Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

Good Thursday morning everyone.

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

My name is Dona and I can't tell you how many challenges this makes for me. I am 57 (my birthday was just Tuesday) married woman with 2 sons 27 and almost 22. Ds2 just graduated from college this month and turned around and started grad school as a grad assistant. He moved into his first apartment and has most things paid for as long as mom and dad are there to help him. Ds1 is still at home but would love to move out and move in with his gf (the new world. something we never did). He will if he gets a full time job. PLease send PD for him because they are getting ready to post a full time position doing just what he is doing. I would love for him to move out. He also is starting grad school but as an online student with the UNiv of Nebraska (we live in NJ)

Dh and I are college sweethearts and have both been working at our present teaching jobs since we graduated colleg in 1977. Dh teaches 7th graders math and I teach the other end of the scale and teach Advanced Placement Calculus to high school students. Dh is planning to retire at the end of next year. I am hoping to retire in 3 years. My school is changing to block scheduling next year so we shall see what happens.

I was hoping to be almost at my goal by now but I am no where near. I do have my eating under control but I am struggling to get back to working out. I am hoping to do it this challenge. I will be walking during this summer to get ready for my trip to DW:banana::banana:. We will be staying for 3 nights at a family suite at ASMU and then 5 days at BLYT TPV:banana::banana: but we will be staying with my sister and her family and a couple of other people.

Off to get ready for work.

Good luck everyone.

Good Thursday morning everyone.

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

Good morning! My name is Pamela and I am a 40-somthing ;) mostly SAHM to two teens (DD nearly 17 and DS 14.5). Just celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary and I live in the beautiful but often cold state of NH.

I re-re-re-re-started this weight loss journey (with Weight Watchers) on Jan. 2, 2008 at an even 200 pounds (although I had been as high as 219 and had lost 40 and then regained 20 during 2003-2006) and haven't looked back. I was originally losing for a Disney trip, but managed to get to my short-term goal before that trip and then kept going!

I have never really considered that I "hit" goal, as I was determined to see a lower and lower number.... but have finally come to realize in the last 6 months or so that I need to consider myself pretty much at maintenance with my range being about 130-135 (although I am currently struggling with a few pounds to get back within that range).

I pretty much have the eating under control, except for occasional flubs and slip-ups, but I definitely struggle with the exercise.

I have lost count of how many of these BL challenges I have done here on the WISH boards, but they are my ROCK!! This group has come to mean a lot to me!

Well.... although I claimed I am a mostly SAHM, today is a work day and I have 25 kindergarteners waiting for me! TTYL.....................P

I

I don't have a lot of time (I ran 4 miles or so before work this morning:goodvibes), but I think it is was on I<3 to Run on FB that I saw this recently.

So this is for all you new runners:

If you run, then you are a runner.:goodvibes

I think women especially get told a lot that they are "joggers" or not "real" runners whatever that means.

But for all you starting out, If you run, then you are a runner.:goodvibes

Have an awesome Thursday!

Good morning all! :goodvibes

My head hurts too. It's been hurting since yesterday, to much time in the heat. I guess I'm trying to feed the ache.

Hope that you are feeling better today, Buffy! :flower3:

It took me awhile to figure out that you were talking about your emoticons in your signature. ;)

Since I jumped the gun in my excitement :cheer2: for the challenge to start, I thought I'd repost my intro and answer the QOTD for those that are just joining.

Hi Renee! :wave2: Thanks for reposting your intro. Great job doing the C25K. princess: Another program that I like is Jeff Galloway's 5K program. I wish it would have been around when I first started running because the C25K was hard. :scared: I did switch to Marathoning for Mortals but have since found I am a Galloway girl.

Lisa … I never knew you ran ½ marathons. Wow! This is my goal. I have been looking for one to join in order to have a goal. I think I will be asking you more question during this challenge.

Fran, good luck with these last few days of school. I think there is a special place in heaven for teachers. :teacher:

I will be happy to answer any questions about running. I was inspired to run by my Biggest Loser friends -- I started so I could go to the Princess and meet my Disboards friends. I think as an adult there are fewer opportunities to do something that is just for you that totally astonishes and amazes you. This is a diagram one of my WISH friends posted that really sums it up for me:

I absolutely love the Tower of Terror medal.

I joined the spring challenge, I'd lost all but the last 20. Thanks in BIG part to the spring challenge, those pounds are gone, and I'm a maintainer now!

