Z for Zazu! We finished!

Morning all! Rainy night, but clearing today. Forced myself out for a run despite a big case of "exercise apathy" this morning. But the guilt of a few glasses of wine and a serving of dessert got the better of me and so I strapped on the sneakers. Not sure what is on the menu for tonight (my aunt is cooking), but my DSIL is cooking tomorrow (burgers on the grill night) and offered to provide a veggie burger for me, which I appreciate.

I'll probably do a bit of scrapping today and then kayak this afternoon. The men are golfing and fishing.

Not much else to say I guess. I'll be back later to answer the QOTD...........P

OK todays question of the day is going to tickle your memories. What is the first ride at a Disney park that you remember going on?

Mine I think was the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. I loved the tea cups. My DS remembers his first ride as being Mullholland Madness at California Adventure. For the lil princess it was It's a Small World this past May at Disney World.

oh great question.... my first memory would be 2000 Leagues..:)

It's a Small World. I was 5 years old and don't remember much from that trip, but I remember the dolls. :)

I am pretty sure the first ride i went on was Dumbo with dad. I seem to remember it being his mission in life to make Dumbo the first ride we went on:lmao:

Dumbo!! Disneyland, 25th anniversary. Wish I still had my silver mickey ears.

So we do Dumbo first when we get to WDW. It's tradition. LOL

:dance3:

Did 40 minutes of it... Or to be more accurate, I tried 40 minutes of it:lmao:

I don't know if it is me or 1 ear drum balanced self now, but I tried the upper body, the abs and the flexibility workout(twice). And the only workout I could do all of the exercises to was the flexibility workout:rotfl2:

I like it enough to keep it, but its gonna be a long long road to looking like the instructor:lmao:

Thank God my DH isn't allowed in the room while i work out. This isn't pretty at all.

Sorry... It was too long ago and I don't remember (1974). My Mom claims it was Small World, but she also claimed that's what she rode when her parents took her to WDW when she was in high school in the late 1950's so obviously her memory is faulty!:rotfl2:

My kids first Disney park was AK and they think it might have been Kilimanjaro Safari, but I don't have the scrapbook here to double check.

Good for you for giving it a try! It will get easier.

Another day here on vacation:). Weather a bit off and on today but there was enough sun for some swimming and kayaking. Over-ate on snacks this afternoon:rolleyes: will have to watch it tonight. We have another birthday celebration tonight (early celebration for my Mom), so cake and ice cream again....not sure I will indulge tonight. But I can't wait to see the cake. DD made a 4 layer ombré colored cake in shades of turquoise with white frosting. Should be beautiful!

Off to find someone to play a game with me! .............P

Will pray for your BIL and his family.

Thank you.

Mine would be the Tea Cups too! I was 8 years old and my dad turned my sister, brother and myself SO fast we were stuck to the back of the tea cups. We couldn't move! We were laughing so hard ... I can still remember my sibling and dad's faces. We rode it over and over and over again. My mom complained about it saying she spend all this money and we loved a ride just like the one at our local amusement park! :lmao:

Pam, sounds like you are having a great time with your family. Enjoy!

Well the good news is, after a few months, my bridesmaid's dress for my best friends wedding fits like a dream. The bad news...when i bought it, it was a little loose. So on the one hand, yay, I don't have to get it fitted, but on the other hand BOOOO I gained weight. I already knew that from the scale, but still, I don't like to SEE it.

The only thing I don't like, is that it's a strapless, so I get that awkward arm flab that hangs over my ****s at the top of the dress. I have 4 weeks till the wedding, so I'm going to look into workouts I can do to target that area.

I've challenged myself to do a little workout routine every night for a month. I do:
40 squats
24 lunges each leg
12 leg lifts each side
24 "mid air" crunches ( I dont know what they are really called)
36 bicycle crunches
36 reverse crunches

It is quite tiring, but not overly so, and im not sore the next day which is important. I figure it's just a small step but if I can do it EVERY night for a month that means something. Anyone have any advice of something I can add?? I'm thinking pushups, but at the moment I can only manage about 5 pushups.

The cape was...not the best. There were some good points, and bad points. The cape for me is a second home, my family is from provincetown. We stay in yarmouth, but really go all over the place. We were in provincetown two days in a row which i loved. I'm portuguese and you can find some great portuguese food in provincetown so i did eat a lot. But lots of kale!! We also go to the beach in the dunes, you have to get a special permit to drive there, and you see whales and dolphins, and seals, all from the beach.

