Bin Laden - celebrations

The pack mentality on this thread is getting out of hand and I really have to question why this thread is still open or at the very least, not been told to cool it down.

I guess that's not your call. Just like it's not your call as to how Americans reacted to "the news"

Again I agree with you. Many folks here have expressed themselves very well - on both sides of the debate. Those that haven't don't care what anyone else thinks anyway.

True- and the thread started by calling jubilant Americans... "disgusting". You reap what you sew.

Please show me ONCE where I expressed my opinion on whether or not people should celebrate and how they should celebrate.

She didn't call them disgusting. She said she was disgusted by the behavior. Big difference.

So she shouldn't be offended if I say I'm disgusted by her opinion. Why the need to call it the pack mentality? Because many agree? :confused3

I'm sorry if I misunderstood- I thought you found the "celebrations" of the demise of OBL to be wrong. Was I mistaken?

I'm not seeing the difference there Nikita.

I swore to stay away from this thread but since your post is not on the original topic, here is my thought on the difference:

You notice your 4-year-old picking her nose and eating her boogers. The behavior is disgusting, but you don't consider your child disgusting.

Not comparing anyone to children here - this is just the example I could think of: your child misbehaves. Instead of telling him HE is bad, you tell him his ACTIONS were bad. Again, not saying celebrating is 'bad' - just my example of the difference I see in the original post.

At that moment, the child is disgusting. I'll say it.

Yes, you are.

In that case- this ugly American apologizes.

See, I was thinking more of, oh I don't know, slimey mold. It's disgusting looking therefore I'm disgusted.

I morn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate just multiplies hate. Hate cannot drive out hate!!....only love can do that.

Aw, she's so cute! Can I keep her? Please? Just so no one hurts her?:flower3:

But in that situation you are judging your child's actions as bad because as their parent you have the authority over them to do so. At the same time you are scolding them for doing whatever action that is and hoping to correct the action so it doesn't happen again.

In this situation neither celebrating nor not celebrating is wrong therefore why would you scold the action? It would be like your child choosing to put their coat on by zipping it first and then pulling it over their head instead of putting it on and then zipping it. Sure, it might not be the way you do it but it isn't wrong, just different, and therefore needs no scolding what so ever.

Disagreeing with how someone celebrated is not the same as calling either the celebration or the person doing the celebrating disgusting. That is a judgment and no matter how much anyone says they are judging the action and not the person that isn't completely true. One's actions can't really be judged without it at least partially reflecting the person doing that action. Even in your example your child was being bad or at least misbehaving while they were performing the action you deemed bad.

I have a story for you:

Sweet child 4 : What do your boogers taste like?

Sweet child 5: "yum"

Sweet child 4 : No! I mean what flavor?

Sweet child 5: "Delicious".

:lmao:
