Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

QOTD Friday, June 1, 2012: So do you have a plan for how you are going to make your goals for the challenge? Share your plan and your goals big and small for this challenge.

My goals are
1)Lose 1 pound a week so that equals 13 pounds over the course of the challenge.
2)Finish C25K and run a 5K. (We are registered for a 5K June 23)
3)Start cooking dinner 1 day a week outside of Nutrasystem.

My plan is to keep up with Nutrasystem, running 3 days a week by finishing C25K then moving on to 10K training, yoga at least 4 days a week, 30 day shred at least 3 days a week, drink LOTS of water (I live in South Texas so we are already in the 90s). I am also signed up for a Strength and Sculpt class starting Tuesday and a Zumba class starting Thursday.

I am looking at Nutrasystem as a way to help me learn how to eat better. I hate the fact that all my food is coming out of a box with detailed instructions on how to and what to eat. But I also recognize that I need that right now. I really hope I can meet goal #3 and make great healthy meals for DH and I.

There are at least 2 other races I will be signing up for but they are not until the fall. I will be looking for one in July and one for August.

I will throw in my long term goals.
I want to run a half marathon within the next year. I would love to run a Disney race but the timing wont get us to WDW until at least 2014.
I want to lose 50+ pounds and maintain the weight loss. I am not in any rush right now to lose it. 1 pound a week is making me very happy and I know that is the best way to do it.
I need to learn to cook healthy. There are very few things I can cook and most are not too good for you! I would be so happy if I could find a healthy cooking class in my area.

Good morning all!

I am at my desk at work already with my first class of students arriving for their music lesson in about 10 minutes. If the weather here is any indication, it is going to be a GREAT DAY!! So I am starting it off (as some of you are jsut heading to bed) with the intention of sending the really good vibes through the day and across the Atlantic to you.

PM to Sue. Check......not so good I am afraid...refound some of those pounds that disappeared last challenge.....but sure am glad to have this challenge to get me going again.

PM to Janis. Check....joined last challenge 2 weeks in so never really got onto the WIN measuring. But this time I am raring to go. I even remembered to convert my measurements from centimeters to inches.

QOTD.....will have a good think about that and post after lunch when I have more time. But I will say, I feel well planned for my day today in order to make it a successful start. (And as I write this I am listening to the Main Street Welcome Song.....thanks for the inspiration Lisa!)

HH....Wow, really awesome way to start CC. All very achievable mini-challenges but at the same time extremely thought provoking and will definitely help anyone who puts the effort into completing them a great jump start and should ensure success this challenge! I just am trying to figure out the laundry detergent as well:confused3

Have a great day my friends.:thumbsup2

ChelleyB thank you :) it was hard work, but semester done now. You are totally right about that water thing. It is hard. Your body has to get used to accepting that much water. Takes it a bit. I like flavoring mine with crystal lite packets. Or sugar free tea. I know people say those don't count, but I think they should. Congrats on your weight loss so far. I hope you have a great time with DD over summer. That is good age for lots of fun.

Mary Poppins that is awesome screenname. It is practically perfect (bet you never heard that before LOL) thank you for letting me brag. I never thought I could get 4.0, but I did. Now if I could just apply that oomph to weight lose, I would be golden.

Jujubee727 after halloween party I am definitely going to go to the MVMCP. I am loving fact that we live so close now to Mickey's place. We just did Spring and Garden Show, and I think if we time it right we should get a bit of the Food & Wine festival with the MNSSHP this year. It is nice getting to do all those events I only read about before. Congratulations on the upcoming wedding!!! Also way to go on the 18 lbs lost, that is amazing. I want to be you for this challenge :)

Hi D73 :) I liked the mickey mouse blood cells image *LOL* What did you do as a cast member?

QOTD Friday, June 1, 2012: So do you have a plan for how you are going to make your goals for the challenge? Share your plan and your goals big and small for this challenge.

My plan is to stay active in here for the accountability. I am a wee bit competetive, so I am hoping this helps me out as I try and win Biggest Loser title LOL. Goals are to make it to Onederland by end of summer, which might possibly be doable if I am VERY GOOD. So I am going to focus on portion control, making better choices in what I eat, drinking more water, and cut out late night snacking (I think that is what is doing me in). hmmm small goal, I guess would be get out and be more active with my DD. She is 2, soon to be 3, and is a homebody LOL I need to keep her active so she doesn't grow up to be like me. Oh and make sure I take my daily vitamin. I gots Tinkerbell ones :tinker: is my daily dose of Disney.

Good Friday morning everyone.