Hi Liz! Nice to see you! :flower3: Congratulations on making lifetime for WW and meeting your goal! :yay: It is great to have both losers and maintainers as part of our group. And I'm looking forward to seeing you in January. :donald:

That is so exciting that you get to do a hotel review with Pete and Walter! :thumbsup2 I got to meet Pete at the Dismeet at the Tinker Bell. The Disboards folk speak very highly of the WISH boards and the folks on them. :cool2:

I have my quote ready for tomorrow. It's very fitting for the Eve of the Great Summer Challenge.

Always happy to get some inspiration! :cool2:

Count me in! My name is Robbie & I'm 33. I have been married almost 16 years and have four kids: DD 14, DD 13, DD 11 & DS 9. I've been overweight since I was a teenager and after a health scare in March, I got myself into gear. I began weight watchers 3/23 and began walking three times a week soon after. 5/1 I began (and fell in love with) zumba. I FINALLY found the exercise that I enjoy! As of last Friday I am down 25 pounds. I have 75 to goal. Yesterday I bought jeans in the regular section. Good bye plus size! I'm looking forward to this challenge! Good luck everyone!

:welcome: Robbie! Congratulations on your loss so far! :thumbsup2

I was hoping to be almost at my goal by now but I am no where near. I do have my eating under control but I am struggling to get back to working out. I am hoping to do it this challenge. I will be walking during this summer to get ready for my trip to DW

A belated Happy Birthday to you, Dona! :bday: party:

You are going to have such a great time on your trip this summer!

I have never really considered that I "hit" goal, as I was determined to see a lower and lower number.... but have finally come to realize in the last 6 months or so that I need to consider myself pretty much at maintenance with my range being about 130-135 (although I am currently struggling with a few pounds to get back within that range)

Hi Pamela! :wave2: Nice to see you! I'm always inspired by all your hard work and determination. It is nice that you have more maintainer company now. :goodvibes

It's fun to read everyone's intros -- keep them coming!

Are they working? DH and DS15 were stuck earlier.

Buffy, I hope you're head is feeling better! My DD and I both suffer from hormonal migraines, so we're down and out for 2-3 days before TOM.

Your DH and DS remind me of my DH and DD... My DD14 is a mouthy son of a gun most of the time too... Drives my DH nuts and my usual response is its PMS. :rotfl: Too bad she suffers from PMS everyday. ;)

I don't have a lot of time (I ran 4 miles or so before work this morning:goodvibes), but I think it is was on I<3 to Run on FB that I saw this recently.

Rose, Thank you for this great quote! Sometimes its just what you need to hear. :goodvibes

Hi Renee! :wave2: Thanks for reposting your intro. Great job doing the C25K. princess: Another program that I like is Jeff Galloway's 5K program. Lisa, I should be done with C25K by mid-July and the Galloway training program should be up for the Princess right about that time, so I'm going to jump to that. I'm guessing Galloway will be what works for me, since I'm not planning on running the whole way. :thumbsup2

I love the diagram, it really brings it into prospective.

*******************************************************
Finished Week 3 Day 2 of C25K today and will be starting zumba on the wii tomorrow. I think my exercise routine will be every other day c25k and then rotating zumba and 30 day shred of my "c25k off days".

I weighed myself this morning and am up again. I am hoping it is water weight as I just started drinking my 64 oz of water/day on Saturday. I don't think it will be off by tomorrows weigh-in, so maybe I'll have a big loss next week. :rolleyes1

I found an interesting recipe of pinterest called "Sassy water." Some of you may know it, but it is said to to help you shed some extra pounds around your midsection by eliminating a buildup of contaminants, fat, and excess water weight. I just made my first batch, so we'll see. You're supposed to drink 8 glasses a day of it for 4 days. Since it has to sit overnight, tomorrow will be day 1 of Sassy water. :drinking:

Quote of the Day

Cultivating inner discipline is something that takes time: Expecting rapid results is simply a sign of impatience. ~ Dalai Lama

********************

Sorry I'm late with the Quote of the Day. DS15 is really sick but insisted on going to school (Final exams preview) so we've been texting back and forth as to wether he should go to the nurse or not. I tried to talk him out of going but he wasn't hearing it.
I need to call the Dr back today too, I'm not happy with the other Dr that we saw yesterday. Could be pneumonia, could be Lyme, or could be a virus. Did a chest x-ray but there "was some fluid around the lungs but not enough to worry about" didn't do a blood draw to test for Lyme. WTH?!?!? So we just sit here and wait with 103 degree fevers???

