Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

Hi from vacation - no WI for me here, but I think I'm still steady! Partly b/c we only had 2 days on the Dream. :( DH only had 1 - he became I'll overnight on the first night of the cruise and had to be airlifted off to Nassau on our first CC day. DDs and I joined him in Nassau the next day when the ship got there. Disney was great, and DH's company was a lifesaver, too. We were so disappointed not to get our cruise, but other things are obviously so much more important. Today we fly back to Orlando to jump-start our vacation at AKL/WDW. DH is doing miles better, and we won't let this deter us from taking another Disney cruise!

The thing I'm personally so proud of (okay, 2 things) is how I held it together for DDs (had my meltdowns on my own!) and how I didn't, for once, turn to stress eating. I actually didn't have much of an appetite, so I was able to make good, healthy choices just about all the way through this.

Besides Disney and DH's company, I have to give a huge shout-out to the DIS folks, podcasters and cruisers alike. We had an amazing support system in this group, and I'll never forget those kindnesses, big and small. We are truly blessed.

XO from the Bahamas airport,
Liz

I am so sorry that you had this happen. When you look forward to something like a cruise I am sure that you are very disappointed to not being able to finish it.

How is dh doing? I am glad that you seem to have all the help you needed from people.

Good morning all! So sorry I have been MIA for awhile.. I have still been weighing in, there has just been so much going on in the past couple of weeks! I stayed steady with my weight for the last 2 weeks, but this week.........I am down almost 3lbs!! So excited about that. It is just a dent in the big goal, but it exceeded my expectaions for this week, that is for sure. :) Here's hoping for another GREAT week!! Hope you all are doing well!

My husband did Atkins for a while and lost a lot of weight. However, he ended up putting it back on. Now he tends to just cut back on his eating. He will eat a LOT of watermelon and strawberries when he is dieting so we have called it the "Watermelon, strawberry diet".

I tried Atkins with him at one point too ... but just couldn't stick with it. I love carbs

This is DH's second time around on Atkins and I'm a bit nervous as he is nearing that 2 year mark where things kind of fell apart last time. That said, he seems to be making healthier choices this time around (more fruit and veg, less bacon and "Atkins" bars etc). And he is slowly making a bit of progress toward exercise. I'm praying that he continues to be successful in getting and staying healthy, no matter what his method!

I also tried true Atkins myself a few years back. After about 7 days I was going a bit nuts! I could easily live without meat and having to eat it at every meal was not fun! That said, I did create a hybrid plan that combined WW and South Beach last year and it really helped. I have stuck somewhat with it still, but enjoy the occasional Vitamuffin, Bagel Thin, and sugary fruit. But I'm much more likely to have cheese, carrots, nuts, or fruit as a snack compared to a few years ago when I ate many more higher carb snacks like FiberOne bars, crackers, popcorn, etc.

Water memory! Blizzard Beach...the ridiculous 90' slide...physics took over and I had the worst enema anyone can imagine...had my first ever UTI as a result...water memories and Disney are not fun for me!

 great news! Did not meet my weight loss goal but got more than half of it and with TOM here this week I still lost 3 pounds! But the greatest news is the inches! I lost 12 inches this month! A foot of fat GONE! Went ahead and measured today since it was weigh day!
Managed walking over 100 miles this month...figured most my inches would be my legs and hips..but lost everywhere kind of equally...a nice feeling!

Here's to the BL gang! If you did not meet goal...like me, make July the freedom from fat month and knock it out!! If you met goal...:cloud9: woo hoo!!!

Wow! That is a LOT of inches! WTG!

Oh no!! I'm so sorry your vacation was spoiled! He must have been really sick. Prayers that he has a full recovery in time for you all to enjoy the rest of your vacation! And good for you for holding things together! Sounds like you had some support that you needed. Enjoy the remainder of your trip!

