Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

Good afternoon all!

I never give up hope, but just try not to have any expectations.

This is a great attitude to have and makes things a lot easier. :flower3:

My co worker is on vacation so I might not have a change to pop in much so I am rooting for you all to have a GREAT week, feel better if your not right now, take a minute to breathe if you running your kids everywhere under the sun and keep moving forward towards a heathlier you!

Enjoy your 4th! :wave2:

OK, you got the Quote of the day for us!!!

Works for me! :thumbsup2 But it is Maria's quote.

Kristina, hope that you are feeling better! :flower3:

A big BL congratulations to all our superstars and especially to our Biggest Loser, Fran! :yay:

Fran, I hope you have another great week thanks to the "coaching effect!" :teeth: And that mega-clippie looks great on you! :woohoo:

Thanks for finding the medal picture for the Donald! :thanks:

Not much new to report. My weight has been slowly going in the right direction. I'm nowhere near my goal for the year or month, but at least I'm focused on losing the weight for myself.

Great job moving in the right direction! :thumbsup2

Well, third time is the charm..I'm down 60 pounds as of Sunday!!!

What a wonderful accomplishment and milestone! Yay you! :yay:

Hope everyone is having a great start to the 4th week. I did go to the dr about my foot. It's a strain and I have to stay off the treadmill for 2 weeks and no weight bearing activites. Hope you all have a great week.

Bummer about the foot! Hope you are feeling better very soon! :flower3:

Trina, sounds like you've done a great job getting your eating right back on track! :thumbsup2

QOTD (July 3): What are you planning to eat on the 4th of July? How do you intend to resist and/or alter your eating for the day, in order to help with your intentional weight loss goal? (If you are not from the US, share a national holiday from your country and apply the question to that day.)

I'm going to eat what is served tomorrow but use portion sizes to limit myself so I don't go overboard. I'm also bringing a green salad so I will have a big bunch of that to help fill myself up.

Christopher, nice to see you! :wave2: Glad that you are checking in and hanging in there. :goodvibes

Fun Side Note: I'm looking at apartments in Florida for when I move, even though I have no idea when it will happen. I'm basing a lot of my decision on proximity to WDW. That's totally normal, right? ;)

You know that sounds perfectly reasonable to this crowd, right? :lmao:

OK, quick Quote of te day, and then I have to jet. Trying to hasmat the boys room. If I'm not back by sundown, send a re-con team!!!!!

don't exchange what you want most for what you want at the moment

Love this quote, Buffy! I saw someone with a clippie of it not too long ago.

We are going to our friend's house for the 4th. I'm bringing a "lite" 7 layer dip with veggies. I'll also eat a chicken skewer and possibly a bunless hamburger. Lots of fruit and water. As for resisting, I find that if I have a plan I do better so I'm planning ahead of time what I'll eat.

This is a great idea! :goodvibes

Oh, Pamela, this sounds like a good time for an example of a pjlla plan! :teeth:

Thanks - I did get some inserts from CVS and they do seem to help WHEN I actually wear the appropriate shoes. I'm a slave to flip-flops (most likely the reason for the heel issues to begin with) and am working hard to wean myself off of them.

Is there such a thing as a supportive, but still cute, flip-flop? :confused3

So nice to see you, Laura, and I am so sorry about the PF.

I swear by Merrell shoes, sandals and flip flops. They are expensive but wear like iron and have helped so much with my PF. They are not the cutest in the world, but I figure walking around grimacing with pain isn't too cute either. ;) I also found not going barefoot at all -- even at night really helps. Good luck! :flower3:

We are going to an amusement park that does not let you bring anything in, not even bottled water, and they have nothing remotely healthy to eat. Turkey legs, pizza and beer are the staples there from what I have gathered. I think the only way I will survive without being a complete crank is to just give myself a pass for tomorrow. I'm going to try to eat small portions but small portions of bad food is still bad. At least I'l be doing a lot of walking the next few days.

Sounds like the best plan under the circumstances. Have a great time! :sunny:

Just swimming along here. :fish: Have a very Happy 4th of July all!

Completely normal!!!!

