Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

QOTD: Wednesday. What do we all love? Food, of course! If shopping isn't fun for you, Epcot is probably one of the best places to try new and interesting food. What is your favorite restaurant in Epcot and what do you like to order?

Extra Question: Pizza is one of my "binge foods", as I call it, because I usually end up eating way more than I am supposed to and it triggers something that makes me want to eat more and more junk. What is your trigger food and do you take it completely from your diet or eat it every once in awhile and just try to control those cravings?

I have to say Chefs de France...the french onion soup is to DIE for!! And the profiteroles are so delicious! I could go and make a meal out of just those things.

As for my trigger food....anything that's deep-fried. I think it's the Southern girl in me, but I will eat anything if it's got a breadcrumb coating on it! I still like to eat them, but it greater moderation than I used to. Instead of going and getting a burger and fries and eating everything on my plate, I savor it a lot more and only eat half my fries.

QOTD Thursday: One of my favorite things about Epcot is Illuminations. Epcot itself is a celebration of all cultures coming together and celebrating each others unique differences and lifestyles. Illuminations reminds us when we work together we can achieve the impossible and make the world a better place. In your journey to health are you more of a team player, or do you do better alone? Do you belong to a sports team, have a workout group, or attend WW meetings? Since we are all here on the BL thread, I assume we are at least a bit of a team player and do better with encouragement from others!

I tend to do both, actually. I like to do some stuff alone, but I do better at other things as part of a group. Like running, I like to do alone. But I do love my WW meetings! I'm fairly independent and don't like to have anybody watch me when I work out so I like to do that by myself! :rotfl2:

QOTD:

I like to do some stuff alone but I guess I'm a team player. I kind of have to be with 4 kids. My team is the family and the DIS.
This is kind of the reason I steered my kids towards running because while it is a team sport, it's your individual performance that counts and you can push yourself to do your personal best.

OK so I was sharing this on the Creative Community forum (my other home) so I had to share here too.
DH was making crepes a few weeks ago and this was the last crepe, we were running out of batter.

Who is it?? And no, it wasn't planned at all.

I hope the kids inhale the rest of them tonight. I just can not have that crap in the house.

I guess I'm about half and half. I like to have this community, the ww community and I really enjoy exercising at a zumba or RIPPED class. Yet, I do alot of planning and reading about this journey in solitude. I couldn't wait for someone to begin a journey with me, so I began alone, but I've met great people on their own journey along the way. And one of my friends is now going to zumba too.

Can I be a little bit of both, lol? I attend WW meetings, and they are incredible for me - so motivating, a great group that really cares for one another, an AMAZING leader, seriously, she's just one of a kind. I have a group of three ladies that we are all *determined* that this time is THE time to reach all of our get healthy goals, and we call and text each other daily to see how we're doing, share tips, just check in. Plus, of course, there's this group :) that I enjoy very much - the sharing, the qotd and the quotes are wonderful.

That being said, the only group exercise I enjoy is Zumba. Otherwise, I want to do it all alone, lol. I don't want to chat while I run. I don't enjoy lifting weights with friends and grunting and straining while trying to carry on a conversation. No thanks-not this girl!

Working on it!!!

Oh good!

Afternoon everyone! ::MickeyMo

Its been a lounge kind of day for me. I went to bed last night feeling pretty crummy. I was coughing my head off and my throat was killing me. I'm just taking it easy today. I took some Dayquil sinus and am sucking on a cough drop. It seems to be helping but I just have no energy. Alan is at the Chevy dealer taking care of something and I'm just a bump on a log today.

I don't have any high hopes for the scale tomorrow considering I'm not going to work out today. Hope everyone has a great weekend! I'm hoping I'll feel better and we can go to Disney and hang out. We were going to do it last weekend but the weather got in the way.

Feel better soon!

In real life, I push myself harder alone. Making meals is easier with others but when I workout, I tend to talk when I am with friends rather than focus on my workout. I tend to keep to myself but I do love it here on the BL thread where we can give others encouragement or ask questions but we still have to have that outside motivation at home.