Sorry I have been MIA...things have been CRAZY around here. Reading threw the past days post I realized that we are at the end of month 1...not where I would like to be but overall a loss for the month.
DS baseball is going to be the death of me...we travel every weekend and 3 games during the week so my intensions for cooking healthier meals and finding some sort of "norm" in our house has just not happened
The next week or so is going to be very stressful as I go up against 2 other co-workers for the dept managers position and I am not sure I even want it....do I really want to give up my work from home day to oversee everyones work and deal with the drama???? and the pay increase would only be 10% from what I hear.....not sure it is worth it but if I don't do it now it may not come around again....

bummed because all the Sept plans I had hoped to be making for the family to join me in Aneheim are falling apart and I don't want to go with the staff that I am going to get stuck going with so may not even do Disneyland while I am there :scared1:

Well have to start cleaning since I took to day off to try and get stuff done for DS 8th grade grad party on Sunday....
Great to see that everyone is working hard towards their goals and having such great success!!!! Keep it up everyone!!:cheer2::cheer2:

Crazy life with kids sports? I can totally relate! Have you thought about pulling out the crockpot? Healthy in the crockpot can be tough, but it is possible. Also, give yourself a break and try to be okay with sandwich nights and the like. I was brought up (as was DH) that you MUST have a real dinner EVERY night, so I went years and NEVER allowed a sandwich night or anything like that. But I am making life a bit easier and not insisting that every dinner must be a full, hot meal!

Good luck with the job situation, no matter ehat you decide.

*********

Off to shower and get this day into high gear! Woke with a headache and still have it, so I have not moved to quickly this morning. but took some Advil with the last of the coffee, so hopefully will feel better soon. Leaving here at 1pm with DD for the 2.5 hour drive to Springfield. Will probably stay at my Mom's tonight, as she is only 45 minutes from this venue. Then tomorrow Mom will come to the meet and take DD home with her at the end of the day, as I need to rush home and meet DH for a concert date.:) then Sunday morning I will drive to Mom's , grab DD, and return to Springfield for the last day of the meet. Wish driving burned more calories!

Good morning all!

Thank you, Kayla, for coaching last week! :thanks:

And a big BL welcome to our new coach this week, Fran! :welcome:

QOTD Thursday: One of my favorite things about Epcot is Illuminations. Epcot itself is a celebration of all cultures coming together and celebrating each others unique differences and lifestyles. Illuminations reminds us when we work together we can achieve the impossible and make the world a better place. In your journey to health are you more of a team player, or do you do better alone? Do you belong to a sports team, have a workout group, or attend WW meetings? Since we are all here on the BL thread, I assume we are at least a bit of a team player and do better with encouragement from others!

This thread and my Princesses princess: are my support group. Ultimately I know that it up to me to do what needs to be done but it is nice to have people riding along in the wagon. :goodvibes

My husband is probably my biggest support and cheerleader, he buys me the right foods, and he stands in the kitchen with me when I do my weekly weigh-ins.

You are a brave soul having your DH with you at weigh in! :teeth:

Hi Susan! :wave2: Nice to see you! Glad the kitties are doing well. I'm going to DL in two weeks. PM me your address if you would like me to mail you some updated maps. I always think of you when I am at Wine Country Trattoria at DCA. :cool2:

Thanks, Pamela! :flower3: Hope things are going well for you, too. It's just been crazy busy here. DH is doing kid transport in the mornings so I can go and work out. That really cuts into my Dis time! :rotfl: But I needed that. I was not very happy when I saw my pictures from my race last month. I looked a lot bigger than I did at the Tink even though I weighed less. :confused3

Sorry the MIL book project is getting to be a drag. Can you get some other folks to help with the pages?

I guess I'm about half and half. I like to have this community, the ww community and I really enjoy exercising at a zumba or RIPPED class. Yet, I do alot of planning and reading about this journey in solitude. I couldn't wait for someone to begin a journey with me, so I began alone, but I've met great people on their own journey along the way. And one of my friends is now going to zumba too.

