I am asking this question on here because I think you guys know the answers to everything....

That said, I just got birth control today (tri-previfem) and I have been on it before and wanted to get back on it. My Disney trip is on the 14th of this month and I'm due to get my period on the 18th. I had a doctor once tell me (because of my wedding night and not wanting my period!!!) that all I had to do was start a new pill pack when I got to my last week of tabs and it would make me skip. This being said. I just got these pills today. Should I start them at the beginning of my trip to aviod my period or should I start taking them now??

I have been on a generic brand before with no problems so I just need to know what to do because I want the best possible outcome.

Thanks for your opinions. I know that this isn't dangerous because I've had a doctor tell me to do this and it worked out fine with my body cycle. I just forgot to ask when I went today.

:confused3

I would start on the 14th, and continue taking them through your trip.

:rotfl: You make me laugh, hahaha, please don't tell me you're on BC, because you're younger than me, and my mom wont let me have it, and I'm quite upset about it, she knows I'm not out gallivanting (sp?) about, so what's the big deal? :confused3

Why don't you start them now and then refill them and don't take the week off? This is safe, too. I've been told that you can take bc pills back to back to back...it's just like Seasonal (sp?)...where you take pills for 3 months and then have a period. Can anyone back me up on this?

*Edited to say...I wouldn't wait to start them on the 14th. I'm sure you want to wait to get pregnant and if you're just starting bc pills again...doesn't it take some time for them to take effect? You wouldn't be safe from getting pregnant if you took them on the 14th and had unprotected sex. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!!

That is the same way my doctor advised me to skip my period when I had only two days to be with my husband (military leave). That being said, if you can, consult your own doctor now to make sure there are no special circumstances. S/he should be more than happy to advise you over the telephone.

No I'm not. But I did use it once because we went on vacation and I didn't want my period then.

I would just give the doctor or nurse in the office a call tomorrow to double check. It would really suck to have an unplaned pregnancy because of human error. WHen you start the pills it has something to do with when you ovulate and the amount of hormones in your system. If you just start taking them I am not sure if it will be effective. ANd you are right that if you start a new pack without taking the placebos you will not get a period.

LUCKY lol, my mom knews months in advance I was scheduled for the week of Disney World, but refused to budge, grrrrrr, but I survived, but I don't think my dad did, lol :rotfl:

While you should consult your doctor or pharmacist...

Most pills are supposed to be started on the Sunday after your period starts (if you do Sunday start) and I think on the first day of your period (for non Sunday start, but I do Sunday start so I'm not sure).

Most pills can be taken back to back without any adverse effects (I still got bloated and really pmssy when I tried it) but you should ask your doc just in case. They do make a pill that gives you 3 periods a year.

I would start it the sunday after your period so that you dont ovulate this month and get any surprises. Then I would get a new pack before you leave and skip the last week of pills in this pack.

Have fun!

My doctor told me that while I can do this to move my period because of a vacation, that they really aren't designed for that. She warned me about an increase in the risk of pregnancy when I do this. Just something to keep in mind.

And regarding Seasonale, not all doctors are prescribing that. Mine will not because she isn't convinced it's safe. So that may or may not be an option for you.

I only did it because there was no way on God's green earth I was having my period in WDW. :rotfl2:

Hubby and I use three methods other than BC, so I'm not too worried about getting pregnant.

Thanks you guys for your suggestions. I thought that the 14th may be the better thing to do, I just wanted to know some of your opinions.

Oh and for the person who said couldn't you just skip three....well, I get kinda crazy when I don't have my period for a while!!! LOL> I just don't want to have it at Disney and also my anniversary is on the 28th of December so I don't want to have it this month!!! :teeth:

I'm sorry...what are the placebos again? I have a pack that has
week 1: 7 white pills
week 2: 7 baby blue pills
week 3: dark blue pills
week 4: light green

These are the light green ones correct??

The placebos are the last week's worth of pills. You just take those so you dont get out of the habit of taking your pills every day.

The light green would be the placebos. I have skipped the placebos on many different types of pills for this exact reason. The only time I've had problems was when i was on a low-dose pill because of breastfeeding. It did not work for me that time. I still got my period and it was much worse. If I were you, I would wait a little bit before starting them. That way you're guaranteed not to have your period on vacation. Even if you're skipping placebos while you're there, you never know, you still might get it. Since you're starting a new prescription. I wouldn't chance it on vacation. And my doctor also advises me that this is perfectly safe. I do it all the time, not just for vacation. I have 4 periods a year--just like seasonale, but using a regular prescription.

I tried the same thing on two different prescriptions. the first prescription was ortho tricyclen (sp?). I skipped the placebos for three months and in the fourth month I got my period during the second week of the active pills. the other prescription was ovcon and the first month i tried to do the same thing but i got my period anyway. Sooooo my advice to you is to ask your doctor. It may or may not work depending on the dosage of hormones in the pills and your body. Hope this helps. good luck.

I would like to put in my 2 cents.

I always go prepared. Mother Nature has a nack for showing up when not expected and also not showing up when expected.