As for me:
Headache is better. I think it was just the heat and not wanting to eat because it was hot.
Today I finally got all the park hours for our Disney trip in Dec, so I'm starting with a basic touring plan and need to work on Dining ideas!
I have got to get moving!! 21 days until I can make ressies. Making ressies for 12, not an easy thing to do!

Sassy water is from the Flat Belly Diet. Let me know what you think of it. I've read and re-read that book a few times and agree with much of what they say, but don't care much for the full eating plan.

**************

Well, morning K students are gone, I've had lunch and recess duty.... now on to a batch of Preschoolers! Hopefully the afternoon will go by quickly. The weather here today is absolutely SPECTACULAR! Warm, but not hot, sunny, not humid, lightly breezy. I would pay lots to have these kinds of days more often. I'm thinking of walking a rail trail tonight (hopefully with DS) instead of hitting the gym. It is waaaay too nice out to be in if I don't have to be!

Afternoon will be a dash home to change up and grab DD's swim bag, then a dash back to her school to get her (taking a test after school that she will be missing tomorrow). Then I will take her to the Y (maybe grabbing a sandwich along the way if I don't have time to pack up anything) and then take my walk and/or hike.

I'm hoping I'll have time to pop on here tonight to catch up a bit more, but no promises! TTYL.....................P

CC -- I really enjoyed the Disney themed HH! I'm excited to do it again. Hopefully, I'll stay on track better with it this time.

Okay, I'll be back later with more responses to people. I've got to get ready to leave here soon. Alan's going in for a physical.

I'll Be Back... :cool1:

Good Thursday morning everyone.

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

Good morning! My name is Jennifer, and I'm a 44 yo SAHM to 2 kids (dd almost 15 and ds 8). This is my third challenge, though I haven't been active on the threads. It's hard to keep up with you all, and I feel guilty if I don't respond to everyone, so I tend to keep quiet. But I really like the accountability, support and ideas I get from Biggest Loser challenges.

I'm a runner (would have said "slow jogger" or "really slow runner" a few posts ago ;)) and just ran my first 5k this month. I'm pretty disciplined about the exercise, and usually eat fairly well during the day, but evening snacking is a hard habit for me to break. I've also recently been diagnosed as anemic and have been borderline low thyroid for a few years. I feel very lucky to have only very minor health issues, but I'm trying to figure out if and how these relate to my struggles to keep my weight down.

Thanks for all the hard work that goes into keeping these challenges going!

Okay well changed my mind. I'm staying home while Alan goes to the doctor. I just ate something light and my head is pounding. Hopefully these animals will calm down and let me rest when Alan leaves. I swear some days I think I have 2 toddlers instead of a cat and a dog, LOL.

Hoping I'll feel better later. I've got some strength training I've got to get done for the other BLC I'm part of on Sparkpeople.

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

I am Laura, 42 years old. Since I was a kid, I was always chubby. By high school, I was close to 200 lbs. Joined Weight Watchers for the first time as a senior in HS and lost 30 pounds to fit into my size 13/14 prom dress.

I maintained it over that summer, but once college started I gained the Freshman 15, the Sophomore 15, the Junior 15 and the Senior 15. Stayed that way all throughout my 20’s. I would periodically re-join WW, lose 20 pounds and then quit. I always hovered around 240 or so.

I had a job in my 30’s which required me to travel 5 days a week. I stayed in a hotel with an expense account for breakfast, lunch and dinner – for two years. I was close to 280 by the time that assignment was over. Once again WW brought me down to around 240.

About 5 years ago, I decided enough was enough. I was a few years away from 40 and wanted to get on track before I hit the big 4-0. I rejoined WW and got myself down to 203 – it was lowest I’d been since I started college 20 years ago. But – life got in the way. My mother got sick and passed away suddenly. I was left in charge of the estate, dealing with her house, etc. And the weight crept back on.

Last January (2011) I rejoined WW and was down 21 pounds by the time the summer rolled around. Again – I hit a wall and stopped losing (I also stopped going to meetings and stopped tracking – hmm, I wonder if those two things go hand in hand :confused3). Luckily I didn’t regain – I think sticking to my 3.5 mile walks 5 days a week really helped.

I am single and responsible for cooking only for myself. It SHOULD be easy to shop for the healthy groceries and cook the healthy meals everyday – but SHOULD and actually DO are two separate things and I am trying very hard to work on that.

So here we are today – back on WW – weighing in at around 215. I’m trying very hard not to focus on the “number”, but to focus on the positive changes I am making. However, I have not seen the lower side of 200 since 1987 – and it is within my reach right now.

