Its not a sin as far as I am concerned...what IS though is people that keep having these kids and then needing welfare to support them!!

I don't think its a sin either but if it were a sin, it'd be the least of the sins I've committed. lol

I'm on BC pills right now and have a tubal scheduled for Dec. so, no, I don't think it's a sin.

Before we moved, I was taking the kids to a great playgroup and about half of the members of the playgroup were active Catholics. (I was raised Catholic myself, but don't attend Mass much.) At any rate, during our usual playgroup meeting one day, we got on the subject of birth control. Despite the Church's views/teachings, every Catholic in our group was either using pills or had had a tubal/husband had a vasectomy. The only person anyone in our group gave a hard time was the one woman who said she mentioned using birth control as one of her sins during confessional and had to do a penance each time. Several other members teased her for actually telling the priest during confession -- no one else considered it a real sin and, therefore, weren't willing/able to confess it!

As for "Family Planning" contraception, I have several cousins conceived using that method of birth control.

Of course they're all using birth control, either permanent or temporary or they'd all have 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 kids like the "good Catholics" of the olden days.

We have to remember that not only did many people 30-50 years ago think birth control was a "sin", it was also not available legally in this country...not even to married people!

I voted No.

ITA with this! Too many people bring unwanted children into the world. :(

I'd hate to think of all the little "Canes Fans" that would be roaming the earth if me or my past female partners hadn't stepped in to block those field goal attempts.... :rolleyes1

I don't think pregnancy prevention is. There are some BC methods that are "post conspection" but before you would know if you were in fact pregnant. I am not personally comfortable with them myself and won't use them. But I don't know about a sin. (not abortion.)

I am talking about the Roman Catholic Church (I only capitalized the whole word ROMAN due to a while back post---persaonl type thing). But, I am guessing you're probably going to refer to the RCC stance on artificial birth control. However, other denominations/religions have restrictions on birth control as well, so I just wonder why the RCC is always brought up.

Why? Because the RCC has been very vocal on birth control and abortion, perhaps more so than other denominations The RCC is the old and very powerful. Other denominations don't have a whole city-state (Vatican City) devoted to their faiths. Other denominations don't have Popes. (the Pope is a head of state, a powerful figure). So this is why the RCC gets so much attention.

My idiot SIL is about to have her 2nd baby in less than a year. She can barely take care of the one she has. They wrack up credit card debt like crazy giving to "missionaries", but she has to be on WIC to be able to feed herself and her child. Her husband is just a, well, I can't use the descriptors I'd like to for him. Their church believes that men and women swimming in the same pool is a sin! Yes, really. It's very scary. I won't even go into what they think about swimsuits! Their church teaches that the man has every right to his wife's body and she can't tell him no, regardless of what time of the month it is. They are also "quiver full" (from the Old Testament) people.

That said, I have 4 DDs. The first was conceived while I was on the pill, the 2nd while I was on the pill AND using a barrier method. The 3rd arrived after 3 docs told me I couldn't have anymore due to severe scarring in my tubes and 10 years after my 1st. The 4th we did sorta plan. No, I do not believe BC is a sin.

That is exactly what I was going to say.

I used bc pills until we decided to have our dd. Now I am using them again until we start trying for #2 (in about a year, give or take a little). After #2 dh is getting a vasectomy, at least that is the plan right now. I think God would be proud of us since we are making sure that we don't bring more children into this world than we can take care of. JMO.

Which sin? Premarital sex (which I would agree with you that it's a sin) or birth control within the context of marriage (which I would argue is not a sin).

I hate to seem like I am dancing around an issue that you seem to want to address, but...

As I said, the act is not the sin. The sin is the reasoning/desires in the heart for the act. BC within the context of marriage may seem like a simple example, but I could ask 20 questions and likely still not get to the true "heart" of the act. Not only that, but I don't want to get into a big finger-pointing match. Afterall, we are all sinners.

Sorry, I think I was just in an extra argumentative mood yesterday. I didn't mean to sound like I was putting you on the spot. :) :)