Welcome to all new and old members of the challenge.

I am usually on right after Chris. I am an early riser even when I am on vacation.

My goal for this summer is to get moving more. If I can lose weight I will be happy but I need to get my exercise back on track especially walking since I will be going to DW in Aug.

I am off from school today since I have to travel to Philladelphia for my nephew's wedding. It is a 4 wedding in some sort of garden area south of philly. (doesn't any get married in a church anymore?) The reception is about 10 miles away but it is associated with hotel that we are staying at tonight. My bil and his family are staying at a different hotel so we can only talk at the wedding. I am looking forward to the wedding but I really don't like receptions. It can be so long and drawn out and my dh HATES to dance. I will only know about 15 people at the party so I will run out of small talk pretty quickly. It will be nice to see my ds's all dressed up . Ds1 is in the wedding party.

OK it is a huge bit of bragging, but since I did it, I can brag. Just finished first semester of grad school with 4.0 :cool1:

Now taking the summer off to focus on getting a bit healthier. Main goal = make it thru the whole challenge. Sounds so simple, but we all know something always comes up that seems more important than exercise or watching what we eat. :confused3 Going to try to do all the suggestions thrown out there by you guys. After this post will figure out how many ounces my water glass handles, and make sure I am drinking. Will also designate a notebook to keeping track of everything fitness related. One this I can't figure out is what is with the laudry detergent???

.

Congrats on your first semester of grad school. Both of my ds's are starting grad school this month. Ds1 is only taking 1 class but he has not taken a class for a couple of years. Ds2 is taking 2 but he just graduated May 11th. I think his first class is a bit of challenge. It is Partial Differential Equations. Yes it is as hard as it sounds.

I agree with you about the laundry detergent.

Quote of the Day

Cultivating inner discipline is something that takes time: Expecting rapid results is simply a sign of impatience. ~ Dalai Lama

********************

Sorry I'm late with the Quote of the Day. DS15 is really sick but insisted on going to school (Final exams preview) so we've been texting back and forth as to wether he should go to the nurse or not. I tried to talk him out of going but he wasn't hearing it.
I need to call the Dr back today too, I'm not happy with the other Dr that we saw yesterday. Could be pneumonia, could be Lyme, or could be a virus. Did a chest x-ray but there "was some fluid around the lungs but not enough to worry about" didn't do a blood draw to test for Lyme. WTH?!?!? So we just sit here and wait with 103 degree fevers???

As for me:
Headache is better. I think it was just the heat and not wanting to eat because it was hot.
Today I finally got all the park hours for our Disney trip in Dec, so I'm starting with a basic touring plan and need to work on Dining ideas!
I have got to get moving!! 21 days until I can make ressies. Making ressies for 12, not an easy thing to do!

Hope ds is feeling well enough to take his exams.

We just set up ressies for 12 for this upcoming Aug. It wasn't too bad. We even got LeCellier. A few of ours at 1:30 or 2 for lunch. I know we have a 5 at The Plaza and a 5 for Trails End (my family loves FW). We are also going to be at the new one at Italy.

Good luck to everyone.

I won't be back on until later this weekend.

Have a happy and healthy day.

QOTD Friday, June 1, 2012: So do you have a plan for how you are going to make your goals for the challenge? Share your plan and your goals big and small for this challenge.

I agree that a plan is absolutely essential for this or any challenge particularly when it involves seeking a healthier life. As a teacher I have become accustomed to plan my lessons with the learning goal being identified first and then identifying the activities that are necessary to help the students reach that goal. So, I am transferring that process to my plan here.

Goals:
°At the end of the challenge, I would like to be 10% lighter than I am at the start.
°At the end of the challenge, I would like to be purchasing shirts/pants that are 2 sizes smaller than what I am wearing now.
°At the end of this challenge, I would like to be able to increase my fitness level from being a walker to being a runner.

Plan to get me to these goals:

Nutrition:
°I will continue to follow the Dukan Diet in regards to choosing my foods. This was successful for me in the last challenge.
°I also commit to using myfitnesspal as the means of tracking my calories, water consumption, and measurements.
°I will stock my refridgerator and shelves with the foods that I am permitted to eat to ensure that I have healthyoptions at anytime that I find myself needing a snack or meal.

Fitness:
°I will return to the gym with the minimum visits being 3 per week.
°I will use the Couch to 5K application to move me to the status of runner.