I rejoined WW just last week, and I also removed my old (21 lbs. lost) ticker from my signature. Yeah, it is great that I lost over 20 pounds and kept it off, but I'm starting fresh this go-around.

Over on the WISH Journal board, I've been keeping a journal and I think that helps with accountability. I dropped out of the last BL challenge and am determined to stick it out this time.

Looking forward to spending the summer with all of you. :cool1:

- Laura

It is so nice to see all our new and returning challengers! The Summer Challenge is one of my favorites. It's just such a nice time of year.

I'm going to go ahead and post a warm up question since we are all anxious to get started.

Raise your hand if you want to go to the Happiest Place on Earth as we start our Sizzlin' Hot Summer Challenge!

Yep, we're on our way to healthy living!

Oh . . . um . . . did you think I was going to say we're going to DisneyWorld? Okay, let's see if we can manage to do both.

But before we get started we had better introduce ourselves to our fellow travelers.

Did anyone else ever go on the America the Beautiful attraction at Disneyland? It was a circle-vision movie, similar to the Reflections of China movie at Epcot. Although the attraction never moved, many people thought it did because of the way it was filmed, so the host always asked you to introduce yourself to the people standing around you, in case you needed to grab onto them.

Well, during this challenge we will all be counting of the support of our fellow challengers.

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

I am Lisa and I will be your coach this week. I've been doing the BL challenges since 2009. I'm 51, married and have a sometimes cranky teen son. I will be reaching my goal weight later this year. It's taken me longer than I thought it would to get there but each and every challenge, year after year, I end up weighing less than I started. On Sunday I finished running my 4th half marathon in 12 months. I've made lifelong friends and been to WISH meets at both Disneyland and DisneyWorld. I've done things that I never dreamed possible because of these challenges and WISH who gave me the courage to start. :teeth:

A big, BL thank you to our hostess and WIN! coach, Janis, to Sue, our weightkeeper, and to CC our HH coach (who helped me put together this first week's questions).

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and to a great summer challenge!

:wave2: Hi Lisa! Thank You for coaching this week!! Way to go on the marathons!!! My fiance and I are going to try out a 5k soon, but I have a lot of work to do before I would be comfortable. I completed the C25K once, and I am going to start it all over again tomorrow hoping to improve my time!

Hello all.

I am Christopher and this will be my second challenge. I did really well on the challenge from January through March losing nearly 50 pounds. Then I went on back to back Disney Cruises which were wonderful. I managed to keep my exercise going and returned with only 2 pounds gained. But what I lost was my solid motivation to stick to a program. So I managed to basically maintain and nearly reach my final weight goal for the last challenge but did not quite make it.

So I really look forward to this challenge to help me with the motivation and get myself moving downward again.

I am 38, American but living in Switzerland where I am a music teacher at an International School. As many of the schools are finished in the USA I still have another month and will not finish until 29 June.

I am a former cast member of WDW and have a real love for the parks and all things Disney. My screen name is derived from the fact that I was born on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the company. So I am sure that if I were to look at my red blood cells there would be little ears on them. My blood is Disney through and through.

I really look forward to this challenge. I was a coach for the Donalds the week before the merge of the last challenge and I have thrown my hat in the ring with a PM to Janis for week 3. I am also planning to use the My Fitness Pal as my tracking program so if you use it too, I would love to have you as a friend there too.

Looking forward to be Sizzlin Hot at the end of this challenge! Bring it on!

Christopher

Wow you did such a great job last challenge!! I am quite jealous of your back to back cruises! I am just starting to plan our first Disney cruise for Decemeber 2013. I'm thinking a 4 night cruise and then 4 days at WDW for my DD's 5th bday.
You really do seem to have Disney in your blood! :mickeyjum

Hey all! I'm Buffy, BAMB, Mom, Hey You. I answer to all!
I'm 38.... wait.... no.... yeah 38 (the mind is going)
Married for 19 years to DH
I have 4 kids - see below, those are accurate representations of my spastic crew.
I'm a NAHM (never at home mom)
This is my umpteenth challenge (I lost count, see I told you the mind was going)
I'm still feeling my way through the weight loss maze, but with the help of my peeps here I can get there!
My role in the BL challenges is to send motivational quotes when I remember, but if you have one please feel free to share!!!

Ack, got sidetracked with a phone call. OK, I think that's it for now.

Christopher My MFP name is the same here as it is there!