Eating has been very bad this week, as my parents are still at the cape and they left no food in the house. When i mentioned this my mom flipped out on me. So i'm just kind of making due. Lots of granola bars and lima beans.

Other than that, not much happening. The dogs are driving me crazy and some nights I can't get in my garage because of the skunk that lives in my yard! He likes to sit in my driveway

It's been such a busy week getting ready for our schedule to change... Matt started his job at my org. Tuesday morning! So odd to have him around. I had all of our food planned for the week on Saturday and even did a bunch of prep over the weekend. Plus the Olympics and 2 EARLY mornings at the office getting some year-end reports done that were due yesterday, and I just could not bring myself to sit down and get the laptop in gear! So here goes as I try to catch up a little:

If you could meet anybody in history, who would it be? What would you ask/tell them?

I'd want to meet my grandparents when they were my age, for sure. And if that doesn't count, I think I'd want to have dinner with Julia Child. :thumbsup2

Sorry I haven't been around much. A lot of things are just frustrating me right now and I haven't wanted to talk about it or had the energy to talk about it. Work is busy which is both good and bad. People are tipping horribly with their Groupons and we are all disgusted at their rudeness. We have a sign stating what's on the certificates and they ignore it. It's an insult! The other massage therapist quit today. She will cover my shift Tuesday night but is done after that. We can't seem go get another one to come to work. I've contacted schools and posted messages and one of the other girls has done the same. We will have to be rescheduling a whole lot of massages over the next two months plus I need to change my hours with the school year starting. I sent my boss a long email this morning. She gets back from vacation this weekend and had better get on the phone and find someone. It's a good thing I took certain weekends off in the fall. I have to go through the schedule and see what ones we need to reschedule.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this at work. I've heard that is a really common complaint for businesses that choose to use Groupon. I honestly don't buy them much anymore because I often feel really awkward using them... I don't have the income that I'd need to turn into a repeat customer at most of those places, and I know it's such a loss for the owner of a place and a pain for the staff if there's no real possibility of you turning into a full-paying customer. I really hope that your week went OK and that you feel a little bit better about work and all the other things hanging over your head... hopefully that women's gymnastics last night cheered you up, if nothing else! How cool was that??

What is the healthiest snack you get at Disney? What is your guilty indulgence?

Healthiest snack: I really like the Lighthouse Sandwich (hummus/broccoli slaw) or the Vegetarian Chili at Columbia Harbor House... I like to share regular food as a snack, so I think I'll go with that.

Guilty Indulgence: It's ALWAYS gotta be Dole Whip. Although I haven't gotten a chance to try any of those cupcakes at Starring Rolls... so my answer might change next time I get to go!

(Oh... and yes, obviously I've never been to Disney as a vegan and am not sure that I'll be strict on any further hypothetical vacations I go on for a variety of reasons.)

I'm trying the new dis app on my iPhone & have no clue how to multi-quote :( I had about 20 ppl to reply to since I haven't been on for 4 days! Oh well, just know that even though I haven't been on, I've been thinking of everyone.

I like the DIS app! But yes, I never write back on it, only read. Really cumbersome to do something like a multi-quote, I bet, and a little glitchy to boot.

Last week we went to the zoo after I got home but the enjoyable afternoon ended with the truck blowing a tire on a major highway. Luckily we were in the right hand lane and not too far from the shoulder.

I also have to get ready for my trip:yay::yay::yay: I can't believe it is only a couple weeks away. Dh seemed upset that I only bought PH passes and didn't get the water park option but we can always add it on when we get there.

:scared1: I'm so glad you were OK... that is SO SCARY.

I hope you enjoy packing!! I am so jealous even of the POSSIBILITY of going to a Disney water park, they're actually some of my favorite things at WDW and I'm sitting in a very warm and muggy kitchen at the moment.

Aside fom walking, how else do you get exercise at Disney? Or do you have a special disney related exercise you do? For instance I have Toy Story on Wii. When I am needing exercise and a shot of Disney, I pop that in and play off the pounds.

:rotfl: Ohh man. No I don't exercise (beyond walking) at Disney. So much to do, so little time!

Our little family of 3 has been discussing how to reduce our food bill. We are going to have a "contest" the month of August to see if we can limit our spending on all food and drink to $600. Yes, I do realize this is a pretty generous amount but it breaks down to less than $20 per day to feed 3 people 3 meals and snacks. I have a lot of ideas though. We promised DS any leftover $. He just wants everyone to order from the Mc $ menu:rotfl: DS will be out of town about 10 days so that should make things easier too. We also plan to use only cash since we are using our cc way too much to eat out. Will be interesting to see how we do and I hope it gets the guys more into meal planning and prep.