Michelle, you've had some great success so what you are doing is working great for you! ::yes::

Can I be a little bit of both, lol? I attend WW meetings, and they are incredible for me - so motivating, a great group that really cares for one another, an AMAZING leader, seriously, she's just one of a kind. I have a group of three ladies that we are all *determined* that this time is THE time to reach all of our get healthy goals, and we call and text each other daily to see how we're doing, share tips, just check in. Plus, of course, there's this group that I enjoy very much - the sharing, the qotd and the quotes are wonderful.

::yes::

CC, love the HH! :thumbsup2

Question of the Day:

Have you ever noticed how Disney uses water in some way or form in its movies and parks? Describe one movie scene and/or place in Disney that provides a “water” memory for you.

This is a great YouTube shot by the fabulous Disboards team of the World of Color show with the new glow Mickey ears that glow in sync with the show. Can't wait to see that!

Hi Lynda! Nice to see you, too! Glad the move is going well. You're doing a great job hanging on in spite of the chaos. Keep up the good work! :thumbsup2

Kristina, glad your meds aren't giving you any troubles! :)

Michelle, congrats on a great loss this week! :goodvibes

Pretty good guess for someone who has never seen the movie!

Not seen the Nightmare Before Christmas? :faint: It is a very cute movie. You'll have to see it this Fall.

Managed walking over 100 miles this month...figured most my inches would be my legs and hips..but lost everywhere kind of equally...a nice feeling!

:woohoo: Great job on the mileage! :yay:

Liz, I'm so sorry to hear about your DH being ill. How scary for you! I'm glad that he is doing better and that you can continue at WDW. I think some frou-frou drinks and sitting with your toes in the sand is in order. :beach:

Jen, busy, busy times at your house. Hang in there! :flower3:

Dona, has your summer class started yet? :teacher:

Woo hoo, Holly, on your great loss this week!

Janis, isn't it time to do WIN! measurements?

I am a samer this week but everything feels like it is smaller so that is a good thing.

Have a great day all!

Ack it's a toss up. I love the use of water in Illuminations, it is so great! I also like the use of water in the splash scene in Philharmagic. I love the details that Disney pays attention too.

A Water themed quote for the Day

A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor

QOTD: I would have to say that my best water memory is from California Adventure last year. We went for DH's bday and rode on Grizzly River Run about 5 times in a row. This was in the beginning of March so there was no line and they just let us keep going without having to get out and get in line again. Now keep in mind we are all in our late 20s and acting like a bunch of 12-13 year olds. :lmao: My DH and mom did not go on the ride with us, but they did get some awesome pictures. It was such a blast to be able to act like kids and be carefree for a day.

Regarding QOTD: I'd say my water memory is Philharmagic and that little splash as well as kali river rapids at animal kingdom. Can't wait till I can take Zoe for a park hopping week. She's only been to Magic Kingdom(twice) and Sea World(twice also). One of my strongest memories of water and Florida is Daytona Beach when I was 10 though oddly I don't recall as much from Disney back then.

After a gain last week I was down I think 3.6 lbs. I didn't track really which I'm ashamed of I just can't seem to get consistent with it. I didn't do any "formal" exercise though I did have a 6 hour volunteer shift on my feet which I am not used to at all. And then that same night we went swimming. I think the majority of the loss is unfortunately water weight.

Afternoon everyone!

I'm still sick, BOO!! I woke up with hardly any voice and my throat still hurting. Luckily I'm not coughing as much, so there is some good in that. I'm going to wait and weigh in on Sunday like I did last week. I'm not working out and I'm eating very little these last few days. I'm making sure to hit my water count. Alan bought me some Gatorade so I might open one later and drink it.

The weather has finally cleared up here and it was a nice day. Here's to hoping I'm better by Sunday. I want to go to Disney. I'm having withdrawls :)

:grouphug: oh my dear! So so sorry for your husband's health, but so happy he is feeling better! We are cruising in September so now I am def. going to buy trip insurance!! You held it together and deserve a great reward, hope you can all get a cruise in soon!

For all those missing in action...:grouphug: you are doing great to come back and check in! Here is to a fresh restart and losing days ahead!

Woohoo! Just discovered wifi here at this pool! Just made my day tomorrow much more bearable!