Hi Buffy! LOL I sometimes have to think about how old I am too and I'm 28! Looking forward to your quotes!!! :)

Funny story, I AM going to the Happiest Place on Earth at the end of this challenge!!

Hi!! :yay: My name is Kaiti, and this is my third (I think!) challenge and I can't wait to get started. I've not lost too much weight so far, but I haven't been as faithful as I should have been. I really want to change that this time around. I'm 26, and work in an operating room in the anesthesia department. I freaking love my job, and can't wait to go back to school for nursing. My plan is to get my RN, and move to Florida to be closer to Disney....and my DBF is in total agreement with it. He only enables me, I love it! At then end (or so) of this challenge, I'll be heading to WDW to be in the Tower of Terror 10miler- my first big race! I can't wait to go and the closer it gets, the more excited I am

****
I'm a little excited and wanted to share- at my last weigh-in with WW this past Saturday, I hit 11.2lbs lost! I'm very excited to be in the 170's right now, but I don't plan on staying there long! I want to be at 173 by June 16th weigh-in. That averages a little over a pound a week for me, which is pretty attainable for me. I also have to get more fresh veggies into my diet. For some reason, it's like I forget they exist...go figure But I love them when I get them, I can't get enough! Does anyone else have this issue?

Hi Kaiti!
Your job sounds very interesting!! I love you plans for the future! My fiance and I would LOVE to move to FL to be closer to Disney, but we hate to take our kids away from their grandparents, and none of the grandparents want to move! Total bummer!
Way to go with the weight loss so far!!!

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

Hi Everyone! My name's Katie. I am 22 years old from NH. I am married to my best friend, Justin, and mom to 3 wonderful kids - My stepdaughter, Carley, 5 - my son, Camden, 4 - and my son, Colton, 8 1/2 months.

I am a stay at home mom, and attend college online for Criminal Justice. 5 more years and I'll have my JD to become a practicing attorney :thumbsup2

So looking forward to this challenge. Ready to stop the excuses and lose all this baby weight! If I don't my kids may be 30 before I fit into my old jeans again.

Oh - and I get to go to the happiest place on earth in September :) Taking the kids for their birthdays - all three are in September - It's a surprise. Hardest secret to keep!!! So let's get healthy!

Hi Katie! Good for you for being a SAHM and doing the online schooling! I am a SAHM too, and I find it so hard to accomplish anything, some days! My son (will be 2 in July) keeps me on my toes every second of the day! He LOVES to climb and if I let him out of my sight for even a second he would probably be swinging from the ceiling fan! :rotfl: My daughter (3) is a little easier on me though! So I can usually try to get some stuff done while my little monster takes his nap! :)
That is awesome that you are taking all 3 kids to the parks for their birthdays!! We took our daughter for her 3rd birthday and it was so wonderful! It was our first ever trip too which made it even more magical!! We are totally hooked though! We are going back this October and we are in the beginning of planning a land/sea for December 2013 for our daughter's 5th birthday. I feel bad that we haven't taken our son for his birthday but I'm a little nervous about the crowds and heat in July! lol
I can't imagine how hard it is to keep the Disney secret!! I get way too to excited, that I can't help talking about it in front of the kids! Hmmm....maybe I will try it for our December 2013 trip! LOL

Hola!! My name is Lynda and this is my second challenge. I lost 11 lbs in the first one but have since gained 2 lbs back I am married to a soldier and have a daughter who will be 13 in a month and a 10 year old son. This month will be a huge challenge for me. We are moving the end of June and will be staying with family for a month until my husband finishes his drill sergeant time and then in August we'll head to Michigan for recruiter duty. Fun stuff!! Also I am finishing up my capstone class for Paralegal Studies and will have my bachelors degree by the end of the month!! Actually the last day of class ends the day before we leave here! Craziness!!
So, lots going on, but I loved doing this challenge last time and I look forward to joining you all again!! Success to all!!

--Lynda

Hi Lynda! Wow! You really do have a lot going on!! Congrats (a little early) on the bachelors degree! :thumbsup2