Once again, I'd like to apologize for missing a day and being late a couple times. I assumed picking a week a few after our WDW vacation I'd be less busy....:lmao: right. I've never had a week like this, and I literally sat upright when I realized I hadn't even visited DIS today. I will definitely report on the Color Run. We have to drive about 2.5 hours so we have to leave around 4AM to get to packet pickup in time. :scared1: I'll probably have a couple pictures too, but I'm really excited.

And now the rest of my day is filled with photos, baseball games, making color run shirts and getting this darned room clean!!

Have a WONDERFUL day. I've loved being able to insert a little Epcot talk into my life during this hectic week.

Don't worry about it...seems like we are fine!

QOTD: mostly a loner. I enjoyed my WW meetings years ago when I attended, but never got to know anyone. I'm shy and don't do well with people I don't know. I have taken a few group exercise classes but I always feel so out of place and awkward.

Got some cleaning done this afternoon and evening and laundry is caught up (at least for the moment). Tried to scrap but I'm so fed up with the book for my MIL that I just sat here staring!

Dinner was delish, but a bit hot for such a warm day (homemade veggie chili). Thankfully there is enough left for two big servings so that will be one meal for the men while DD and I are away this weekend.

Looks like many of us are struggling this week. Hopefully we can all face the music on the scale tomorrow and then have a fresh start! We can do this!

See you tomorrow!.......P

HH coming up.

Pamela: Are you timekeeping or anything at this weekend's meet? I am about 40 min. from Springfield. I am still trying to figure out if I'm going to a Memorial Service, but I am free of homework and could use lots of tough love.

Going along with that, the QOTD: You guys are my team. :cool1:

Thank you Kayla for being this week's host! :goodvibes Remember to turn in your weight to Sue and HH to CC tomorrow.

Good evening everyone! My name is Fran and I will be your host for the week. Hoping everyone is making great progress on your weight loss journey. I know the first few weeks of this challenge were not good for me ... but I am now back on the wagon. (They should make a smilie sitting on a wagon ...)

Anyway, I will most likely post the QOTD the night before ... especially for the early birds on this thread.

Water, Water, Water also known as … Adam's ale, dihydrogen oxide, melted ice, Aqua, life liquid, … Water is SO important to healthy living.

Information from Wikipedia about Drinking Water:

The human body contains from 55% to 78% water, depending on body size.[46] To function properly, the body requires between one and seven liters of water per day to avoid dehydration; the precise amount depends on the level of activity, temperature, humidity, and other factors. Most of this is ingested through foods or beverages other than drinking straight water. It is not clear how much water intake is needed by healthy people, though most advocates agree that approximately 2 liters (6 to 7 glasses) of water daily is the minimum to maintain proper hydration.[47] Medical literature favors a lower consumption, typically 1 liter of water for an average male, excluding extra requirements due to fluid loss from exercise or warm weather.[48] For those who have healthy kidneys, it is rather difficult to drink too much water, but (especially in warm humid weather and while exercising) it is dangerous to drink too little. People can drink far more water than necessary while exercising, however, putting them at risk of water intoxication (hyperhydration), which can be fatal.[49][50] The popular claim that "a person should consume eight glasses of water per day" seems to have no real basis in science.[51] Similar misconceptions concerning the effect of water on weight loss and constipation have also been dispelled.[52]

Question of the Day:

Have you ever noticed how Disney uses water in some way or form in its movies and parks? Describe one movie scene and/or place in Disney that provides a “water” memory for you.

When I was 8, I went to Disney for the first time. It was a REALLY big deal for us as a family. Epcot had just opened up that summer and it was my first time to ride on a plane. Looking back, I know my parents had saved for a long time to provide us with this vacation.

Anyway, one of my vivid memories of that trip was the jumping water fountains in Epcot. I remembered that it stopped people in their tracks when they first saw it. My sister, brother and I spent a lot of time playing in those fountains.

I also just saw the movie Brave and the scene where she drinks from the waterfall is beautiful.