DD is having a great night. She is lined up for her last swim, so hopefully I'll be out of here in the next hour.

Didn't make the BEST choice for lunch, as I let my hunger do the talking, so dinner wil have to be better. Wore my sneakers to be able to walk tonight but it is just too hot.

Off to video the swim!.......P

That sounds like a lot of fun. We had a similar experience in a local park here called Kennywood. We have a ride that is very similar to the Kali River Rapids. I usually never ride it since I hate walking around the park wet. Well .. that day there was a light rain ALL day long. The day was very hot too and a lot of people left the park. The next thing I knew my husband said let's ride the Raging Rapids. We were wet so it didn't make any difference. We rode it over and over again. My boys had a blast riding with us. They kept trying to get me to sit where the waterfall hits you. I got it a few times. We had so much fun that day too. Thanks for sharing! :goodvibes

Summertime reminds me of fruit ….

Some “Fruit Facts” from Wikipedia - Nutritional value

Fruits are generally high in fiber, water, vitamin C and sugars, although this latter varies widely from traces as in lime, to 61% of the fresh weight of the date.[31] Fruits also contain various phytochemicals that do not yet have an RDA/RDI listing under most nutritional factsheets, and which research indicates are required for proper long-term cellular health and disease prevention. Regular consumption of fruit is associated with reduced risks of cancer, cardiovascular disease (especially coronary heart disease), stroke, Alzheimer disease, cataracts, and some of the functional declines associated with aging.[32]
Diets that include a sufficient amount of potassium from fruits and vegetables also help reduce the chance of developing kidney stones and may help reduce the effects of bone-loss. Fruits are also low in calories which would help lower one's calorie intake as part of a weight-loss diet.[33]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fruit

Question of the Day (June 30): What kind of fruit do you buy/eat? Are there some fruits you love and some you hate? And here is a challenge for the day …. Eat at least two different fruits today and try to do something different with one of them. (For example, mix some watermelon juice with some unsweetened tea, or make a fruit salad.) Share if you tried something different.

Yay! I got this! I had watermelon for breakfast and blueberries for my mid afternoon snack! The only difference is that I took the time to cut up the watermelon into slices so I don't eat as much and with blueberries...instead of popping them into a pan of muffins I ate them raw! :)
I love Rainier cherries, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, and I make myself eat a banana a week, I get low potassium so I look at berries as a way to fuel my body not like in the past as an excuse to eat a stick of butter/cups of sugar in a cobbler!! :) Oooh, but peach cobbler is sooo good! :) But, until I reach goal, they will be my in between snacks...I count out 15 blueberries and about 10 bites of watermelon....they really do the trick! :)

I buy bananas, frozen blueberries, frozen strawberries, kiwis (occasionally). I've discovered I don't like pears. I wasn't very adventorous growing up so there are many fruits I've never tried before.

Good Saturday morning everyone.

Ds2 came home on Thursday for the weekend. His 22nd birthday is today. We decided to get him a phone with a data plan for his birthday. It is something he has wanted but with being on a tight budget he didn't know if he could afford paying us for the plan each month. He just found out that he is getting an additional scholarship so he can pay for it. But the problem is that his phone is not due for an upgrade until Sept so he will wait until then to get his new phone.

A major water main break in the county we live in. We are under water restriction on the hottest weekend of the year. I think we even have to boil the water but that was not mentioned in the phone call we got last night. I want to go out and get some water but I have a feeling the stores will all be bought out. I guess I will have to stick to iced tea. At least that is a reason for the water to be boiled.

Eat at least two different fruits today and try to do something different with one of them. (For example, mix some watermelon juice with some unsweetened tea, or make a fruit salad.) Share if you tried something different.

I love almost all fruits. I love all sorts of melons. I always buy bananas for smoothies,. I always have blueberries in the freezer. I usually pick about 25 ponds this time of year and put them in the freezer. I haven't gone this year. Ds2 came home a couple odf weeks ago with two big tupperware containers of blueberries for me that he had picked with his gf. SO I have been buying containers from the local shops and adding to the frozen ones he has bought.