Accountability:
°I will read this thread daily throughout the challenge and will commit to post at least once each day if even just to answer the QOTD.
°I will participate in all HH and the WIN during this summer’s challenge.
°I will seek out other participants who are using myfitnesspal and use this as a means of encouraging myself and them.
°I will commit to serving as coach for one week of the challenge to help keep me moving toward my goals.

I guess that is it for now......seems a lot looking back but I know the well defined plan is what I need to get me to those goals.

Christopher

Thanks Christopher for writing this! This is something I need to work on myself. Far too often I don't buy enough of the good stuff and get hungry and end up eating junk. :confused3

QOTD Friday, June 1, 2012: So do you have a plan for how you are going to make your goals for the challenge? Share your plan and your goals big and small for this challenge.

I put my intro a few pages back, in short, down 52 pounds since last year...needing to lose 60ish more this year.

I keep calories under 1500, exercise at least five hours a week (3 miles walking fast, swimming laps, and working with horses)

Food...I eat every 2 hours, go to snacks are blueberries (really any kind of berry), almonds, slice of cheese, and I try to make my meals consist of 2-3 veggies and a protein, multigrains about once a day...

I drink honestly when I am thirsty and only water and about 3x a week unsweet tea. Gave up diet sodas last year...best decision! I am going to try and cut down or watch my sodium more closely and add a glass of water..some days, I only have three and that can not be enough.

Got to go weigh and measure!! Good luck everyone! Such a great network of encouragers!:yay:

Good morning everyone :goodvibes

It's time for another challenge. I will be your weight-keeper again this summer, so we're all set to go. I have received a number of starting weights already, so please keep them coming :thumbsup2

Please send me your starting weight this weekend along with a goal if you have one that you'd like me to track.

It's so good to see so many new names on the boards and old familiar friends

So, as a quick introduction, my name is Sue, I'm 35 years old and I live in Danvers, MA with my DH and DS who will be 3 one month from now. I'm a CPA and get killed with work during tax season, so I like to vacation as much as possible when I'm not working. But who doesn't right :rotfl:

This is my 5th challenge I believe and my 3rd or 4th as weight-keeper. I think I lost track :rotfl2:

The last challenge was tough for me with tax season and I didn't really get to where I wanted to be with my weight, so I'm hoping for a good start to the summer challenge.

I'm going to try and post more within the actual thread this time in addition to posting the weekly results, so here's to a great challenge everyone :cheer2:

Dona--Happy Belated Birthday!!!!! :goodvibes

Sue--Thank you so much for being the weight keeper!

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself

Hi everyone!
My name is Michelle and I'm super excited to be joining the summer challenge!!! I participated in the last challenge and did really well. I'm about 40% to my goal and am looking forward to losing more weight and inches this challenge.

I live in the NW burbs of Chicago. I have been married to my sweetheart, Jon, for almost 9 years and we have a cutie patootie, Karen, DD6. I'm a SAHM am loving that DD is on summer holidays. I've missed her!

Best wishes to everyone on the challenge! :goodvibes

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

I'm Reenie. I live in the Chicago suburbs with my DH and our 3 kids - DS almost 16, DD 13, and DS 8. My spring and summers seem to revolve around baseball as both my boys play. I work full time and commute to the city most days. I do get some exercise each day as I have a 7 block walk from the train to the office I work at.

Ok nieghbors:flower3:....I live about 60 miles south of Chicago :) Some day we will have to meet up!

I am trying to catch up on emails from work as I was off the past 2 days AND catch up on everyone here :) Have to run to a meeting but will be back soon.

QOTD Friday, June 1, 2012: So do you have a plan for how you are going to make your goals for the challenge? Share your plan and your goals big and small for this challenge.

Goals:
My long term goal is to lose 30lbs
My goal for this challenge is to lose 15lbs
Feel comfortable in my clothes!

Exercise:
I plan on continuing with C25K 3 days a week and then alternate between zumba for the wii and 30 day shred. I also joined the June exercise challenge on the WISH board, so I'm hoping that will help with my accountability this challenge.

Nutrition:
I am also going to start using my Lose-It app to count calories, make sure to drink all 8 glasses of water, and eat more veggies.

Accountability:
Stay more active on the thread! I think this is where I started to fail last challenge. I am coaching one of the last weeks of this challenge; and my goal with this is that I'm kinda "forced" to keep up with what is going on and know what QOTD have been asked. :thumbsup2

******************************************************
Sent my weigh in to Sue and I'm happy to say it is lower then what it was yesterday, but still about 4lbs heavier then where I was at when I quit the last challenge.