Hi I'm Amanda or Sissy. This will be my first BL challenge. My story is I have always been overweight. I lost about 45 pounds to join the Air Force then pretty much gained 20 back right away. I was okay at that weight (185) for about three years. Then the end of 2010-end of 2011 I gained 30 pounds. I left the AF in November and moved to Texas where my then fiance is stationed. I weighted 216 pounds when I got here. We got married in February and I started noticing the scale going down after we got home from the wedding/honeymoon. I wasn't trying to lose weight but having so much less stress in my life and eating at home more was the trick. I lost about 15 pounds in no time. Seeing the weight loss, I then decided to be more active and get down to a healthy weight. I tried WW but it just isn't for me. I am now on Nutrasystem and enjoying it. I am learning about portion control and getting used to eating less. I have lost 7 pounds so far. I don't work so I have plenty of time to workout everyday. My DH and I are doing C25K with our first race together on June 23. I am doing yoga several times a week and am doing some strength training. I am trying to add in more and more of both, I also do other cardio besides C25K. My goal for this challenge is to lose 1 pound a week so 12 pounds total. That should put me at about 180 and hopefully my old jeans and dresses will fit again! I also turned 30 this year and that motivated me to make some changes. My 20s were a pretty turbulent time and I was very happy to turn 30 and start new things along with my new decade. My ultimate goal is to put on my wedding dress on our first anniversary and have it fall off!!

Hi Amanda!
I love your goal for the challenge!! I'm getting married in October. My dress came in a little over a week ago, so I'm hoping that after this challenge I will be able to have my dress taken in a little bit!! :)

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

My name is Jessica and I am 27 years old. I have a DH and no kids yet. (Although I sometimes feel like a mom when he has his friends over) This is the first challenge that I am competing in and I could not be more excited.
I currently live in So California about 15 minutes from the happiest place on earth. I work full time at a bank while my husband is going to school for his Bachelors in Business.
That's all I can think of for now, but if you want to know more please ask.

I really look forward to getting to know all of you and making some friends while on this journey!

Hi Jessica!! You are very lucky to be so close to Disneyland!! How often do you go to the parks?

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

I want to say a big WELCOME to all the newbies!! These ladies and gents are an awesome motivator to keep you on track. The last challenge I lost the most weight I've ever lost during a challenge, 8.2 pounds!!

My name is Kristina and I'm in a relationship with Alan. He's been a big part of my life since the passing of my husband and daughter in 2008. This will be I believe my 4th challenge (I've lost count).

We moved to central FL last fall and I have to say I LOVE IT! I've lived in TX most of my life and yeah it gets warm here but nothing like North Texas. I chuckle when they say "It is going to be a balmy 95 degrees." PFFFT, 95 is a cold front in TX during the summer.

Oh, and let's not forget the important part of my move, I'm 15 minutes from Disney World ::MickeyMo. Within the last few weeks we've started a weekly tradition of going over to the resorts (mainly Grand Floridian) and relaxing and then having dinner somewhere on Disney property. Last weekend it was Kona Cafe. I'm not sure if we'll get the chance this weekend. Its been raining pretty much daily for the last week or so.

My goals for this challenge:

Get into ONEDERLAND!! (as of this morning I'm 4.5 pounds away)

Lose 12 pounds -- This one is important because I've finally realized after working on my weight loss since last October that my body is the speed of a tortiose when it comes to losing weight. However, I may be finding out the culprit of that in a few days. My primary care doctor believes I could have PCOS. One of the symptoms of PCOS is weight gain and I've heard from many friends who have it that losing weight can be a real pain in the tush.

Okay, now that this is the length of a novel I'll end it!!

Hi Kristina!! You are oh so close to ONEderland! I made it to ONEderland last challenge, and I must say it is a ONEderful Place to be!! :)
I am so sorry for the loss of your daughter and husband. :sad1:

Your weekly tradition sounds wonderful! I hope the rain clears up soon so you can get back to it!!

Hi! I'm Rose and I'm in as a Loser for the Summer. I had a little reality check last week, and decided I needed to buckle down again.

I am 44 and started doing the challenges in 2010, even running a couple of challenges. I work part time for a non-profit, am married, mom to an almost 21yo DS.

In 2010 I lost 42 pounds and went to maintain at 147. I then lost about 10 more pounds and got down as low as 137 in April of 2011. (I am 5'7".) By the time I got to 137 I was pretty sick--turns out I have a pretty nasty gluten intolerance. I do not officially have c-d--I stopped having tests done when I started immediately feeling better after giving up gluten.

Anyhow, I have put on a few pounds, and while I am still under my initial maintain weight of 147 I feel some old bad habits creeping in. I really felt like I had a good system of handling treats and healthy food before I went g-f, but since then I have been struggling a little.

I had a wakeup call when a good friend tagged me in a picture on facebook from about 5 years ago and I did not recognize myself. I will be honest, I was a little horrified. It's taken me a couple of days to process it.

