::MickeyMo We will be celebrating our dd 17th birthday onboard the Magic in october. Her birthday actually is two weeks after we sail. Does anybody know if we will be able to let them know our intentions, because I understand that when celebrating on board they make it very special. I'm just hoping it doesn't have to be the ACTUAL day. We just want her to have a blast and she'll be back in school on her birthday. Any experiences??

You should call DCL...or have your TA call for you...and have them note on your reservation that your DD will be celebrating a birthday on the cruise. Tell them what night you want to celebrate. Double check with your server the first night to make sure they are aware of it. Our DS received his cake on the first night with no problem, just as we had requested.

Thanks for the info. I did talk to our travel agent today and she said she will send me a brochure about the birthday packages they offer. Did you get anything like that for your son? Was the cake complimentary? I know last year the girl across the hall from us had a birthday and her room host really went all out with decorations and stuffed animals and towel animals. I don't know if they bought a package or if it was just done by dcl. So many questions. I like things to be just right and it's hard when the planning is out of my hands!! I guess I'll just have to wait on the brochure and see what they offer.

You can also decorate yourself.. by picking up things prior to your cruise.. from a Party store..(happy birthday sign, streamers..etc,..) hide the decorations from your daughter.. and when shes not around decorate your stateroom / outside cabin door with fun Birthday decorations... I'm sure whatever you decide your DD.. will love what you have done...:D

::MickeyMo I called DCL and ordered the birthday pkg for my Granddaughter, it was $30.The cabin will be decorated prior to our coming on board, and it includes a cake. The order #1169::MinnieMo

The chef who was doing the cake decorating display had been told of our 29th Wedding Anniv that day, and proceeded to decorate a beautiful large cake for me and DH, with name, date, etc. at the presentation. He does 2 or 3 cakes during the display, so may be worth asking. It was a lovely surprise for me:and you can ask for the cake to be brought out at dinner that evening.Just an idea. Nat:Pinkbounc

If the cabin was decorated....then I would bet they bought a Birthday package. DCL is great...but I do not think they decorate cabins on a whim....your room steward will, depending on his/her skill and desire to please, will make something special with a towel (granted they know of the birthday) We have celebrated both anniversaries and birthdays onboard and have always gotten a complimentary cake at dinner.....but beware.....they bring the cake out after you have already had dessert so we were way to full to have cake!!!

Here is a link to the complimentary anniversary cake and birthday cake....

Our 2 kids (5 and 8) were 2 weeks away from their birthdays when we cruised in March, and the servers were more than happy to do the birthday cake, singing, etc. at dinner on night. Our kids opted not to do it, though - I think the 8yo thought it would be embarrassing - not sure why though - she usually loves stuff like that.

The cake at dinner is no charge as far as I know.

While we were on the Magic last week, there were several birthdays and anniversaries (one at our table). The anniversary cake they brought to the other couple at our table was huge! They brought it out before they even asked if any of us wanted a dessert off the menu. We all chose the cake and it was delicious.

One warning.......... I did see several serving teams that were making the kids stand up on their chair while they sang Happy Birthday. Those kids did NOT look happy!!

The dinnertime cakes for b'days and anniversaries are tasty and nicely done; we had one of each on our cruise a month ago. There was no charge for them, and each was plenty big enough for everyone at our table of 7 to have a piece. In the past, I think b'day kids got a special pin, but I haven't seen anything about that lately.

We will be celebrating two birthdays on our cruise in Novemeber.
Both of us have the same birthday. We will have a lot of cake!!
;)

yes I will probably buy some decorations of my own. I think we want to celebrate on formal night. Is that usually the 2nd night? I cant remember. Anyway, I'm sure she'll have a blast. I would like to make a door sign and I know there is a thread around here somewhere with lots of information about that too..

MJ Thanks for the links on the cakes that you guys had. It's Shaylee's birthday we will be celebrating. Remember us from Chandler AZ?? We've never heard from Brian. Hope all is well.

We just got back from the Wonder on 4/29 & at every seating there were at least 6 people celebrating a Birthday. A number of waiters clap for you & sing Happy Birthday & they bring a cake to you. I am not sure what arrangements you need to do before hand but, you could mention it to you Head Server. He didn't do much for you us so asking him to do something like this the night you want to celebrate it would see how quick he moves so he earns the tip that you give him.