Not sure "Sassy Water" is for me... Or maybe I let it sit too long. :confused3
I will continue to drink it for the 4 days, to see if I notice any change. I got a new bottle to hold my water last night that holds about 35oz, so once I put ice in, it can hold 32oz.

DH and I went to our first hurricane preparedness meeting last night, it was interesting. They're saying since LA hasn't had a hurricane since 2008, we're due for one. I didn't have the heart to tell them since The Virata's are here, they're due for one. In our 3 short years in MD we saw numerous 100 year records broken and had 3 blizzards, earthquakes, a tornado, tropical storm Irene, and the hottest summer on record... :rolleyes1 Yes, we're a bad omen for weather.

Hope everyone has a good weigh in today and remember its just the start!

QOTD Friday, June 1, 2012: So do you have a plan for how you are going to make your goals for the challenge? Share your plan and your goals big and small for this challenge.

My goal is to lose *something* each week, to exercise everyday, and to stay on the WW program every day, and not loose my mind on the weekends.

My plan to obtain these goals are to: make time to exercise everyday by looking at my calendar every Sunday, and determine when I can get my exercise in. Make sure I never get too H.A.L.T. (too hungry, angry, lonely, or tired) to make proper healthy choices by planning my meals and snacks so I always have good food available to me. I'll stay on the WW program every day by reviewing my materials, getting to my weekly meetings, and staying accountable to everyone here!

Happy Friday morning friends! I'm here, but of course, in a hurry! I've made the beds and everyone has eaten and gotten hustled out the door. I had a nice talk with my Mom, hung out a load of towels, and have a second load just finished and ready to hang..... so I'm off and running!

I'll take a minute to read back a few pages, but as usual, we are off with a BANG and I am several pages behind already!

I need to get moving, so I'll read a bit, reply a bit, and then hustle away! TTYL................P

Good morning all and welcome to the first official day of the Biggest Loser Sizzlin' Hot Summer Challenge! :beach:

Please be sure to PM your starting weight to dvccruiser76 and your starting WIN! number to Janis, if you are doing WIN!.

CC has done a great job getting off to an excellent start for HH -- everyone should be getting HH points this week! ::yes::

QOTD Friday, June 1, 2012: So do you have a plan for how you are going to make your goals for the challenge? Share your plan and your goals big and small for this challenge.

I have a bad habit of forgetting to answer my own QOTD. :confused3

My big goal for this challenge is to get into the 170's. That will get me close to my goal weight which is where I want to be by the time I go for my Coast-to-Coast medal at the Wine & Dine Half in November. :goodvibes
I'm going to do the same things I did when I was the biggest loser in the Fall challenge -- track everything on MFP and scrupulously follow my training schedule. I am also going to add one stretch and tone class (like yoga) and at least one strength workout to my exercise plan.

Welcome to Healthy Habits Week 1: Let's Get Ready for the Trip!

Love the mini-challenges this week, CC! :thumbsup2 Like a good teacher, you have us all intrigued and paying attention wondering about the laundry detergent! ;)

Wow, how many "Jen's" are we up too now?
So ready to get moving on this challenge! Am going to measure tonight ( which is probably not a good idea after the day I have had" and weigh tomorrow.

:lmao: Yes, this does seem to be the "Jen" challenge!

Good luck with the measuring! Just think how happy you will be as those numbers start going down!

Rose, great advise for Jen on the family thing! :thumbsup2

I do, I do! I have a plan! My big goal is to finish the summer (which contains three total weeks of vacation (2 trips)) with a maintain or a gain of no more than two pounds.

You do have a great plan, Liz! ::yes::

OK it is a huge bit of bragging, but since I did it, I can brag. Just finished first semester of grad school with 4.0

:woohoo: Congratulations!

My name is Michelle and I'm super excited to be joining the summer challenge!!! I participated in the last challenge and did really well. I'm about 40% to my goal and am looking forward to losing more weight and inches this challenge.

Hey Buffy, I think I figured it out. See if I friended you. (Or it could be some random person ... LOL!)

:lmao: I think it was the right one -- I sent you a friend request, too.

I loved working in DS's elementary school -- the kids are so entertaining! Of course, now that DS is in middle school I am not permitted to get any closer to the school than around the corner and I must stay in the car at all costs. :rotfl2:

Hi Reenie! :wave2: I think you should get extra credit for walking around in work clothes, especially high heels. ;)

My long term goal is to lose 75 pounds. My small goals include :
- Losing 20 pounds by the end of this challenge
- Taking my kids outside more for physical activity
- Drinking at least 5 glasses of water a day

I'm on my way to healthier living!