Hi everyone! I know I don't post as often as most of you do, but I feel like I've been gone forever. We had our internet turned off on the 19th, so I haven't been on since then. Can you say withdrawals? haha! But anyway, we moved out of our house and will be visiting here with my parents and family until early August when we move up to MI and settle into our own home again. This is my second challenge and this past week is the first weigh in I've ever missed (due to no internet and just crazy busy moving), but I feel so lost!! I think I've gained a bit back, booo...we've been eating nothing but restaurant food for the past week and a half and I haven't gotten much work outs in. But tomorrow I'll weigh in and my husband and I are going out early to workout before the heat sets in. So, I just wanted to say hi and I'm back in it!! :woohoo: Thanks.

I've not been around a lot today. I spent most of yesterday (its 2am in FL) taking it easy. I didn't even exercise. The only thing that really bummed me out is I didn't even eat a 1,000 calories worth of food today. Hoping to feel better when I wake up later.

I'm going onto day 4 of being on Provera and still having no issues. Hoping to hear back from the hematologist office later today. If I don't hear from them by noon, I'm going to give them a call and get a status update

Thanks Kayla for last week's questions! and Welcome Fran for this week's questions!!
QotD --- Water Memory -- this one time at Typhoon Lagoon I had an underwater camera in the wave pool and handed it off to my DD to get a shot of me (as a single mom then I was the only picture taker so not many of me in my scrapbooks) well she clicked it the first time just as a wave was coming up to my backside and I'm all smiles and waving to her then she clicked again just as the wave washed right up and over me took me right down - you can see my head just under the wave as I was floundering around under it:laughing::laughing::laughing:.. OMG sooooo funny!!!!! :rotfl2:

also in that same batch of picutres there are quite a few, like 6 or 7, with some random man - the same man in all the shots - we don't even know - but it appears like he belongs in the picutres... Haa more then one person has asked me "who's that guy" Haaaa

So my 1st week went well.. I didn't do my walking like I wanted but it's ok - slow and steady, least I did get a few in which is WAY more then normal because normal is NONE. I lost 1.6 and well on my way to meeting goal.. I do however know that week 2 is generally tough and will work a little harder to make sure I stay on track.. And I stayed within my WW points ! which I have found sometimes is hard to do..

Good luck to the rest of my new "loser" friends - I hope you have a fab weigh in this week and see you all Monday (I do not have a home computer so I am only here Mon - Fri!) :flower3:

First of all.... I somewhat agree with the water statement. I think many of us get REALLY caught up in drinking BUCKETS of water to try and help us lose weight. In reality we probably don't need so much. That said, thirst can disguise itself as hunger, so that is one KEY reason to stay well hydrated. Also, if my belly if full of liquid, I don't tend to want to snack because I feel so full. However, I don't force myself to guzzle liter after liter just because.

Second of all.... next post stole my water idea! I remember standing for like an HOUR at Epcot watching that jumping water! But if I have to come up with my OWN unique idea, I'll say finding the waterfalls in Canada in Epcot. We had never ventured very far into the countries when the kids were younger, but in 2008 I insisted we do some more looking around and was DELIGHTED to find those beautiful waterfalls! Great photo ops!

Morning all! Thread has been MOST quiet lately.... but at least that makes it easier to keep up with. I suppose folks are coming and going on vacations.

Slept well last night when the house cooled off a bit, but woke to overcast skies and humidity. Are we in for another lousy weather weekend? And this stupid humidity ruins every open package of crackers, cereal, chips, pretzels, etc in the house! :sad2:

I would like to make a nice breakfast for the family, as this may be our last family meal for the weekend, but other than eggs I'm not sure what to make. It is SO HARD to create just ONE meal for everyone with DH not eating carbs. It drives me NUTS. But I don't complain to him. I am just pleased that he seems to have found an eating plan that he can stick with for the long haul. While I don't agree with everything about Atkins, anything that can get my DH to get to a normal weight and stay there can't be all bad!