And what I have come to--I need to report my weight for a couple of months to hold myself a little accountable. I am not unhappy with where I am right now--I feel very healthy. But my clothes are starting to get a little tight. And I don't like it. It scares me a little, to be honest.

Here is a picture of me in 2009 right before joining the January challenge:

I really do not want to go back to that place. I was not happy. I was not active and I did not feel good about myself. Someone I met the other day asked me if I was a runner cause I looked like a runner. It was such an awesome compliment. That is the body I want to take care of and be responsible to--the healthy me.

Hi Rose! I totally know how you feel about being tagged on facebook! I just gained all my weight about 3 years ago and I am so embarrassed to be seen by people who haven't seen me like this yet. I even turned the tags off on facebook so that they don't show up on my profile. It's not a fun way to live! I gained 80 lbs in less then a year after having my first child! It almost makes me sick to actually say that! I have lost about 25 lbs now and a little over 18 of that was done in the last challenge. So I'm hoping to do something close to that again this challenge!

Hi! My name is Holly, and I think this is my second challenge. I have been trying to lose weight most of my life, and I really want this to be the time it sticks. I will finish C25K this week, so I am jogging pretty steady at 30 minutes, which is huge for me! I also follow WW, but at home since I can't afford to go to meetings. DH just finished his first year of vet school, which is exciting! I am a homeschool mom to DS6 and DS4. Love homeschooling so far. I don't have specific goals set for this challenge, other than DON'T QUIT!! :) Hope you all are having a fabulous day!

Hi Holly! That's great that you homeschool! I give you a lot of credit for that! :thumbsup2

Sorry I am a little late in replying, I just woke up. I am a bit backwards on some days as I am a nightshift RN. My name is Jen, but since there is so many Jen's you can always just use Lee and I will try and clue in. I am 43 and a single mom of two amazing kids. My son who is turning 17 in September and my lil princess who is going to be 3 in July. We just moved to Florida three months ago and so far love it. Most here were annoyed by tropical storm Beryl, but my kids and me loved watching it. I still can't believe I am only 2 hours from Disney World, took my lil princess for first visit this month and she LOVED it. She keeps asking to go back. I think next trip will be in October for the halloween parties. This is my first challenge and I am hoping to hit Onederland with it. I saw somebody use that term and I liked it. On my own I have lost about 30lbs in a year. Hard fought ones too, so I am hoping this challenge helps. I am looking forward to this and getting to know all of you

Hi Jen/Lee! :) Congrats on the 30 lbs so far!! This challenge will really help you stay focused!! We will be visiting DW in October too! I can't wait to go the halloween party!! :yay:

Hi all,
This is my first BL challenge so I'm really excited to start.

My name is Victoria and I'm a loooooonnnnnggg way from my goal weight but one step at a time. I'm twenty nine and single but starting to look for that DBF so we'll see what happens.

I started losing weight when I was training for my first triatholn last year and am in training for my second one now. Yep, that's right I ran a tri when I was over 300lbs. And I didn't finish last!:woohoo: I am crazy excited to do my next one this september as long as work dosen't get in the way.

I work in theatre and film in NYC and am currently working on a huge musical but we posted closing for the 24th of june. I've got some leads on a few fall shows and if those don't pan out it's the Radio City Christmas Show for me. Oh, I do wardrobe so I get to play with all the pretty costumes everyday.:dance3:

It's great to meet everyone here and I hope that this summer is productive and fun!
Cheers

UH, jealous!!! That is my most favorite NYC show ever!!! Last years show was so cool! I took my mom and DD, but this year I want to take the whole family, I know the boys will love it!

Awesome job on the Tri! That is cool too. I want to do a marathon at Disney but I don't think I'm ready yet.

Well gang, I am heading to bed so I can get up early. I get to officially be the first to start the challenge as I am 6 hours ahead of the East Coast.

With sunrise at 5:44 I is already getting light by 5 so getting up early will be easier than in the winter.

I have been getting so excited by reading the posts. There are some truly inspirational people here that I met during he last challenge and I am also really chuffed by the newbies to this challenge whether completely new to the BL challenge or have done one long ago. We are really in for a great summer and I anticipate great numbers adding up (or should I say, falling off) as we go along.

And so glad to see that TOM has made an appearance before we get started. :scared1:  For those of you who were not on Team Donald this Spring, it took me a few weeks to realize that TOM was not another male participant. Sorry ladies, I will do my best as what appears to be the token guy of the group.

That being said, tinkerbye, I was able to decipher what show you are working on and I would be on a plane in a heartbeat to come try on your costumes if I could. Saw the show in London 2 summers go! OMG
AWESOME!:cool1:

See you all in the morning!

