Bin Laden - celebrations

I see what you are saying, but I still seperate action from person in this case. As far as judging - you bet - we all do it, every day. I really believe the OP was judging the scenes she saw, without saying each person involved was disgusting.

Yes we do but when you do it (either directly or indirectly by judging the person's action) and you get called on it don't deny it.

I have not seen one person judging someone else for not celebrating but I do see people being judged for celebrating. The vast majority of people on this thread on either side of the debate have said they don't care what other people do but don't want to be told the way they choose to do the celebrating of the death was wrong. Very few posts are directly judging anyone and while the OP is not alone by any means she is also not innocent of it.

But if it´s "an eye for an eye" wouldn´t that mean you still need to kill approx. 3000 more people?

No. An eye for an eye means that the person who took the eye of their enemy owes his in return. If that person takes the eyes of 5 enemies he still only owes his in return, not his and the eyes of 4 other people. This is why in a capital case a mass murder is only executed once, they don't kill him and another person for each of his murders.

Come on Frank, you've been around here long enough to see the veiled insults. There are plenty there judging both sides of this issue.

Correct - the first line (before the word "Returning") was not Martin Luther King but rather they believe came from a facebook user who subsequently appended the rest of the "quote" after THEIR "quote".

Thank you! It is amazing how quickly one person can spread wrong information around the world these days.

By no means am I innocent of judging the actions I called disgusting. Voicing a strong opinion on any matter, is usually just that. Judgement of the actions involved in each case.
Every day we see people here on the Dis judge what other people do. My post is no different.

They´re not even very veiled!

And every day we see people getting called out on the DIS for judging people. Why do you feel you shouldn't be?

They´re not even very veiled!

Nope, not when the first post starts with the OP saying she's disgusted by some of us.

Oh I've seen plenty of insults but I don't think I've seen anyone call anyone else disgusting for not going out and celebrating in the streets. I very well may have missed it but the people I have seen saying they were happy or celebrated have all said they don't care if anyone else did the same.

The jibes at the OP's country were uncalled for but they weren't directed at her choice of reaction to the news. In reality there was no right or wrong reaction so why would I put down any of them?

Nope, not when the first post starts with the OP saying she's disgusted by some of us.

I DID NOT say I was disgusted by any of you nor anyone else! I did say that certain actions disgusted me. If you do not want to read what I write and explain, then don´t. But DO NOT put words in my mouth!

Um, okay, you win! You know what you meant, and so do we.

You know what? This is just plain rude!
I do know what I meant, and so do many people here. You obviously do not believe that I meant what I did and that´s your problem!
It amazes me that you can´t differentiate between disliking an action and disliking the person who does it (let alone an entire country). I think you have a problem!

I was disgusted by the actions of those people who celebrated, no matter what their nationality is. I am NOT disgusted by Americans and will not tolerate being portrayed as such!

Your book does not apply to me then! If you have read this thread you would see that many have pointed out that only small groups (mostly college students) celebrated the death of Osama Bin Laden. Those groups disgust me, but others do not. I want that to be very clear. It´s not up to you to decide whom I´m disgusted by and whom not.

Bad wording on my part. English is not my native language and therefore it is not as easy for me as I would like to state exactly what I meant. I have said it before and will say it again. Their actions disgusted me not the people! If it were the people I would have said it in the original post.
I wish I wouldn´t care whether you believed me or not but I really do. I hate being misunderstood and called out for an opinion/feeling which I do not hold.

You may be disgusted by my true opinions as much as you want, but not for opinions which are no truly mine!

I have many problems, many of which stem from 9/11 and Osama Bin Laden so excuse me if I don't bow my head and say a prayer for his sorry butt. Nor will I feel disgust at people who were happy he is dead. I will not condemn others until I have walked a mile in their shoes.

Please note not:

The actions of those groups disgust me.

ETA: You are right, only you know what you truly mean. We can only go by what you put here and come to our own conclusions. The post above and the OP both read to me like even though you mentioned the actions your found the people doing them disgusting and I take offense to being told how I should react to the news that the person who is most responsible for changing my life and country forever is dead. React differently all you want but don't tell me how I should react.

Yep. Aside from the fact that those college students have lived under The obl shadow through most of their lives, college students will party for anything. Again.

Good for you. And I honestly mean that!

To me, the difference is they are celebrating the death of a mass murderer, as opposed to the Muslims celebrating mass murder on 9/11.

FTR, I realize not all Muslims celebrated.

If you realize that, why did you say "the Muslims" in your post? That contradicts your disclaimer.

I have to ask... what did you think was going to happen when you started this thread? Did you think we would all say, "Oh, Freyja you know so wise. How should we react? Please tell us so we can be appropriate."

I will state again- I did not go out and celebrate- I woke up in the morning, watched some news.... got ready for work, came home, made dinner watched some more news... but if someone felt like celebrating that a mass murdering terrorist had been killed by order of THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES... I'm okay with that.

I think the problem stems from the fact that many people are thinking the OP is saying that being happy about OBL's death is wrong. She's not. She's saying that she didn't like the cheering in the streets.

In fact, in the op, she said she was happy he was dead and that the US killed him. You actually agree with her.