:woohoo: You are on your way! :yay:

QOTD Friday, June 1, 2012: So do you have a plan for how you are going to make your goals for the challenge? Share your plan and your goals big and small for this challenge.

My goals for this summer are to lose twenty pounds, start run/walking instead of just walking during my training and to do at least seven of the nine workouts I'm schedualed to do each week for my up coming triathlon. My plan is to take one day at a time, because if I look at the big picture it looks a little crazy!

::yes:: Absolutely!

My goals are
1)Lose 1 pound a week so that equals 13 pounds over the course of the challenge.

Good Morning everyone! Like I suspected my weight was up a little this morning since I slacked off the past couple of weeks. I am going to restart the C25K program today. It will be my second time completing it. I want to be able to go at a faster pace this time around.
My weight loss goal for this challenge is going to be 20 pounds!!

I'm walking right down the middle of Main Street USA-a-a . . . it's the heart of America, the heartbeat of a holiday-ay-ay-ay! The place was made with a magical plan . . .

We all know a trip to the Happiest Place on Earth starts with a little trip right down Main Street USA. ::MickeyMo

How many times have you been on Main Street and seen some poor group of people standing right in the middle of the street staring at a map and trying to figure out where they are going to go. We Disboards big time planner types know that you can't get where you want to go without a great PLAN.

And those of you who have done the challenges before know that I can't coach without help from one of my favorite sites sparkpeople.com And this week is no exception. :goodvibes

Which brings me to the topic of goal setting. It's not enough to have a goal but you need a plan for how you are going to get there. Here is an excerpt from a sparkpeople article called Do's and Don'ts of Goal Setting:

Goal achievement, especially when it comes to health and fitness, can be a mystery. Most of us have no trouble with setting the goal. Setting a goal is the easy part, it's those other steps that can be a puzzle. But you CAN turn achieving your goals into a science with the right strategies. Here are a few of our favorites:

DO create a plan. DON’T wait for "someday" to roll around.

DO start small. DON’T focus on too many things at once.

DO write it down. DON’T forget to give yourself a deadline.

DO be specific. DON’T deal in absolutes.

DO leave room for failure. DON’T expect perfection.

DO track your progress. DON’T fool yourself into failure.

DO reward your success. DON’T beat yourself up over failure.

DO find a support system. DON’T try to do it alone.

DO make a commitment. DON’T ever forget that you can do it.

Let's get this party started! party:party:party:

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT way to start this new summer challenge! You know me, I LOVE a good plan! I'm going to think on it a bit and post my "official" plan later.

BTW, now I'll be singing that song in my head all day long! When I sub for the music teacher I often play an old Disney Sing-A-long video for the kids and I love the Disneyland one that has that song! I'm picturing it in my head now!

I've read most everything I've missed, but truly no time this morning to do lots of read/replies, so big sorry to everyone.

Off to hang laundry, take a walk/run, hit the shower, and maybe get some scrapping done! TTYL......................P

From my understanding of weather here in Florida, most of the rain comes in the late afternoon and doesn't last long time.

Short term goals:
Lose 10 pounds for the Summer Challenge
Kick my chocolate habit (Kicked soda 7 months ago, I can do this!)
Be more consistent with my Quotes for this challenge
Get down 1 pants size

Long term goals:
Lose 53 - 58 pounds (includes the 10 above)
run a full 5K with no walking breaks
Run/walk a 1/2 marathon
Run/walk a full marathon
Shop for regular clothes in a regular store

Plan:
continue using MyFitnessPal consistently
Continue to be brutally honest while using MFP

keep my kitchen clean to promote eating in
use my scale

Exercise:

QOTD Friday, June 1, 2012: So do you have a plan for how you are going to make your goals for the challenge? Share your plan and your goals big and small for this challenge.

Ok well my ultimate goal is to lose 18 pounds, that would put me at 150. But realistically I know I won't lose that much in this challenge, but I'd be thrilled if I could lose one pound a week. I am really going to work hard. I plan to be active EVERY SINGLE DAY even if it's just a little walk on my rest days. My son is 10 and he's very athletic (already planning to run a marathon someday!) so I would love to be able to run a 5k with him. He can do it now, but I cannot. My biggest issue is with eating. I have got to figure out a way to choose fruits and vegies over candy bars. Right now my plan is just not to bring the bad stuff into the house :lmao: I can do that! I'm just always hungry. Oh I also got a new app called My Net Diary that I am using to track my food and activity. We'll see how that goes.

Christopher, I loved your post on your goals, it really made me think about how I could use them to help me.