Well the people on these boards won't think that unusual ... but off the boards, that may be a different story. :lmao: Happy "future" apartment planning.

You know that sounds perfectly reasonable to this crowd, right? :lmao:

The place I think I've settled on is about $200-300 more a month than other places I really like...but it's eleven minutes from WDW. ELEVEN!! How can I say no?!? I need to hurry up and get my ADN so I can move down and be literally right next door the the magic, haha!

Another thing you can try is the towel stretch for your calves. When my p-f was really bad last fall, I stretched before I even got out of bed in the morning.

Lay on your back. One leg straight up in the air. Hook a beach towel around the front of your foot and pull your entire leg towards you. You should feel it in the back of your leg from top to bottom, but it should not be painful. When I was in rehab I did this four times a day for 30 sec at a time x 4 repetitions per leg. A tight calf can make p-f much worse. As always, not a doctor, but this really helped me. Good luck!

When I was looking to buy a house down here the realtor asked what I wanted in a house. Before I even rambled off the usual # of bedrooms, # of bathrooms, etc I said "It has to be within 30 minutes of Disney World. No, that is NOT negotiable" :lmao:

Depending on where we want to go on property, when I take the toll road by my house we're there within 10 - 15 minutes :woohoo:

We are having a traditional clam/lobster bake. Lobster, clams on the 1/2 shell, steamers with butter, shrimp, the usual.
I'm already trying to figure out how to keep my calories down to a minimum.
I need to browse MFP for calorie info.

This will be tough but I think if I drink water, limit my butter and cocktail sauce, and don't snack that day I can do it.

Okay ... this sounds delicious. I would have a hard time with this. I think I would have to just limit what I eat for the other part of the day.

I'm glad you found your way back to us, Christopher!! You know what to do in Norway even if you can't log food. Watch your sauces and butters, 1/2 plate of veggies and fruit, 1/2 carb, 1/4 protein.
You are going to both countries at a perfect time of year, lots to see and do, a plenty of opportunity to walk, hike, bike ride. Europe is the best for physical activity like that.
I can't wait to hear how it goes!!! I'm jealous!

Great plan! :goodvibes Hope it helps Christopher.

But hopefully next summer we will be in Spain walking the El Camino de Santiago.

Completely normal!!!!

I will come get you Buffy! I completely understand! Be careful, one hour in there can lead to a whole week of cleaning!

Merrells are also what I would recommend. They have a lot of support.

Ugh ... try to focus on drinking a lot of water. That can ease the dehydration and work on not making you feel hungry. I am sure it will be hot where you are going.

Alan said he wants to grill out. More then likely hamburgers, hot dogs, maybe chicken. I honestly don't know how I'm going to feel come tomorrow so I'll play what I'm going to eat by ear.

The good news is I just came back from my doctor's office. I saw her nurse practitioner because she was completely booked. I don't have bronchitis or phenomnia (sp). She said my sinuses are just really bad. She put me on an antibiotic, nasal spray, and Robitussin with Coedine. I told her the things that were really bothering me were the constant coughing with the mucus and my throat. I haven't slept well in a week. She said the Robitussin will help me to sleep and I should start feeling better by Thursday.

On the scale news:

I weighed myself in the nude before I got in the shower and scale said 200.8! I'm thinking that pretty accurate considering the dr's office scale said 202.8 and I was fully clothed with shoes on. WOW...

WOW ... you are almost in ONEderland!!!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: Keep up the good work! You can do it!

Love this quote, Buffy! I saw someone with a clippie of it not too long ago.

Probably Firedancer (Frank). I think he has that in his siggie.

Christopher, I messed up my typing. 1/2 veggie and fruit, 1/4 carb, 1/4 protein.

Kristina WOOHOO!!!!! You are sooooo close to one-derland!!!

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a try. :thumbsup2 I have noticed that my calf seems a little tight - I think I am walking more on the ball of my foot to keep pressure off the heel and that is affecting my calf muscle.