This is great! I hope it goes well!! I always find it really hard to budget our food. Smart move with giving the extra to your DS--very motivating! :rotfl2: Please keep us posted on this!

Three years ago I lost my mind and decided I wanted to become a mom all over again. Today is my lil princesses 3rd birthday. So in honor of her birthday, everybody gets to make a wish. No wishing for weightloss, that is a given. So close your eyes, blow out an imaginary candle, and share your wishes.

There is also a party game involved. The ABC's of Disney. See if we can get thru all 26 letters of the alphabet using disney characters. For example A might be Alice, B might be Belle or Beast, C for Cinderella, and so on. I hope you all participate, it makes it more fun.

I'll start :) A for Alice

Aww I missed the party game!!! I wish that our work pool would win the lottery for once on a day when the jackpot is REALLY high. It's crazy--we practice and practice and practice and never get ANY better at winning the lottery!!! You'd think that practice had nothing to do with it...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY little one!!! Oh 3, I loved DD at 3, it is such a great age!!!

My Wish would be.......... That my kids stay healthy and lead active lives into their adulthood. We were actually talking about this yesterday, how they all have aspirations is health and wellness. DS16 wants to be a chef, DS11 wants to be a massage therapist/acupuncturist/chiropractor, DS10 is really into martial arts so he might have a job doing that, and DD6 has become my dietitian. They were talking about starting their own fitness resort, it was funny.

B is for Bernard and Bianca

Congratulations on your big loss last week! :cool1: And your kids are just too cool-- esp. your DD6 being your dietician!! I'd love to hear some of her wisdom one of these days...

Happy Tuesday all! Something went terribly wrong with the crockpot French toast and I woke up at 2:30 am to the smell of something burning. In just 4 hours on low the crockpot burned its contents to the point of smoking! If it wasn't MY crockpot I would say it was defective... But I love this crockpot and have never had trouble with it.

Your time at camp just sounds SO lovely--and I was SO impressed to read about your daughter's ombre turquoise layer cake!!! Your daughter really bakes a lot, doesn't she!? Did the cake turn out?

Regarding the crockpot, could it have something to do with the wiring at the cabin/house you're staying at? Our family's lakehouse has some pretty weak/odd electricity and I would imagine that this could theoretically could make something like a crock pot kind of unpredictable in how it heats and behaves. Thank goodness the smell of smoke woke you up though-- how scary.

OK todays question of the day is going to tickle your memories. What is the first ride at a Disney park that you remember going on?

It's tradition in my family to ride It's a Small World first! It was the first ride I rode on the first trip I can remember having gone on when I was in 3rd grade. I'm not sure what ride I went on first when I was 18 mos old though...

Anyone have any advice of something I can add?? I'm thinking pushups, but at the moment I can only manage about 5 pushups.

I'm so glad that your bridesmaid dress at least FITS though... when I bought a little too small for me in February, I spent MONTHS agonizing on whether or not the zip would zip, or if the fabric would rip while I was dancing or giving the speech. I felt so uncomfortable the WHOLE wedding. So just enjoy your time and enjoy the comfort of a dress that fits!

To target that tricep area, try dips down from a chair... Although "targeting" an area might actually increase the area (because it builds muscle, doesn't reduce mass), at least in the short term until the surrounding weight is gone... so just enjoy being healthy with your workout routine and good eating but don't worry too much about doing specific areas for specific body parts if the idea is to minimize the bulge in a specific area (which I've got a bit of on another bridesmaid dress myself. so fun.) :sad2:

Also, found an article in today's New York Times... "Dieting vs. Exercise for Weight Loss" I'm curious to hear what you all have to say. I personally cut exercise out of my weight loss plan because I was experiencing that it wasn't working for me (this was after training for a half marathon from zero, so I DID really give it a fair shot), and I've had a lot of success through diet only using some exercise to get over plateaus. I'm SURE that everyone is different, but this seemed really validating to me because a lot of people were really critical of my decision to stop running for weight loss reasons, but it really was the right choice for me. Eventually when a bit more of the weight is gone (in about 10 pounds or so) I'm going to ease back into a fitness routine for cardiovascular health, and just overall fitness. But I think the example that the researcher gives in the article is just CRAZY--she suggests that she's seen a woman BURN 500 calories in a work out in one day and then BURN FEWER CALORIES OVERALL THAT DAY than if you hadn't worked out AT ALL. :scared1: I feel like this must be an extreme example, but it's still really scary to think about, I'd NEVER have thought the metabolic rate shift was that dramatic.

