After emergency gynecological surgery I was put on birth control to help lessen the bleeding and the risk of more clots.
This past summer my doctor put me on Seasonale, which is the pill that gives your 4 periods a year, 1 every 3 months.
Now A LOT of people feel that this is wrong because it is messing with nature but I had to take it due to medical reasons, so I hear crap about it all the time but for my health I have to take it.

Absolutely not! Raising children costs money and unless God is printing money in my name I'm stopping at 2 kids!

Not at all. And after working Labor and Delivery and helping a 12 yo deliver a baby, I'm an advocate of it.

My mom (an l&d nurse) said the same thing to me when I was 13-14- "I would much rather you come tell me you need birth control then tell me you're pregnant." This was after she helped a 14 year old deliver.

For myself I wouldn't use an IUD; I believe life begins at conception, but I wouldn't condemn anyone else who chose that method. I think birth control is such a gift.

Unfortunately, it takes more than half a brain to have sense enough to use birth control!

Well technically speaking, abstinence is a form of birth control. And all churches preach abstinence before marriage..so I would say that it depends on what forms of birth control you are talking about.

(The following references to BC refer to BC's other than abstinence)
I believe that sin is in the heart, not in the actions. Actions are a result of what is in the heart. With that being said, I would say that the reason/intent of taking the pill is the indicator as to whether it is a sin or not. If you take the BC for "regulation", certainly that is fine. If you take it because you don't want to get pregnant by your bf, that is another story. But let me make it clear that the sin is the premarital sex..the BC is just a way to make it possible with less chance of "consequences" (a facilitator of the sin if you will).

(P.S.-I want to make it clear that if someone is going to commit the sin of premarital sex, I would rather that they used BC...but I would MUCH prefer that they practiced abstinence.)

You're assuming that the only people using BC are unmarried couples. BC doesn't necessarily equate to premarital sex. There are plenty of married couples who use birth control as well. :)

I voted No....
I would MUCH rather see a 12 year old be on Birth Control instead of thowing the baby in a dumpster or having an abortion and possibly ruining her chances of having another baby when she is ready..

Wouldn't surprise me, I find many of their ideas to have little to no Biblical basis whatsoever.

Not that I agree with their view, but I believe Catholics base everything on the bible.

Of course the big picture question IMO is why anything should be based on the bible given this level of disagreement.

Thank you for you response, but let me clarify. I did not make that assumption and I apologize if it came across that way. I only used premarital sex as an example. Each persons "reasonings" are different and I can't address every type of example...I used the easist example because others can become very cloudy. But my premise holds true...the sin is in the heart. :)

Which sin? Premarital sex (which I would agree with you that it's a sin) or birth control within the context of marriage (which I would argue is not a sin).

Mixed feelings. I'm thankful for natural methods of bc and according to some crazy website for people who think God wants them to have 20 kids..I'm using bc. I do not like the side effects of the pill and prefer not use a product to prevent pregancy if I don't have to. And so far--it works for us and that's all that is important.

No other comments except two:

It is not an exclusive practice of the Catholic church--I know plenty of non-catholics who would answer yes to this question and use other means.

And it is more than following a calendar--it is charting your symptoms to know when YOU are fertile and when you are not. Not looking at the calendar and saying--gee, it's October 5th...today could be okay--what they heck.

*Stepping out of the debate now.*

Well we learned that the reasons priests aren't allowed to marry is because in the Middle Ages, the church did not want to have to support their wives/children if the priest happened to die.

Nope - not a sin...more people should use it!

I made the original comment on the calendar and yes, it was a simplied comment. I am Catholic and I do support BC, but in my case I didn't want to keep having kids after 2 and I didn't want to be on medication for another 20 years...so I tied. It was a decision that DH and I made together. Granted, many people thought I was crazy, but they think that about me anyway  . Who I did feel bad for was my sister who had a problems with her reproductive system at 19, then a miscarriage in her early 20s and finally a set of twins (which I thought was a miracle). With all the heartache she endured, at 33 her wanted to tie and her Catholic OB refused to do it :earseek: . She ended up having the doctor who helped her at 19 do the job, which was very fortunate because when he went in he had to fix some things in there. Thank God I still have my sister!

Actually, Catholics base more on *tradition* than scripture.