Independence Day - Background

During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia declaring the United States independent from Great Britain.[4][5] After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4. A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail:

The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.[6]

Adams's prediction was off by two days. From the outset, Americans celebrated independence on July 4, the date shown on the much-publicized Declaration of Independence, rather than on July 2, the date the resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress.[7]

Historians have long disputed whether Congress actually signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, even though Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin all later wrote that they had signed it on that day. Most historians have concluded that the Declaration was signed nearly a month after its adoption, on August 2, 1776, and not on July 4 as is commonly believed.[8][9][10][11][12]

In a remarkable coincidence, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only signers of the Declaration of Independence later to serve as Presidents of the United States, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. Although not a signer of the Declaration of Independence, but another Founding Father who became a President, James Monroe, died on July 4, 1831, thus becoming the third president in a row who died on this memorable day. Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President, was born on July 4, 1872, and, so far, is the only President to have been born on Independence Day.

For the people living in the US, I thought there were some interesting facts about our Independence Day that I never knew. Have a wonderful day!

QOTD (July 4): Just as July 4th marks our independence as a country, imagine a day where you are independent from weight. You have finally obtained your goal weight. How will this change your life? For those of you who are maintainers, write about your independence.

I've worked hard to focus on my eating right and working out. I think once I hit my goal weight nothing will really change. I mean yes I'll be in smaller sizes but for the most part I will continue my healthy habits. I don't want to fall back into the old ways of living my life and be miserable in life due to my weight.

I've only lost around 30 pounds and I feel healthier then what I did at my heaviest, 233. I can only imagine how great I will feel when I eventually hit my goal weight. I remember the confidence I had, the desire to shop and actually enjoy it, overall just emotionally being happier. That out of everything is what I'm looking forward to the most. Yes, I'm happy now but there's just something about being at a healthy weight that just makes you feel AWESOME!

Happy July 4th Eve to all my American friends!

Sorry to be MIA these last few days. And now we are at the Cape for a quick 48 hour holiday with DH's family. We usually stay longer but driver's ed, work, and swim practice dictated the schedule this year.

Exhausted right now as DD had early practice today. Will be back tomorrow morning to chat........P

How will it change my life???
Kids - I can keep up with my kids. Play sports, go for a run, roller skate, etc. They have energy that I wish I could bottle and sell!!
I can also help set an example to my children when it comes to how to eat and what to eat. We have such a skewed sense of what a healthy meal is in America, I want my kids to learn how to make healthy choices.

Health - I can stave off diabetes. It is hereditary on my mom's side of the family so my odds of getting it are high. If I can put it off until I'm 60+ years old that would be awesome. Not getting it at all would be even better!

Husband - I want to be able to travel with DH when the kids are grown, and see the world. And I won't have to worry about weight and lack of energy holding me back.

Shopping - I can walk into most stores and be able to find clothes that fit, especially on this petite frame cause we all know if you're 5'1" your a size 4 or no bigger than an 8 or 10.

Quote of the day

If you want to fly, you've got to give up the stuff that weighs you down

What a perfect question of the day to keep me on target this week and not indulge in 4th of July goodies! :)

My freedom will be finally confident and physically able to ride the three horses i have been training for 3 years!!! So excited! I have put off buying a saddle because it really needs to fit your 'seat'..and my seat needed to be much smaller!! I am down 60 pounds and plan to start riding in the next few weeks!!

I will also stave off diabetes, my mother and grandmother started having trouble in their late 60s..to this day my mom still downs the sweet tea...I have not had sweet tea in 2 years! My grandmother lived to be 96 but her last years of daily injections could not have been easy.

I will get to do all the fun stuff with my family, going snorkeling for the first time in September, being 60 pounds heavier, I would not have done it! I am traveling to England with my son's high school class next spring..the last time I went, I felt such guilt about being overweight, seemed everyone in London is fit (all that walking) and I got stares for being that 'fat' American...just tough feelings!

I am going to have a hamburger patty with veggies and allowing myself 5 homemade fries...the rest is fruit and raw veggies for the day, no sugars and loads of water, oh and my 6 miles for the day!! Can't wait to master this holiday!! :)

Thanks - I'm going to check them out. I'm guilty of going barefoot around the house a lot as well - I have to work on that. :guilty:

After you heal up you may be able to do a little barefoot stuff but for now, get those shoes on.