Off to see if there is enough yogurt to make parfaits! TTYL............P

:rotfl2:

That is really funny! Does your daughter remember taking the picture? I am the picture taker in my house too ... so I am not in a lot of pictures also. I need to make a point to get on the "other" side of the camera.

also in that same batch of picutres there are quite a few, like 6 or 7, with some random man - the same man in all the shots - we don't even know - but it appears like he belongs in the picutres... Haa more then one person has asked me "who's that guy" Haaaa

If you knew that, you could have introduced youself. :)

1.6 pounds is great! I find week 2 is harder, but if you stay on plan, you can do it.

I really agree with this. Since being on this thread in January, I have really paid attention to why I am hungry. There have been times I have eaten my lunch or dinner and 1/2 later I am hungry again. When I drink a cup or 2 of water, that hunger goes away.

Sorry Pam ... it is one of my favorite memories. :goodvibes I have never seen the waterfalls in Canada. I need to make a point of seeing those when we go again.

I shared a similar experience with that jumping water (although I'm quite a bit older than you). Visiting Epcot in 1983 shortly after it opened and seeing that jumping water was fascinating!

Oh my! Sounds like you have a LOT on your plate right now! Good for you for even ATTEMPTING to stay OP! Do the weigh in today and then you can start fresh!

My husband did Atkins for a while and lost a lot of weight. However, he ended up putting it back on. Now he tends to just cut back on his eating. He will eat a LOT of watermelon and strawberries when he is dieting so we have called it the "Watermelon, strawberry diet".

I tried Atkins with him at one point too ... but just couldn't stick with it. I love carbs

Water memory! Blizzard Beach...the ridiculous 90' slide...physics took over and I had the worst enema anyone can imagine...had my first ever UTI as a result...water memories and Disney are not fun for me!

 great news! Did not meet my weight loss goal but got more than half of it and with TOM here this week I still lost 3 pounds! But the greatest news is the inches! I lost 12 inches this month! A foot of fat GONE! Went ahead and measured today since it was weigh day!
Managed walking over 100 miles this month...figured most my inches would be my legs and hips..but lost everywhere kind of equally...a nice feeling!

Here's to the BL gang! If you did not meet goal...like me, make July the freedom from fat month and knock it out!! If you met goal...:cloud9: woo hoo!!!

Hi from vacation - no WI for me here, but I think I'm still steady! Partly b/c we only had 2 days on the Dream. :( DH only had 1 - he became I'll overnight on the first night of the cruise and had to be airlifted off to Nassau on our first CC day. DDs and I joined him in Nassau the next day when the ship got there. Disney was great, and DH's company was a lifesaver, too. We were so disappointed not to get our cruise, but other things are obviously so much more important. Today we fly back to Orlando to jump-start our vacation at AKL/WDW. DH is doing miles better, and we won't let this deter us from taking another Disney cruise!

The thing I'm personally so proud of (okay, 2 things) is how I held it together for DDs (had my meltdowns on my own!) and how I didn't, for once, turn to stress eating. I actually didn't have much of an appetite, so I was able to make good, healthy choices just about all the way through this.

Besides Disney and DH's company, I have to give a huge shout-out to the DIS folks, podcasters and cruisers alike. We had an amazing support system in this group, and I'll never forget those kindnesses, big and small. We are truly blessed.

XO from the Bahamas airport,
Liz

Sorry I have been MIA...things have been CRAZY around here. Reading threw the past days post I realized that we are at the end of month 1...not where I would like to be but overall a loss for the month.
DS baseball is going to be the death of me...we travel every weekend and 3 games during the week so my intensions for cooking healthier meals and finding some sort of "norm" in our house has just not happened
The next week or so is going to be very stressful as I go up against 2 other co-workers for the dept managers position and I am not sure I even want it....do I really want to give up my work from home day to oversee everyones work and deal with the drama???? and the pay increase would only be 10% from what I hear.....not sure it is worth it but if I don't do it now it may not come around again....

bummed because all the Sept plans I had hoped to be making for the family to join me in Aneheim are falling apart and I don't want to go with the staff that I am going to get stuck going with so may not even do Disneyland while I am there :scared1:

Well have to start cleaning since I took to day off to try and get stuff done for DS 8th grade grad party on Sunday....
Great to see that everyone is working hard towards their goals and having such great success!!!! Keep it up everyone!!:cheer2::cheer2:
