bikes and safety

We are going to the Fort in October for the first time. We've never stayed on site before and are very excited. I noticed from one of the maps that there are paths. We have two sons 5 and 7. We plan on bringing bikes. Do only people riding bikes stay on the paths or are golf carts also on the paths? I have been reading alot about unruly children driving golf carts and just want to make sure that we will not be sharing a path with them. My children are not the best bike riders!!

Also, to go to the MK we can take a boat from the marina. Where do we go to take a bus to AK, MGM, Ep, BB, TL and DTD? Thanks.

We just returned from our first trip to the fort. From what I could see, most of the golf carts drove on the road and people who were walking or riding bikes used the cart path. My youngest son (age 7) is at the age where he doesn't look more than a few feet in front of him when riding his bike, so I was a bit worried. He was fine though. Most of the carts and cars go slow anyway. We didn't run into any kids driving crazy.

And yes, to get to MK you can take the boat right from FW's dock. To go to other places, you take one of FW's busses to either the Settlement or the Outpost, then switch to a bus going to your destination. You will get a paper when you check in telling you which bus goes to which end (for instance, the Epcot bus picks up at the Outpost end; the AK bus picks up at the Settlement end). Have fun!

The golf carts are only allowed on the roads not on the paths, which are all over the Fort.You will not have any trouble with your bikes. The Epcot, Animal Kingdom and the Down Town Disney buses are boarded at the Outpost bus stop. The MGM studios bus is at the Settlement bus stop.