Actually I don't think my life will change that much when I am at goal weight. I think that things will be easier but in some ways I will still be confronted by the same choices and temptations. I think the big difference will be in how I feel about myself and my ability to cope with the ups and downs of life. I already notice that now as my health improves. My very successful maintainer friends, Pamela, Corinna and Rose taught me that this is a lifelong journey. :cool2:

Happy July 4th my fellow Americans! And happy Wednesday to the rest of you.

Something I ate yesterday did NOT agree with me last night, so I spent most of the night tossing and turning and in the bathroom (TMI, sorry). I am exhausted this morning and feeling a bit like I got run over, so forgive me if I don't hang around to chat.

Started the day with two huge glasses of water....hopefully that will help.

Sprinkling this morning here at the Cape :sad2:. Hopefully it will clear for fireworks tonight.

Enjoy your holiday!..........P

60 pounds is awesome! That is SO exciting about riding your horse. Let us know the first day you are saddled in! :yay:

I will also stave off diabetes, my mother and grandmother started having trouble in their late 60s..to this day my mom still downs the sweet tea...I have not had sweet tea in 2 years! My grandmother lived to be 96 but her last years of daily injections could not have been easy.

I am so sorry you felt that way the last time you were there. My sister lives in England and 15 years ago when I visited her, things were so much different than here in the US. Grocery stores weren't open past 5:00 and only 1/2 a day on Saturday. There were hardly any fast food places. However, that is ALL changing and I am not sure it is for the good.

I am going to have a hamburger patty with veggies and allowing myself 5 homemade fries...the rest is fruit and raw veggies for the day, no sugars and loads of water, oh and my 6 miles for the day!! Can't wait to master this holiday!! :)

UGH ... I hope you are feeling better Pam. And you are not at your own house. I hate when I don't feel good and I'm out of my element.

It finally poured down rain last night. I hasn't rained here for at least 2 weeks, possibly more. I can feel my yard saying .... aaahhhhh. I have been watering my ivy and flowers. My water bill is going to be bad this month. :headache:

Kristina, that is so funny about going house hunting. At least as Disney fans, we know what we want!

Independence from weight will be a huge victory for me. It will mean that I have learned how to eat to live and not live to eat. It will symbolize what I can accomplish and how I can do it. I won't feel awkward going clothes shopping and going to the pool and going out to eat. It will feel so good to reach that goal. Right now, I'm over halfway there and getting closer by the day!

I'm posting now from the new app on my phone. So far, its not bad, but I don't think I can multi-quote. Either that or I can and I haven't figured it out yet :-p.

QOTD--hmmm, I don't really feel independent from my weight. I do love it that clothes shopping is much easier. I love it that I am very active, and if I don't do something it's cause I choose not to, not because I think I am too heavy or I am embarrassed. I love it that I am healthy and that when I go to the doctor my weight is a non-issue. I love it that I can almost keep up with my 20something yo son and his friends.;) (Ok, not really but we have fun hanging out with them until we poop out around 11:00 and go to bed.)

BUT, it is a lifelong journey that I still think about every single day. Every day. I am conscious when I am making bad choices, and I can tell at the size I am now if I put on even a couple of pounds. Currently I am up. I don't beat myself up like I used to. And I am not going to throw in the towel and go on a month long binge, but it is still, after almost two years of mostly maintaining, a little scary to me at times. I do not EVER want to go back to where i was before. But I know that without diligence and work that it could happen.

This is not to say that I go around worrying about it all the time, but I am mindful. Mindful of the fact that I ate way too many chips today, and I am going to have to do a double workout tomorrow to make up for it. Mindful that it is a lifelong journey, and while I don't have to be perfect, I cannot just say, ok I'm thin now, I'm done.

Maintaining has made me more confident, but I do still think about how easy it would be to be that old person again.

Anyhow, didn't mean to be a downer. It really is a wonderful feeling to not have to worry all the time. And to feel good when I look in the mirror.:goodvibes