Stay cool everyone.

Have a happy and healthy day.

I tend to eat more veggies than fruit, but I average 2-3 servings of fruit per day, mostly lower sugar fruits...a habit I picked up when trying to watch my carbs. I try to eat in season and local and organic whenever possible. I love most all fruits....prefer apples, berries, melon, mango. I don't drink juice, as I prefer to eat my calories.

Can't do anything special today with fruit, as I am at Mom's this a.m., at swim this afternoon, and at a concert with DH tonight. But I'll keep the idea in mind for later this week.

I want to go out and get some water but I have a feeling the stores will all bebought out. I guess I will have to stick to iced tea. At least that is a reason for the water to be boiled.

Happy birthday to Michael Phelps! DD's future husband turns 27 today!:rotfl:

Here at Mom's this morning. Slept okay. Will have breakfast and pack up and then visit with the folks a bit. Will leave here about noon. That will get us to the pool early, but we ran late yesterday and it made DD NUTS!

DD had three swims and three best times last night! Tonight is the 800 free relay that has an outside chance of making a nationals time and tomorrow is the 400 medley relay that is their best shot at a nationals cut.

Off to get coffee!...........P

Love - Bananas, watermelon, canned peaches (I know not the best for ya), Macoun apples, MacIntosh apples, cantaloupe, pineapple, strawberries, oranges (if they are really juicy).

Hate - pears, honeydew, grapefruit, kiwi.

Sorry to hear about the water main break. That is horrible!

Off to empty the storage unit today. Saving me $165 a month.

Need to weigh in too. can't forget!

Yay!

I LOVE Rainier cherries. They are my favorite. I have to hide them from my family. As soon as they are in the house, they are gone my the end of the day!

And I too love cobblers .... I am also avoiding them until I reach my goal.

I buy bananas, frozen blueberries, frozen strawberries, kiwis (occasionally). I've discovered I don't like pears. I wasn't very adventorous growing up so there are many fruits I've never tried before.

My mom never had much fruit around either. She still is not a healthy cook ... but she is better than when we were younger. I have a funny story about kiwis ... A friend of our family always bought us a box of fruit for Christmas. It was usually oranges or apples and were always delicious. However, one Christmas a box of kiwis came. We had NEVER seen a kiwi (this was in the early 80s when tropical fruits weren't in your grocery stores that often). All of us looked at the fruit, felt it, smelled it ... but no one would eat it ... UNTIL my dad ate one. He didn't tell us how good they were but we noticed they were being eaten rather fast. So he shared one piece with us and the whole box was gone in a day! :lmao: The funny part is we would beg to have these and my mother refused to buy them when they were in season. They were TOO expensive!

Hey you never know .... :goodvibes My cousin is married to a gold medal swimmer. Last year when we visited them my husband asked to see his gold medal. Pretty cool item to see.

Thanks! Care to be a name dropper regarding who the swimmer is?

We had two Olympic swimmers do a clinic with our kids a few years ago, so of course they brought their medals...I believe they brought 3-4 gold and a silver, if I remember correctly. The kids got to see and touch them!

Here at the pool again. We arrived at 1:10 for DD's 1:45 warm up only to find they had changed the schedule and DD didn't warm up until almost 2:15....and the meet started 45 minutes late. so there is no way I'll be able to stay to the end to see her relay and still make the concert that is 2.5 hours away. Oh well.

Off to watch the swimming that has finally started!..........P

Hey losers! I'm back from the color run and posted a couple photos on the BL Walker/Runner thread if you want to check them out!

A confession from me is that even though I lost a good number this week I've been weak on exercise and been indulging in sweets way too much. I'm honestly very shocked I didn't gain last week and need to get in gear.

Also another update is I found out my schedule for work for July and let's just round it up with the word: EEEEEK!! I'm scheduled a lot, which is good for money, bad for DIS time. So, if you don't see me around here as often again this month, you know why. By the time school rolls around things should settle, but I guess it's better to be busy than bored!

Have a fabulous evening, losers! :goodvibes
