Birth cert for 10 wk old

I don't have his BC yet because I had to wait for his social security card to arrive before I could apply for the BC. I am leaving on Friday so getting one may be an issue. I have a certified proof of live birth letter from the hospital. Do you think I could use that? I will call the airline.

I have DD's BC already so I will bring that just in case.

I assume you still live in/near the county of baby's birth. Google something like "registrar county of birth" or "registrar county of birth" and find the offices that take care of birth certificates. They usually have an option to come on in to pick up a certified copy, and that's same-day, usually. Just do it!

I did this and the only place in VA they do this is in Richmond (the capital). Fortunately I don't live too far, but it is a 40 min trip each way, which I was hoping to not have to do with 2 little ones. There is so much to do before our trip.

Air Tran said no ID was necessary for either child.

I found out a few hours after talking to air tran that my dad works 1 floor above the office of vital records and so he will pick up a BC for DS to have just in case. It saves me a drive out there.

I just wanted to agree with the PPs who mentioned that TSA shouldn't be asking if you are a child's parent, just if the child is the person named on the boarding pass. My DD has a different last name than my DH and I, and she has never been asked in all the times she's flown who we were. My niece has flown with us as well, which makes a total of 3 last names for 4 people. No one asked who was who or why the children with different last names were with me. I had no document to state that I could take either of them and didn't need it.
