Billed before $1000 at POR and other weird billing issues

OP here. I wonder if it is a problem they are having more than a deliberate choice. (Or maybe management not passing info down to desk CMs.) That would explain why the charge went through on the same day as a refund for the exact same amount.

Curious to know if this has happened to anyone else. We were billed for our full room cost after a few days at the resort. (A hold was placed and then the charges went through a few days later.) Not a problem, but we've never had this happened before.

We also were billed for charges to our room before we hit $1000........
Just curious!

VP

I'm surprised it was after a few days. I can't remember not paying in full for our room upon check in. And last summer I was actually billed for my room in full while I was hours away and not even checked in. It would not have been an issue but we planned at check in for me to pay for the weekend nights and DH to pay the weekday since he was there on business. They easily refunded and re-billed but had they waited to charge us when we checked in it would not have been an issue.

The OP is talking about the charges to your room during your stay, not the actual room cost.

No, I was talking about actual room cost as well as room charges. Both normally don't post to my account for days after my stay. This trip has been different, but I'm starting to think it is my bank that has been the issue.

My bad:oops: Failed to closely read your statement that the reply was referring too:(

We stayed at CSR in March. They charged our credit card every time we hit $500 in charges to the room. The room itself was pre-paid. So maybe the limits have been reduced this year. It didn't bother me but I can see it being a problem if you wanted to pay it down by another means then your credit card.

I then told them that they really need to notify the customers that they are planning to do this.

Good for you!

As of last year

Value - $500
Moderate - $1000
Deluxe - $1500

Apparently that change didn't go well.

I can easily reach $600 in one day due to the size of the group I travel with and our TS meal costs. I guess I had better go down every day to apply GC's to avoid the charge going to my CC. In the past, I have just gone down every few days and paid down our balance. I hope they will start notifying us at check-in of this new policy.

Why bother with the MB? Why not just use the GCs?

I just wonder if they ever have guest that don't have a credit card? How do they handle that? Some people may only have a debit card, and I imagine that could just be a nightmare!

If you have to deal with a refund, using the debit card is going to be harder. But those who travel with a debit card generally will have (should have) the full amount they'll need so it won't cause actual problems.

I find this Disney policy very confusing. I think many people will have multiple charges during the stay, which makes it harder to calculate whether the right amounts were charged. Every other hotel I have stayed at bills the full amount to your credit card at check-out. Much easier to read your final bill this way. In the past, we have paid directly with CC at each point of purchase, so I can see the itemized item one-by-one in my cc, instead of a "lump" from the hotel at random times.

Not sure about floridagirl61, but we get our GCs from Target and $50 is the max, and I would hate to have to carry a bunch of GCs around with a chance of losing them when I can just use our MB and then pay at the resort every few day. I have no issue with their policy, I was just caught off guard by it and it is something they need to let their customers know about.

Check your electronics department for the $100 gift cards. We found some back by the movies with the other cards they sell. :)

I don't want to carry GC's with me. I like to go without bags so the MB's are the way I prefer

That's what I do. $50 target GC's. Will have to look for the $100 ones

Because it defeats the convenience of the Magic Band/room charging system. Because if you've been saving for a while using gift cards it is a pain to carry them around. Because it is an annoyance at the cash register to use more than one card or keep track of the remaining balances on cards as you go. Because if a gift card is lost or stolen anyone it can't be recovered and anyone can use it, unlike the PIN protection the MB offers.

We pay for all our Disney trips in gift cards we purchase through a school fundraiser. It is much easier to stop by the front desk every few days and apply the cards than to carry them around (usually in $100 increments - a week's spending can be quite a pile of cards!) to spend at each point-of-sale where we make a purchase. I don't care if Disney changes the established charging limits, but it would be nice to have some sort of notice before the CC is charged or at the very least new "official" limits made known so those of us who do use gift cards can adjust to the new policies. Or better yet, they could start accepting gift cards in advance like they do with cash and only charge the CC on file if you go over the deposited amount.

We save using gift cards also ($25 on each card) and pay off our room charges each night or the next morning usually. Will they let you apply the gift cards and have a credit?

I'm with you colleem27. We charge to MB then pay off with gift cards. Not had an issue yet. I love them.

I have asked them before if they had any higher amount GCs with no luck, but I will check that out. Thank you:) Cannot beat Target GCs:thumbsup2

No, not that I've ever read about. The resort will link to your CC for charging (at your request), but they won't establish a "savings" account where you could place money or gift cards in advance of payment for WDW resort transactions.