Of COURSE I know all the benefits of exercise and I COMPLETELY BELIEVE that it can be a healthy and integral part of people's weight loss plan because hey--EVERYONE'S metabolism works differently and it's tough to generalize. But I think it's really interesting that the common wisdom just doesn't necessarily always prevail.

Alright. Off to bed. I hope everyone is doing SO GREAT, I was SO HAPPY to see all of those losses, and a special big congratulations to BUFFY! I hope this super on-plan week of mine turns into some real loss when I weigh in on Friday!!

Good Thursday morning everyone.

Last day of classes for this week. One more week to goand then I am done for the summer. It was nice to meet some of my students for next year it has been a little draining. If it was earlier in the day then I might not mind it so much. It starts at 11 so I leave my house at 10 and don't get home until 1:30. I think it breaks my day up too much. I don't get much started in the morning since I know I will be leaving and by the time I eat lunch a good part of the afternoon is shot. If they do it again next year I hope they could move the time up again.

But on a bright note in two weeks I will be getting on a plane to go to DW.:cheer2::cheer2:

I can't wait for my trip but I am a little low since I just found out a friend's cancer has spread. Please keep her in your prayers.

We are also a little anxoius in the house. Ds1 applied for a full time position where he has been working part time. He has been passed over the last two times. The deadline for the applications was yesterday. WE are worried that his interview could be the week we are in FL. We are hoping they are next week or early the following week before we leave. He could also hear about the position when we are down there. PLease send PD

kollerbear thanks for the article. I printed it out so that I could read it. I only really lose weight when I watch what I eat and workout so I do know it is different for everyone.

OK todays question of the day is going to tickle your memories. What is the first ride at a Disney park that you remember going on?

It would have to been on our honeymoon. (Our anniversary is this Sunday. 34 years :dance3:.) We got married on Sat, spent Sun at our apartment and left on Monday for Calif. We got in late at night but the next morning we were at DL. I guess it must have been Pirates or Haunted Mansion or maybe even Jungle Cruise.

Off to have breakfast. Have a happy and healthy day.

I get these emails from a Disney related site weekly, and in one part of it people share their magical moments they have experienced at a Disney Park. They can be very simple like the cute couple being surprised by a cast member with a sundae just because they looked so sweet together, or a bit more elaborate like being chosen to be in a parade. Have any of you experienced a Disney Magical Moment?

Mine was a few years ago when Disney was doing the magical dreams promotion I think. Everything was done up in silver and blue. Anyway my family had a cast member motion us over, telling us we should really ride the train. So we went for it, and as we were getting on the train another cast member presented all of us with commemorative lanyards and pins. It made the day extra special.

Very nice!

Our magical moment was in Disneyland in 2005. It was the week leading into the big 50th anniversary and the day of the grand reopening of Space Mountain. We had ridden it the previous day when we hit the soft opening just right. Anyhow.... We were getting ready to leave DL and head to DCA for the remainder of the day when a cast member stopped us and asked what we were planning to do next. She invited us to attend the grand reopening ceremony and be one of the first to ride SM! We were taken to the upper outdoor queue area of SM (through "cast member only" doors). We arrived just in time to hear some Disney dignitaries talking and then Mickey Mouse escorted Neil Armstrong out to speak! It was really cool and then we got to ride.....with no line! We got interviewed by a local tv station, but I don't know if it ever made the air. We of course weren't the only guests there....and there was a lot of press, but we felt special! It really shortened our time at DCA, but I think it was worth it.

I just googled the event and found someone's YouTube video that is JUST MISSING us...the videographer was on the opposite side than us.that would have been funny to see us in someone else's video!

Woke to some clouds and humidity today, but seems to be clearing.

No laundry facilities here  so off to the laundromat for a bit. TTYL.........P

GREAT MOMENTS!! ours was in 2001 on our very first family trip and we were at the MK for MVMCP and making our way over to Peter Pan when two cast memebers asked if we'd ridden it yet and we said No and they escorted up to the front of the line and actually rode with my DD & DS while my sister, mother and I caught the next one - then when we exited they asked what was next and we said aaaah and they said let's all go on Winnie the Pooh and again they took us to the front of the line and rode with DD and DS :) it was sooo much fun!

