Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

I've slept 15 of the last 24 hours today. I called my mom because (TMI) my mucus wasn't clear but a tanish beige color. Mom called me while she was on break from work (she's a RN). She asked me about my symptoms and yada yada and basically told me, "You don't have strep, didn't throw a blood clot (big concern considering I have 6 in my lungs), and it just sounds like a common cold. Drink some hot tea with lemon, take some meds, and go back to bed. Oh, and up your water intake". So I did what she said and just woke up from sleeping another 3 hours. Alan is off grocery shopping and more then likely he'll come home and we'll have sandwiches. All I've had today besides water is chicken broth and tea. I need to get something with substance in me so I can take my meds. I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I'm ready to feel human again, :).

I'm sorry you feel so bad Kristina. Summer colds are the worst!!
We've been battling them here too. the kids are finally starting to feel normal again. I ended up on a Z-pac.

If you aren't any better by Monday you need to see the DR.

Thanks! Care to be a name dropper regarding who the swimmer is?

His name is John Hargis. He is now the head coach at Penn State. A really great guy, husband and dad. He knows a few of the swimmers who are qualifying for the Olympics.

We had two Olympic swimmers do a clinic with our kids a few years ago, so of course they brought their medals...I believe they brought 3-4 gold and a silver, if I remember correctly. The kids got to see and touch them!

Here at the pool again. We arrived at 1:10 for DD's 1:45 warm up only to find they had changed the schedule and DD didn't warm up until almost 2:15....and the meet started 45 minutes late. so there is no way I'll be able to stay to the end to see her relay and still make the concert that is 2.5 hours away. Oh well.

Off to watch the swimming that has finally started!..........P

Good luck to your daughter!

Hey losers! I'm back from the color run and posted a couple photos on the BL Walker/Runner thread if you want to check them out!

A confession from me is that even though I lost a good number this week I've been weak on exercise and been indulging in sweets way too much. I'm honestly very shocked I didn't gain last week and need to get in gear.

Also another update is I found out my schedule for work for July and let's just round it up with the word: EEEEEK!! I'm scheduled a lot, which is good for money, bad for DIS time. So, if you don't see me around here as often again this month, you know why. By the time school rolls around things should settle, but I guess it's better to be busy than bored!

Have a fabulous evening, losers! :goodvibes

Kayla, I am going to have to check you out on that thread. I think I am going to run the race. If you can travel 2.5 hours to get there, I can make one hour!

Colds can really make you feel terrible. I agree with Buffy, if you don't feel better by Monday, I would go see the doctor. Get better soon.

July is the seventh month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian Calendars and one of seven months with the length of 31 days. It is, on average, the warmest month in most of the Northern hemisphere (where it is the second month of summer) and the coldest month in much of the Southern hemisphere (where it is the second month of winter). The second half of the year commences in July. In the Southern hemisphere, July is the seasonal equivalent of January in the Northern hemisphere.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/July

Question of the Day (July 1): I think most of the BL participants live in the Northern Hemisphere (If you don’t I would love to know where you are from). So ... July is a HOT, HOT month. Since exercise is so important to a healthy life style (not just for losing weight), how do you adjust for the heat when you exercise? Do you do other activities that you typically don’t do in the winter months?

Well ... I didn't have the best of days eating wise, UGH! But I did have kiwi today and watermelon. I made watermelon balls and had a side of lite Cool-Whip. I took this to my book club tonight. Something that was a healthier choice. Someone made a watermelon salad and it was really good also.

Since I am off during the summer months, I have been exercising after I take my son to work (7AM). I have been jogging on our local new track (It is beautiful). Since we have large trees around the track and it is located right near the river, there is a cool breeze that blows and the track is partly shaded. I choose this over the walking trail. It is just too hot to run there. I have also been bringing a bottle of water to the track. I try to run for the first 1/2 hour then drink the water while I walk the second 1/2 hour.

I also love to swim during the summer. I can't say it is really exercise since it is just for fun to cool off. But, I am moving around when I am in the pool.

I'm usually either in my swimming pool or exercising indoors. I really don't like being out in the heat when it comes to exercise.

-----

BAMB -- The plan is if I'm not better by Monday I'm going in to see the doctor. Hopefully she won't be that busy Monday and I can get in. I know there probably isn't going to be a whole lot she can do but I'd really like her to check my throat. Its sore when I swallow and/or cough real hard. I've been sucking on cough drops like they're candy (even though I cant stand the darn things.) Luckily, the Delysm has been helping with at least letting me sleep at night. I take it and about 20 minutes later I can barely keep my eyes open. And on that not, its 230 in the morning. I'm going to take some and go to bed. Let's see how many hours I'm going to sleep today. :)

Well, it hit 107 yesterday, broke 80 year records! My house has a hard time cooling below 80...so I do my treadmill 3 miles in the morning then again at night time...it gets too hot to swim! But, I am teaching two girls to swim am hour each morning this week, so that is some exercise as well...key is to stay hydrated!!!

It was 104 here yesterday and 102 the day before. The swimming pool is becoming a great place to get some exercise. :)

Good morning all! :wave2:

Melissa, nice to see you! Congrats on the great loss! :cool1:

For all those missing in action...:grouphug: you are doing great to come back and check in! Here is to a fresh restart and losing days ahead!

:thumbsup2

Pamela, good luck to your DD at her swim meet! :fish:

Fran, those Mickey ears that glow in sync with World of Color are brand new and a sign of things to come. They apparently glow in sync with the Mad T Party at DCA as well as in Carsland. I'm sure they will expand them to other parks. DL is my home park and if you had come there when I was working there I would have sewn your name on the Mickey Mouse Ears for you! :smickey:

Fran, I love the Mickey watermelon picture you found!

This is the time of year that I start really enjoying fresh berries. Apples, bananas, oranges, you can reliably get year round. You can get berries, too, but they are so much more expensive in the off season. :faint: The only fruit I really do not like is mango, papaya and grapefruit. :confused3

For my new fruit taste I had blood orange mimosa -- champagne and blood orange juice. Yummy! :thumbsup2 And only 95 calories!

Happy birthday to your DS, Dona! Hope the water situation improves soon!

Woo hoo on saving on the storage unit, Buffy! :woohoo: I'm loving the new Disboards app, too.

Hey losers! I'm back from the color run and posted a couple photos on the BL Walker/Runner thread if you want to check them out!

So glad you had a great time at the Color Run, Kayla! Sorry for the busy work schedule but it will help the old checkbook balance! ::yes::

Posting from the new DIS app, love it!!
Will check to see what my post looks like on the computer tomorrow.

Looks just like a regular post! :goodvibes

Summer has just barely arrived here -- sorry to all you folks who are sweltering in the heat. :flower3: We get a ton of rain every spring. :umbrella: I really enjoy finally being comfortably outside and running. I go out very, very early in the a.m. so I don't have to worry about heat. I lived in Arizona for many years so I do appreciate having enjoyable summer temps.

Wow that is hot! :sunny: Plus I bet it is very humid, too. Hope things break a bit soon.

Another busy day getting ready for another week. It is going to be kind of odd having the 4th smack dab in the middle of the week.

Have a great day all!

Right now I'm trying to get outside workouts in early, use the treadmill because it's in the basement, and make sure the AC is on in the boys room when I use the Wii.
I've just really started exercising consistently so I can't really answer for the winter months. Lat winter I used the treadmill.

I don't belong to a gym and I don't have A/C. During hot days, I live in our pool. I walk or jog laps while using resistance gloves or water weights. I try to also go for a walk around 8 Pm, but my dog is old (10 year old Dane) so if it's still hot and humid, we don't go.

Question of the Day:

Have you ever noticed how Disney uses water in some way or form in its movies and parks? Describe one movie scene and/or place in Disney that provides a “water” memory for you.

Water memories at Disney: Splash Mountain & Grizzley River Rapids are always a good time, and even more fun when experiencing with my kids as they get older. World of Color is just amazing and awesome to watch.

I buy apples, bananas, kiwi, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, cherries, watermelon, canteloupe, pears, peaches... pretty much any fruit that is not super expensive. I myself don't really care for pears but my family will eat them. I eat an apple and banana every day, the other fruit is like a special treat as I don't have it as often.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, it isn't really ever TOO hot. In fact, some think it's too chilly. Today's high is supposed to be 65. But even on those hot days, I go to exercise class. I try to stay hydrated and we figure, the more we sweat the more fat we're losing. :) Now that I'm not embarassed to be seen in a swimsuit, I think I'll probably spend more time in the pool than in past summers when I stayed in the lounge chair while my kids swam.

I feel your pain. It was 105 here yesterday, and 105 again today. It is nasty. We don't even get in the pool in the middle of the day--it's too hot! I'm sorry about your ac. The best thing we did--put in a new one last summer. Otherwise, I know ours would have died by now. Hopefully this will break soon!

Can't wait to pop over and see the pix!

I'm confessing that my exercise has been very lacking lately too.

Take care of yourself while you are so busy! The bank account will be happy though!

Lots of fluids, tea with honey (natural antibiotic properties) and lemon, and rest, rest, rest! That's what you need! Take care.

Okay....I got excited when I saw the app, but apparently I am too stupid to figure out how to post from the app....:confused3. Wanna help?

in the past I've just tried hard to be sure to exercise very early in the day or else hit the air conditioned Y. I've run outside in some pretty crazy hot conditions without any real problems, but try to be smart. If I am at the pool with the kids I try to do water walking/jogging. Keeps me cool and keeps me with the kids...just have to be sure to apply plenty of sunscreen on the shoulders!

*******

Hola friends! Here at the pool again! Concert last night was fun, but all of this driving is nuts! Hot here as well, but sending cooling thoughts to those of you experiencing 100+ temps. I don't mind the heat too much, but I've experienced 110+ in the sourhwest a few years ago and it is :scared1:

Regarding yesterday's QOTD....I ate fresh organic blueberries, straight from the bush, still warm from the sun yesterday.....how's that for something different?:)
DD and I were picking from my Dad's early bushes yesterday after breakfast....mmmmm! Can't beat that!

DD has her 100 M freestyle coming up. She really needs a good time for this. Wearing her tech suit, drank her Gatorade (ick), well rested, and psyched to swim...fingers crossed! Will be back in a few minutes!........P

Oh my gosh! DD is on fire this weekend! She just had a PB in her 200 backstroke...dropped 9 seconds after a PB in this event last weekend at Harvard!

Fingers crossed that she can keep it up for their relay!

iPad power is down to 33% so I'm gonna shut down for now to save power to video the race later. TTYL.......P

It's July 1 already - time for the first WIN! "Measure-in". Send those numbers in!!!:banana:

I love pretty much every fruit I've eve eaten! I know this was yesterday's question, but I did have two fruits today. My local TCBY is one of those self-serve places now, and they have pineapple crush flavor made by DOLE!!!! It's my own personal Dole Whip Machine!!!! So I got some of that with strawberry and kiwi slices-so delicious!

I take a lot of my stuff inside, or early in the morning before the heat really gets to be too much. I also like to go swimming at friend's pools (I don't have one of my own :() I also make sure to drink as much water as I can if I do anything outside.

******************
So I just have to share, I took my DM to go see Beauty and The Beast Live last night and it was incredible! The show was amazing, the sets were beautiful, and the costumes were magnificent! Lumiere was so funny :lmao:and the Wardrobe was just hilarious. The Lion King is coming to town in August and I think I'll have to take my sister to that. If it comes to your town, you should definitely go. because it's so worth the ticket!!!