Christopher

Congrats on doing a triatholn.

I am in central jersey and a real theater person here. I have worked on costumes for the local high school (not the one I teach at) for the last 12 years. I have also done some work for a local community theater group when they get stuck. For 10 hours I get 2 free tickets. I just did the head guard's coat for Wizard of Oz.

What show is closing in June?

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself

Hello everyone. My name is Leslie and this is my second BL challenge..the first was two summers ago when I lost about 18 pounds, and then I sorta of lost my way for a while in regards to Weight Loss. But I am back raring to go!

I am a 40 something wife and mother of two boys (22 and 14). I work for a PBM and am lucky enough to work from home, which i have been doing for 6 1/2 years. We live in Houston, but I am from Florida originally. Texas is home now, and I don't plan to move unless I absolutely have to.

My weight issues started after DS2, but it has been way too long to blame it on the baby weight. Up and down, mostly up, which has got to stop.

In April I decided I wanted to buy a bike, because walking to me is boring, I don't run well due to an old ankle injury, and exercising in front of the TV is okay, but I really wanted to get outside. DH thought it sounded like a good idea so we both got bikes.
The first ride was murder, I didn't even go a mile before I had to stop the first time, and I made it only 2.5 miles that first day. Since then, I found the Monthly Exercise Minutes thread here on the WISH board and set myself a goal for May. I am happy to say in addition to exercising (mostly bike rides) 1000+ minutes, I completed a 15 mile bike ride last Saturday, and, most importantly I lost 7 pounds!:banana:

DH and I go on bike rides at least 3 nights a week together, plus I do a Saturday ride while he is at work. It is nice to have that time with him, without the distractions of the house, dinner, tv, etc to get in the way.

I am looking forward to this summer challenge! I would really like to repeat my weight loss from May over the next three months and lose 20 pounds ...but I have a cruise on the Fantasy coming up, plus a week at my sister's house (she is a great cook and she cooks to feed an army!) so I know, while I am going to thoroughly enjoy my vacation, it will be a whole different kind of challenge!!

Looking forward to a great summer getting to know all of you!!

Leslie

So this is for all you new runners:

If you run, then you are a runner.

I think women especially get told a lot that they are "joggers" or not "real" runners whatever that means.

But for all you starting out, If you run, then you are a runner.:goodvibes

Thanks for the great quote, Rose! :teeth:

You'll be done with the C25K before you know it, Renee! Sorry the scale isn't cooperating but you might as well save that big "whoosh" for next week anyway! :thumbsup2

Quote of the Day

Cultivating inner discipline is something that takes time: Expecting rapid results is simply a sign of impatience. ~ Dalai Lama

Another great quote, Buffy! :goodvibes

Hope DS is feeling better soon! :flower3:

Good morning! My name is Jennifer, and I'm a 44 yo SAHM to 2 kids (dd almost 15 and ds 8). This is my third challenge, though I haven't been active on the threads. It's hard to keep up with you all, and I feel guilty if I don't respond to everyone, so I tend to keep quiet. But I really like the accountability, support and ideas I get from Biggest Loser challenges.

Hi Jennifer! :wave2:

That is one of the nice things about the challenge is that you can participate as much or as little as you have time for. A lot of people just do replies for the current page.

Kristina, hope your pets settled down for you. :goodvibes

Hi Laura! Nice to see you! :flower3: Can't wait to help you celebrate your arrival into One-derland this summer. We won't let you slip away this time now that we know where to find you. ;)

I'm getting married in October. My dress came in a little over a week ago, so I'm hoping that after this challenge I will be able to have my dress taken in a little bit!!

Ooo, a Disney-moon! Sounds wonderful! :bride::groom: Can't wait to hear all about it!

Well gang, I am heading to bed so I can get up early. I get to officially be the first to start the challenge as I am 6 hours ahead of the East Coast.

Christopher, congrats on being our first starter! :goodvibes It is tough being our only guy but how lucky you are to be hanging out with all the ladies! ;)

:rotfl2: Christopher. Sorry about TOM!!! He's a bad bad man!! We like you better!!!

:lmao::lmao::lmao: We will try to remember to rein it in!

Hi Leslie! Nice to see you! :flower3: Great job on the biking!

One of the things I like best about the challenges is hearing about all the different activities everyone is trying. You never know when you might learn about your new favorite exercise! :goodvibes

If I've missed anyone in my replies, I apologize! :flower3:
