubs, boat transportation, double sinks, lobby music, inside entrances, refrigerators, covered walkway to the buses, and a lobby fountain. But I mean ULTIMATELY, I didn't try to influence them in the slightest. I even mentioned the joy of the Everything Pop and the Pop Century Theming. And the single sinks. And the tiny rooms. And the outdoor. And walking to the room in the sun...and rain. And really, I HAD to mention the outdoor entrances and noise levels JUST so they could make an educated decision.

Congrats! :woohoo: That is AWESOME! I was also looking at AKL which was like $3 a night cheaper, but First Lady Biscuit was so enamored with WL that I really wanted to make that our first Deluxe experience.

I had not planned to, but I will keep that in mind. I was going to order via Undercover Tourist which saves a little but not a whole lot.

Thanks! AND Congrats on your upcoming stay at the Polynesian! That’ll be a hoot I’m sure! Let me know if you do a TR.

I can’t wait to experience it!

I could write a book on all the things I DIDN’T know about cheer. And yes they do have to some insane conditioning to get through those routines.
And I hope you guys have a fabulous trip! ...now I'm going to go back to reading the thread. lol
Thanks!
I am so happy to have found your PTR! I loved reading your previous TR and now I can catch you right from the beginning!!
Howdy and :welcome: Glad you made it aboard! You’ll find us rough, but you’ll find us ready.

Just popping found your PTR and thought I'd pop in to say :wave2:!

Also, I wanted to give your wife a shout-out from another Minnesotan!! Hey der, you betcha!

But seriously, we don't talk like that. Welllll, most of us don't....wellllll, some of us don't....wellllll, a few of us don't....maybe not the "you betcha" part but perhaps the long "o" sound in Minnes-oh-ta and c-ow-ch. Or ruf (roof) or "Oh ya". Maybe.

Not like Texans and their "hey, y'alls" and the "howdy, pardners". ;)

But seriously, it must be a little bit of a culture shock for either you or your wife when traveling between those two very different areas!

Howdy and :welcome: The one that I had the hardest time adaption to was "Go with". I instinctively say the missing pronoun. I just can't leave that one hanging. My in law's are always cracking up over "a'int" and "I tell you what".

Ahhhhh! Yes! Another Great Biscuit trip report! My year is made! :)
Howdy and :welcome: Glad you stopped by!

:hourglass I have a lot to live up to to fill an entire year! :rotfl2:
