Hi! My ds will be 13:scared1: the end of Feb! We would like to do something nice to surprise him! He is really a great kid, loves sports, and is a great baseball player! We are thinking about surprising him with a weekend trip (his B'day is on a Sat.) We maybe will pick him up early from school on Fri and are thinking about a trip to Gatlinburg, TN (about 4 hours away), or Charleston, SC (also about 4 hours away), or Myrtle Beach (about 3 1/2 hours away), or Washington, DC (about 6 hours away)! Would love help deciding on which one! Would also love any ideas for surprising him once destination is decided! Would also love help choosing a special treat/attraction once there! (somewhat budget oriented)! Thanks for any Help.....:woohoo:

I don't know if Cooperstown, NY is too far for you:

This link is for the National Baseball Hall of Fame. (I have no idea where Cooperstown is other than it's "upstate" NY)

I'm not familiar with any of the destinations you listed other than DC. I've never been there, but the Smithsonian might be a nice attraction. I plan on taking my DD there when she's 13 to see the White House, the National Zoo, the Smithsonian, etc. I want to make a 4 or 5 day trip out of it.

I think Cooperstown would be way to far and take up 2 days of their weekend in the car.

What about taking him skiing/snowboarding. If he doesn't know how you can arrange a weekend of beginner classes for him.

I love the Cooperstown idea, but also wonder if it is to much driving for a weekend trip? I also like the skiing idea! We have never been, but ds likes to snowboard when we get snow (not very often)! Just wondering where to go??

My Dad drives to Myrtle Beach to golf every year from Albany NY and it takes him 15 hours to get there. Cooperstown is about an hour West of Albany.

If you have a destination in mind, you can google ski resorts for that area. I'm sorry I really don't know much about where you are to help with specifics.

I know it's a bit further but Spring training starts around that time maybe you could drive down to Florida to see his favorite MLB team in spring training.
