Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

Hi Everyone - I am back from vacation and up 2.5 lbs.. but I expected a gain so it's ok..

I start my Zumba classes this week on Tues and Thurs, 1 hour each night (4-5pm or 4:30-5:30pm).. does anyone have any advise for me as to eating on those days -- I will have Bfast around 8am and lunch is normally at noon - should I be snacking on something like string cheese and/or fruit around 3ish? I just don't want to be starving or have a full stomach where I am not used to any kinds of physical activity.. then when i get home around 6 I'll be having dinner

Thanks Michelle

I take a circuit training or spinning class at 4:30. Around 3 I eat something light like fruit, cheese, yogurt. Then I eat dinner when I get home. Once, I ate popcorn at Target before class. Needless to say, that did not go well as I was doing an exercises & squats lol. The trainer teased me for awhile after that mistake! Have fun with Zumba!

I have a quick 15 minute workout I do in the hotel room. Pushups, planks, squats, lunges, etc. I can work up a good sweat in those 15 minutes. Last trip, that 15 minute x 3 days plus walking plus Expedition Everest Challenge and I came home a pound down! :thumbsup2
great job on the pound!!! What is Expedition Everest Challenge?

Crunches, squats, modified push ups, and swimming laps (weather permitting and the pool isn't crowded).

Now that we live close I'm going to start packing my dumb bells in my bag.
Whereabouts do you live? We live about 3 hours away. I just let my dumbells ride in backseat :rotfl: just kidding.

I really don't exercise at Disney. I figure I walk enough lol. If we are on any other vacation, I do get up early & go running. I don't have any Disney exercises. I may try to find some later, though!
Disney makes everything a bit more fun. And I think any weather is yummy soup weather, especially paired with homemade bread.

Aside fom walking, how else do you get exercise at Disney? Or do you have a special disney related exercise you do? For instance I have Toy Story on Wii. When I am needing exercise and a shot of Disney, I pop that in and play off the pounds.

I usually hit the swimming pool and try to do laps early in the morning.

My new favorite snack: Cilantro and Jalapeno Hummus from Trader Joe's with raw zucchini and carrot sticks. YUM! :lovestruc

I'm not a jalapeño fan, so I probably wpuldn't care for it, but I'll bet DS would. ;) Have you ever tried jicama with hummus? I cut it into sticks like carrots. They are GREAT with hummus.

Nope. My time at Disney is too short and too precious. I definitely do commando-style touring and there is no time in the schedule for exercise. That said, the way we tour and the number of hours we spend in the parks, we walk many, many miles!

I did a "walk to Disney" challenge a while ago here on the WISH board. That was kind of fun.

Things going well here on vacation. Splurged on a muffin for breakfast...it wasn't big, but it wasn't "light" either. Gonna have to be careful the rest of the day it I don't want to go way over for the day. I'd like to have a few calories to sample tonight's blueberry peach crisp (made with my Dad's homegrown berries). :thumbsup2

Off to go find a buddy to kayak with me! ..........P

I love the pools at Disney, they are the perfect temperature.

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet. (btw if its been more than 1 week between weigh-ins, then the % loss is divided by the number of weeks, to keep everybody on the same basis)

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 8?

NOW FOR THOSE OF US WHO SET A GOAL FOR THE CHALLENGE!!!

NOTE: This list includes participants who have reported in within the last 3 weeks, once someone misses 3 weigh-ins they are dropped from this report.

How this works: You set your goal for what you want to lose in the challenge. Then I calculate your weight loss in the challenge divided by your goal to get a % to goal.

Anybody can change their goal at anytime (or add a goal) – all you have to do is send me a PM.

Since the goals are an individual thing, the list is just in alphabetical order to make it easier for everybody to find their own name. If there are any questions or suggestions please let me know.

We have done 8 out of 13 weeks, so the challenge is 62% complete.

And holy smokes, July is coming to a close!! I'm not ready for August or back to school :( I start back Aug 27 and my kids start Aug 29. Noooooo!!! We decided we are definitely going to do a camping trip next week. It's a good way to end our summer.

Jill

I start back August 16th .... sigh. My students start back August 23rd. I have a lot to get done before then and all my sons' activities are ramping up. Just finished shopping with my oldest for his college supplies. They are all sitting in my living room. He is not a shopper and it was painful for both of us! :lmao:

Aside fom walking, how else do you get exercise at Disney? Or do you have a special disney related exercise you do? For instance I have Toy Story on Wii. When I am needing exercise and a shot of Disney, I pop that in and play off the pounds.

I am like Pam at Disney. I want to see everything ... so we tour on a schedule. I really don't put time in for exercising. However, my goal is to run a Disney race the next time I go ... :goodvibes. Today I ran 3 miles without stopping! I then walked 2 more miles. The 3 miles took me a little over 30 minutes (my ipod went dead so I am not totally sure). Working my way up. Planning on running a the Pittsburgh 1/2 marathon in May. Hoping I can do it by then.

Here we celebrate our progress and recognize our superstars.

:cheer2: Way to go everyone! And a big congrats to Buffy!

Congrats to Buffy:yay::yay::yay: Great job this week!

Count me in with those who don't do any exercise other than walking at DW.
But when we go on Disney cruises, we take advantage of the gym equipment and gym classes and take the stairs everywhere we go. A lot more food to work off on the cruise;)

I am reading Fit2Fat2Fit right now...interesting!

Our little family of 3 has been discussing how to reduce our food bill. We are going to have a "contest" the month of August to see if we can limit our spending on all food and drink to $600. Yes, I do realize this is a pretty generous amount but it breaks down to less than $20 per day to feed 3 people 3 meals and snacks. I have a lot of ideas though. We promised DS any leftover $. He just wants everyone to order from the Mc $ menu:rotfl: DS will be out of town about 10 days so that should make things easier too. We also plan to use only cash since we are using our cc way too much to eat out. Will be interesting to see how we do and I hope it gets the guys more into meal planning and prep.

Shawnprincess:

WOOHOO!!!! Thanks everyone!! I have been waiting for that Woosh for forever!!!! LOL

I did how ever have a set back this weekend and a big ol' lesson.
First, if you eat clean for a week and then eat what ever you want over the weekend, you will pay for it.

Set back - eating processed food and too many carbs but not enough fruit (ran out) and eating out. Also sugar. I've been pretty good about not eating sugar until this weekend.

Lesson - Your stomach will rebel! I have been so sick last night and this morning. Bloated, lethargic, migraines, and the shakes. You name it, I have it. Once it's out of your system, do not put it back in!!!!

Also, if you are trying to eat clean and measure and weigh all of your food, don't let your kids cook breakfast for you and serve it in bed. No matter how sweet of a gesture it is.

Tomorrow is a new day though. I need to hit the store after I drop DS16 off to run so I can restock the fridge with fruit. I'm hankering for watermelon.

I hope everyone has a good day tomorrow!

Shawnprincess:

Must be the time of year for thinking about the budget. I was also contemplating a "cash only" grocery month for August. Not sure how accurate it will be as we start the month on vacation, but you gotta start somewhere. I can honestly say I have no idea what we spend a month on food...I'm embarrassed to admit that. We don't spend a lot on eating out...mostly quick Dunkins type snacks as we travel around, back and forth to swim, etc. A full family meal out is pretty rare and we virtually never get take out to bring home ( other than the occasional pizza for DS;) ). No restaurants in our town isn't always a bad thing.

**********

Evening all! Beautiful day here today! Had a close encounter with a loon while out kayaking. It was so cool. They are HUGE birds! We've always enjoyed their calls during the night and early morning hours while on vacation and this year is no different. It is a special "vacation" sound.

Tried to be good today but it was super hard. Probably ate about 1/2 C of the crisp tonight with about 2 Tb of ice cream....MMmM good!

My baby girl turns 17 tomorrow! So 17 years ago right now I was in some pretty significant pain! She was born at 12:37 a.m. But so worth it ( which I try to remember during her "teen" moments). Got special crockpot French toast cooking for breakfast.

Off to read a bit before I crash! TTYL.........P

Oops.... Missed a quote...

Three years ago I lost my mind and decided I wanted to become a mom all over again. Today is my lil princesses 3rd birthday. So in honor of her birthday, everybody gets to make a wish. No wishing for weightloss, that is a given. So close your eyes, blow out an imaginary candle, and share your wishes.

There is also a party game involved. The ABC's of Disney. See if we can get thru all 26 letters of the alphabet using disney characters. For example A might be Alice, B might be Belle or Beast, C for Cinderella, and so on. I hope you all participate, it makes it more fun.

I'll start :) A for Alice

Shawn, we have been trying to do the cash only bit for everything lately. It's hard but it sure does make you think about what you are buying and coming up with alternatives for fresh veggies. We've been hitting the farmers markets a lot lately trying to get better deals and local produce.
We've also been eating out a lot lately, not using a CC but our debit card, so easy to whip out, too easy!

Pamela, tell DD I said HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I just texted DS to text her at lunch today. He's off to his first day of work so I told him not to text while working, we'll see if he listen. LOL

******************************

Starting off today well. We all over slept so we didn't make 6am practice but I got up at 8, and feel rested. I had oatmeal and water for breakfast, now I will go clean a bit. I might go for a quick run after lunch.
It is a glorious day today!! 75º and dry, no humidity!!

I hope everyone has a great day!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY little one!!! Oh 3, I loved DD at 3, it is such a great age!!!

My Wish would be.......... That my kids stay healthy and lead active lives into their adulthood. We were actually talking about this yesterday, how they all have aspirations is health and wellness. DS16 wants to be a chef, DS11 wants to be a massage therapist/acupuncturist/chiropractor, DS10 is really into martial arts so he might have a job doing that, and DD6 has become my dietitian. They were talking about starting their own fitness resort, it was funny.

B is for Bernard and Bianca

My wish is to get into nursing school this coming spring so I can get my RN and move to Florida. I have only a few more weeks to get everything together and submit my application and it's pretty nerve-wracking...I need all the wishes I can get!

And I'll pick D for Donald!

F for Figment!

Full college scholarship for BOTH my kids so that they don't have to start their adult lives in debt is my big wish (assuming we are talking about tangibles). DVC membership for myself!

Happy Tuesday all! Something went terribly wrong with the crockpot French toast and I woke up at 2:30 am to the smell of something burning. In just 4 hours on low the crockpot burned its contents to the point of smoking! If it wasn't MY crockpot I would say it was defective... But I love this crockpot and have never had trouble with it. So at 6:30 am I quickly decorated a bit for the birthday girl and then dashed to the store to buy more eggs and bread to make traditional French toast for everyone for breakfast, as I had used it all in the crockpot.....very frustrating way to start my day!i skipped the French toast myself and had an 80 cal yogurt with fresh Maine wild blueberries that my nephew picked yesterday.

Skipped this morning's run due to the breakfast problems, but I'll go out kayaking later.

Another beautiful day here at camp.....sunny, breezy, dry. No complaints. :)

Ad battery is low and the sunshine is calling. TTFN