I start back August 16th .... sigh. My students start back August 23rd. I have a lot to get done before then and all my sons' activities are ramping up. Just finished shopping with my oldest for his college supplies. They are all sitting in my living room. He is not a shopper and it was painful for both of us! :lmao:

Yes...it's inching closer and closer. I keep trying to convince DH I should be a stay at home mom. Too bad our finances don't allow. Oh well, back to the grind!

Shawnprincess:

It's so nice to see all the people here trying to spend less. I have been really watching what I'm buying since we got back from vacation. I am really trying hard to avoid drive thrus and make food at home. We rarely go out to eat, but if I'm out and about and the kids get hungry, I usually stop to get something. Now, I've been just going home & making food. I have DSs 9 & 6. My 9 year old is to the point where if we do go out to eat, a kid's meal isn't enough food. I try to spend $100 a week average on groceries. Some weeks it's less, some it's more. Good luck with your challenge!

Hope your daughter had a wonderful birthday. I would wish for financial freedom for me and my family. Not having to worry about money would be wonderful. I stress a lot about not saving enough. I worry I'm not saving enough for retirement and college for DSs. I would love, love, love not to worry about those things anymore!

I can remember my first trip so well, but I can't remember the first ride. I was 5 or 6 years old and definitely remember Space Mountain, Dumbo, the Speedway, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Haunted Mansion the most. Knowing my dad and his planning style, it was probably Space Mountain. I'm pretty sure he had us on a tight schedule & we had to do Space Mountain before it got too busy!

Other than that, not much happening. The dogs are driving me crazy and some nights I can't get in my garage because of the skunk that lives in my yard! He likes to sit in my driveway

This actually made me lol. I was just picturing a skunk staring you down as you try to get in your house! We had raccoons in our neighborhood and they were coming on our front porch. One night, a mama & her 4 babies were climbing all over our furniture & she was a meanie! Well, DH put out a trap so he could move them out to a lake nearby, and we caught a skunk! We carefully approached it, covered it with a blanket, and DH drove it to the river in our town. He opened the cage, and that skunk took off running! I'm so glad we didn't get sprayed!

The first day of our first family trip we went to Epcot. We ate at Grden Grille and our waiter made a big deal out of my boys 1st visit buttons. He went and got them cards with the character's autographs and the character's were so awesome with them. It made my day to have our vacation to start out so wonderful.

Well, I just got back from my sister's house and we are all ready for our garage sale tomorrow & Saturday. Now, I have to do some laundry since DSs are staying at my mom's tonight and the in-laws' Fri-Sun. I have to pack them up here pretty soon. Then, I have to cook dinner (easy tonight~pasta). DH wants to watch a movie tonight, but I keep telling him I need to watch the Olympics! Plus, I really want to get to bed before midnight tonight. I am avoiding all spoilers during the day and watching it all on prime time from 8-12. I am not getting enough sleep at all!! I'm not sure if I'll be able to check in tomorrow or Saturday, so have a great weekend!

Congrats of 34 years!!! That is awesome. :cool1: Our anniversary is on the 11th. We will celebrate 22 years. I can't believe we have been married that long. I am really lucky, he is a great guy.

Sending good thoughts for your son to get the full-time job. Let us know how it goes ... and enjoy your Disney trip. Yes, I am green with envy. :goodvibes

That is such a nice memory. I love how Disney does this and can make individuals feel so special.

***********

Woke to some clouds and humidity today, but seems to be clearing.

No laundry facilities here  so off to the laundromat for a bit. TTYL.........P

Wow wee ... that is a great story!

Yay! Congrats to everyone!

Yes...it's inching closer and closer. I keep trying to convince DH I should be a stay at home mom. Too bad our finances don't allow. Oh well, back to the grind!

When my boys were your sons' ages, I too wanted to stay home. I really thought I was missing a lot and managing work and home can be real juggle. However, I had an older teacher (who is a dear friend and retired 4 years ago) tell me that teaching is the best job you can have as a mom and I really need to stick with it.

She had said that the most important time to be with your children are when they are teenagers. This is when they really need their parents. And you know what, she was so right (I always tell her this.) We had babysitters come to our house when we needed childcare and I bring up the names of the babysitters and my sons don't remember some of them.

However, my teenagers really need our guidance (even though they tell you they don't ) ) And once everyone is on a school schedule, it gets easier. Hope this makes you feel a little better. In an idea world being a stay-at-home mom would be great. I love my job, but I know you deal with some tough students. :grouphug:
