Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

I want to say a big WELCOME to all the newbies!! These ladies and gents are an awesome motivator to keep you on track. The last challenge I lost the most weight I've ever lost during a challenge, 8.2 pounds!!

My name is Kristina and I'm in a relationship with Alan. He's been a big part of my life since the passing of my husband and daughter in 2008. This will be I believe my 4th challenge (I've lost count).

We moved to central FL last fall and I have to say I LOVE IT! I've lived in TX most of my life and yeah it gets warm here but nothing like North Texas. I chuckle when they say "It is going to be a balmy 95 degrees." PFFFT, 95 is a cold front in TX during the summer.

Oh, and let's not forget the important part of my move, I'm 15 minutes from Disney World ::MickeyMo. Within the last few weeks we've started a weekly tradition of going over to the resorts (mainly Grand Floridian) and relaxing and then having dinner somewhere on Disney property. Last weekend it was Kona Cafe. I'm not sure if we'll get the chance this weekend. Its been raining pretty much daily for the last week or so.

My goals for this challenge:

Get into ONEDERLAND!! (as of this morning I'm 4.5 pounds away)

Lose 12 pounds -- This one is important because I've finally realized after working on my weight loss since last October that my body is the speed of a tortiose when it comes to losing weight. However, I may be finding out the culprit of that in a few days. My primary care doctor believes I could have PCOS. One of the symptoms of PCOS is weight gain and I've heard from many friends who have it that losing weight can be a real pain in the tush.

Okay, now that this is the length of a novel I'll end it!!

Hi! I'm Rose and I'm in as a Loser for the Summer. I had a little reality check last week, and decided I needed to buckle down again.

I am 44 and started doing the challenges in 2010, even running a couple of challenges. I work part time for a non-profit, am married, mom to an almost 21yo DS.

In 2010 I lost 42 pounds and went to maintain at 147. I then lost about 10 more pounds and got down as low as 137 in April of 2011. (I am 5'7".) By the time I got to 137 I was pretty sick--turns out I have a pretty nasty gluten intolerance. I do not officially have c-d--I stopped having tests done when I started immediately feeling better after giving up gluten.

Anyhow, I have put on a few pounds, and while I am still under my initial maintain weight of 147 I feel some old bad habits creeping in. I really felt like I had a good system of handling treats and healthy food before I went g-f, but since then I have been struggling a little.

I had a wakeup call when a good friend tagged me in a picture on facebook from about 5 years ago and I did not recognize myself. I will be honest, I was a little horrified. It's taken me a couple of days to process it.

And what I have come to--I need to report my weight for a couple of months to hold myself a little accountable. I am not unhappy with where I am right now--I feel very healthy. But my clothes are starting to get a little tight. And I don't like it. It scares me a little, to be honest.

Here is a picture of me in 2009 right before joining the January challenge:
IMG_1199.jpg

I really do not want to go back to that place. I was not happy. I was not active and I did not feel good about myself. Someone I met the other day asked me if I was a runner cause I looked like a runner. It was such an awesome compliment. That is the body I want to take care of and be responsible to--the healthy me.:goodvibes

Ok so since I have already been posting here figured I could do a short intro...
My name is Jen, wife to 1 and mom to 3. This is my first challenge however I have been chating on the BL Princess race thread for a while. I would love to drop 30 lbs during the challenge. I have a conf that I am presenting at in Sept in Aneheim....and you know what lives there so I have a few reasons to drop the weight.

I have walked a few 5K's but would really like to get to a point where I can run one and eventually do a Disney race.

Am excited about the challenge and looking forward to getting up an running!

My goal is to someday do a Disney race, too! :)

I am so excited to see that so many of you plan to participate in Healthy Habits! I am making it my goal to earn a lot more points this challenge. Please remember that it is participation that counts. You can chose to focus on a particular mini-challenge or a couple of them if you WISH. I know something I struggle with is eating enough fruits and veggies, so on a week where I make eating them a mini-challenge, that might be the only point I earn. The purpose of Healthy Habits is not to earn every point (though it's wonderful if you do), but to develop life-long habits that are beneficial to your health. I also don't focus on just your physical health. I try to do something each week that helps your emotional health. The Summer Challenge will also have some mini-challenges that focus on organizing and financial health. I am a huge advocate for all-around health and try to incorporate as much into Healthy Habits as possible. I hope that you find the mini-challenges helpful!

LOVE that we are also going to incorporate finances/organizing, too!!

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

Hi! My name is Holly, and I think this is my second challenge. I have been trying to lose weight most of my life, and I really want this to be the time it sticks. I will finish C25K this week, so I am jogging pretty steady at 30 minutes, which is huge for me! I also follow WW, but at home since I can't afford to go to meetings. DH just finished his first year of vet school, which is exciting! I am a homeschool mom to DS6 and DS4. Love homeschooling so far. I don't have specific goals set for this challenge, other than DON'T QUIT!! :) Hope you all are having a fabulous day!

Hi Jen! :wave2: You win the prize for answering the QOTD before it was even posted. ;)

Thanks so much for hostessing HH, CC. :thanks: I know that I always do better when I am doing HH than when I am not.

I am Christopher and this will be my second challenge. I did really well on the challenge from January through March losing nearly 50 pounds. Then I went on back to back Disney Cruises which were wonderful. I managed to keep my exercise going and returned with only 2 pounds gained. But what I lost was my solid motivation to stick to a program. So I managed to basically maintain and nearly reach my final weight goal for the last challenge but did not quite make it.

Great loss for the Spring Challenge, Christopher! :thumbsup2 Thanks for volunteering to coach! :thanks: I was a CM at Disneyland myself. I sewed the names on the Mickey Mouse ears. :smickey:

Ok, I'll try it! I'll take week 8/17-8/23.

Thank you, too, VirataMama4, for taking on a coaching week! :flower3:

Hey all! I'm Buffy, BAMB, Mom, Hey You. I answer to all!
I'm 38.... wait.... no.... yeah 38 (the mind is going)
Married for 19 years to DH
I have 4 kids - see below, those are accurate representations of my spastic crew.
I'm a NAHM (never at home mom)
This is my umpteenth challenge (I lost count, see I told you the mind was going)
I'm still feeling my way through the weight loss maze, but with the help of my peeps here I can get there!
My role in the BL challenges is to send motivational quotes when I remember, but if you have one please feel free to share!!!

Thanks, Buffy, for doing the quotes! :flower3: I always look forward to them.

For some reason, it's like I forget they exist...go figure :confused3 But I love them when I get them, I can't get enough! Does anyone else have this issue?

Hi Kaiti! How fun to have a Disney trip in the works!

I love roasted veggies although it is going to be too warm to do them in the oven soon. I like grilling them on the grill, too, but have trouble getting some things to cook without having them fall in the fire. For me concentrating on what is seasonal helps to remind us to eat those yummie veggies -- I really love our local farmers market but it will be awhile before they have much here.

Oh - and I get to go to the happiest place on earth in September :) Taking the kids for their birthdays - all three are in September - It's a surprise. Hardest secret to keep!!! So let's get healthy!

:welcome: Katie! Another September Disney traveller!

So, lots going on, but I loved doing this challenge last time and I look forward to joining you all again!! Success to all!!

Hi Lynda! :wave2: Nice to see you again. You do have a crazy, busy summer coming up for sure.

Hi I'm Amanda or Sissy. This will be my first BL challenge.

:welcome: Sissy! Do you have any preference on whether we call you Amanda or Sissy? You've done a great job so far on your own with your weight loss! :thumbsup2

I really look forward to getting to know all of you and making some friends while on this journey!

:welcome: Jessica! This is a great place for support and ideas on this journey.

I want to say a big WELCOME to all the newbies!! These ladies and gents are an awesome motivator to keep you on track. The last challenge I lost the most weight I've ever lost during a challenge, 8.2 pounds!!

Hi Kristina! Great loss for the Spring Challenge! ONE-derland is in your grasp for sure! ::yes::

Hi! I'm Rose and I'm in as a Loser for the Summer. I had a little reality check last week, and decided I needed to buckle down again.

Hi Rose! :wave2: Nice to see you! :flower3: I know that you will be back to a maintainer before the summer challenge is over.

It is so fun to read everyone's intros and get to know our fellow participants. :goodvibes

Sorry I am a little late in replying, I just woke up. I am a bit backwards on some days as I am a nightshift RN. My name is Jen, but since there is so many Jen's you can always just use Lee and I will try and clue in. I am 43 and a single mom of two amazing kids. My son who is turning 17 in September and my lil princess who is going to be 3 in July. We just moved to Florida three months ago and so far love it. Most here were annoyed by tropical storm Beryl, but my kids and me loved watching it. I still can't believe I am only 2 hours from Disney World, took my lil princess for first visit this month and she LOVED it. She keeps asking to go back. I think next trip will be in October for the halloween parties. This is my first challenge and I am hoping to hit Onederland with it. I saw somebody use that term and I liked it. On my own I have lost about 30lbs in a year. Hard fought ones too, so I am hoping this challenge helps. I am looking forward to this and getting to know all of you :goodvibes

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

Hey all, Carla Rae here :wave2:

I haven’t done a challenge on the dis for YEARS! Way back in the day, I used to run what is now HH (notice my tags:3dglasses).
Anyway a bit about me, Dh and I will be celebrating 11 years at WDW this fall. We just celebrated our 30th birthdays (April 10 for him and April 30 for me) at WDW last month. No kids just yet, tons of critters though! :cool1:
For this challenge, I will be tracking in myfitnesspal, walking at least 10,000 steps a day 6 days a week and once again trying C25K (I have never been able to complete the damn thing!)

I guess I will give you a little of my sob story…..
I have always been that proverbial 20 lbs overweight since I can remember. In college I gained that dreaded freshman 15 and just never lost it. About 4 years ago I guess, I started seeing a holistic doctor and got down to just shy of my goal weight. It was January at the time, but I bought a bikini and I was going to wear it that summer with pride! Then all hell broke lose, first I lost my job (the non-profit I worked for lost its funding and had to close. It had opened in 1948 so it was very sad), then 2 months later my father-in-law threw a seizure for the first time in his life and began throwing them every few minutes after that. My dh and I brought him to every specialist on the eastern seaboard. He spent time in 6 different hospitals. They did brain surgery twice. He started to lose his memory and then his mind (he went totally crazy like a movie psychotic). So during all of that, I ate junk because of lack of time and sleep and Ben and Jerry where my only solace for the living hell we were in. (Besides work, I was also in grad school at the time and spending every evening and weekend by his bedside). He passed away 18 months after his first seizure, on his 67 birthday no less. We still have no idea what happened to him.
Then we had a reprieve for just over three months. Life was beginning to get back to normal, but then disaster again. Thanksgiving 2010 my father wound up in the ICU. He put up a good fight against MRSA (he got from walking barefoot in his backyard and cutting his foot), but succumbed to the bacteria January 9th of last year at 64 years old. It took me a year to recover from the two major losses so close together, but almost exactly a year after my father's death, I once again planned to get myself under control. That normal for me "15 to 20 lbs overweight" had ballooned into almost exactly 100 lbs overweight since disaster one three years ago ! The first two months of the year, I lost 25 lbs and I was thrilled :cheer2:, but for the past 3 months I have been yo-yoing around the same number :sad2:. I am actually UP to having lost only 20 lbs so far this year! UGH! Oh well, Friday is a new day! :hippie:

So anyway if you managed to read through all that, go you! ;)

Hello fellow Losers! Just now getting onto the Dis' today - busy busy with end of school year events.

I'm Jennie, and this is my 1st Challenge. I'll actually be starting off the challenge in WDW - we'll be there June 8th-18th! I'm 18 pounds from my goal weight, and I'm training for my first half marathon. Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

My goal is to someday do a Disney race, too! :)

:welcome: Holly! Congratulations on starting the C25K. There are quite a few runners in our challenge. :goodvibes

Sorry I am a little late in replying, I just woke up. I am a bit backwards on some days as I am a nightshift RN. My name is Jen, but since there is so many Jen's you can always just use Lee and I will try and clue in.

:welcome: Jen! Our lovely hostess, Janis, is also a night shift person so you are in good company. :cool2:

Hey all, Carla Rae here :wave2:

:welcome: Carla Rae! So sorry for your losses. It sounds like it is definitely your turn to take care of you now. :flower3:

I forgot to mention that I am in the Pacific Time Zone so I will try to post my QOTD (Question of the Day) in the afternoon so you East Coast folks will have it in the morning. :cool2:

I am going to stick with the intro question for tomorrow because I think there may be a lot of folks out there who don't know we got excited and got an early start. :goodvibes

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

If you are new to the challenge you might be wondering What do I need to do for the start of the challenge?

On Friday, June 1st, PM (private message) your starting weight to our lovely weightkeeper dvccruiser76. Her name is Sue. She has her inbox cleaned out and ready for your messages. :goodvibes

On Friday, June 1st, you should also PM your starting WIN! (Whittle Inches Now!) numbers to our lovely hostess, buzz5985. Her name is Janis. Here is a link to the introductory info on WIN! http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=44925336&postcount=9

Be on the look out for the post from our lovely HH (Healthy Habits) coach, cclovesdis. You won't be sending CC a PM until next week unless you have an idea for HH or a question or just want to say "hello." Buffy!! Your family at the bottom cracked me up! hahaha!! Now I only have half of what you have, but I can totally relate to the husband, the oldest child (except mine is a girl who will be 13 in a month) and the 10 year old son!! Love it :rotfl2:
Lynda

Are they working? DH and DS15 were stuck earlier.

*************************************

Today was the last supper! I blew it on calories with bread and pasta for dinner. UGH, back on plan tomorrow to get ready for the weigh in on Friday.

My head hurts too. It's been hurting since yesterday, to much time in the heat. I guess I'm trying to feed the ache.

trying to decide if I should attempt to do something exercise related tonight.

QOTD- Intro

Hi Everyone! I figured its almost June 1, so its time for my introduction. :goodvibes

My name is Renee and this will be my 2nd challenge. I started the spring challenge on Team Donald, but fell far off the wagon in mid March when we moved and took a 3 week vacation. I'm ready and willing to finally hop back on and get this weight off. I want to lose a total of 30lbs, but my goal for this challenge is 15. I am doing C25K and am just finished week 3 day 1. I am hoping to do the Princess half in 2013, so I have a long way to go. princess:

I am a stay at home mom and DH is in the Navy. We have 2 kids that live with us full time and 2 that we usually get during the summer. This year my DSS will not be coming, since he is struggling with school and has to take summer classes. But my DNiece (15) is coming in July, so I will still have 4 kids this summer. :grouphug: We recently moved from Maryland to Louisiana and are trying to adjust to living in the heat of the South.

I can not wait for the Summer challenge to get rolling!

Since I jumped the gun in my excitement :cheer2: for the challenge to start, I thought I'd repost my intro and answer the QOTD for those that are just joining.

*****************************************************************

Hi Everyone ... I am hoping to have responded to everyone who posted to the QOTD.

My name is Fran.

The spring challenge was my first on the board. I lost 11.3 pounds (the most I have ever lost!) I am very eager to be on this board. I have a vacation to Key West the middle of July and I would love to lose a little more.

I am a teacher and have 8 more days of work left. However, I have a senior son this year and the graduation party is on June 15th. I would invite you all if you live close to Pittsburgh, PA (let me know if you live close....:goodvibes) After that, I feel the world will be off my shoulders.

I am married to the most wonderful man in the world! We have been married 22 years this August. We have 3 sons that I love to death. They all drive me CRAZY at times since I am the only female in my house and I am still trying to understand the male race. :lmao:

I have recently found running a pleasure. I ran my first 5K this spring and am signed up for another one in August. I am looking for a 1/2 marathon to train for in my area. My goal is to run the 10 mile TOT next year.

I am going to put a BIG plug in for coaching. The week I coached I lost weight. It wasn't as hard as it seems and I really felt I needed to give back to the wonderful people on this board. Really think about coaching .... WE NEED YOU! :goodvibes

Looking forward to knowing you all a bit better. Let the weight loss begin! :cheer2:

Intro QOTD (Question of the Day) 5/30/12: Please introduce yourself.

Okay! I'm Liz, I'll be 40 on August 1st, I'm married to my awesome DH (Eric), and we have two beautiful DDs (Anna, 7, and Tessa, 5). I've been working the same two jobs for 11 years (!), and I've been at one of them for 16 years. That doesn't even seem possible.

I've always struggled with my weight (put together with control/organizational issues, it's a challenge!). I've been doing WW for ages. I made lifetime in 2002 and maintained until I got pregnant with Anna in 2004. I gained 80 pounds with Anna, lost most of it, and then gained 60 with Tessa. I got all but the last 35 off. By the time I joined the spring challenge, I'd lost all but the last 20. Thanks in BIG part to the spring challenge, those pounds are gone, and I'm a maintainer now!

I started exercising much more seriously - interval work (Jillian Michaels, woo!) and running (something I *never* thought I'd do). I stuck with WW, which really helps me control what I'm eating. And now I'm back at goal, back at lifetime status, and so happy to be feeling this good!

We leave in a few weeks for the podcast cruise, followed by a week at AKL (1BR villa on rented points). DDs know about AKL - but not about the cruise. They're going to *flip!*

Are they working? DH and DS15 were stuck earlier.

Buffy, I love them, too! They crack me up every time. :)

Hey, Fran! I'm a new runner, too...got slowed by a broken toe this spring but am back on track - and DH and I are registered for this year's TOT 10-miler! And the Donald Half in January. They'll be my first long races, and I'm so excited (and not a little nervous). Lisa's right - lots of runner types here! :)

XO

I have my quote ready for tomorrow. It's very fitting for the Eve of the Great Summer Challenge.

Count me in! My name is Robbie & I'm 33. I have been married almost 16 years and have four kids: DD 14, DD 13, DD 11 & DS 9. I've been overweight since I was a teenager and after a health scare in March, I got myself into gear. I began weight watchers 3/23 and began walking three times a week soon after. 5/1 I began (and fell in love with) zumba. I FINALLY found the exercise that I enjoy! As of last Friday I am down 25 pounds. I have 75 to goal. Yesterday I bought jeans in the regular section. Good bye plus size! I'm looking forward to this challenge! Good luck everyone!

Thanks Liz! They are very accurate. DS15 is mouthy which frustrates DH. DS11 laughs at nothing all.the.time and he has the funniest laugh. We call him gigglebutt. DS10 was spastic until we started to medicate him, but he can still be crazy sometimes. And DD, well she's a princess/ballerina in training so hers was fitting too. Mine came from an old DIS'er from the Creative Community. She was my secret sister and I was doing some detective work trying to figure out who my Secret Sister was so she started calling me Sherlock and it kind of stuck.

How is the toe? Better? I thought of you the other day when I kicked a box barefoot. I thought for sure I broke my toe. I was like OMG poor Liz!! Now I know how bad she felt!

I'm so jealous that you get to do the ToT 10 miler. The medal looks so cool but by the time I saw it, the race was already sold out.

The toe is getting much, much better. I restarted my C25K app late last week because my orthopedist said I had to ease back into running, and those workouts are great with the intervals. Most of the time, the toe feels just fine. I notice it, but it's not painful except once in a while when I tweak it. I'm really glad I let the ortho do the bone reset - it looks just fine now, and the x-rays are much prettier!

And I'm so excited about ToT! DH and I decided to do it because we already had plans to be at WDW that weekend. We won a hotel review with Pete and Walter from the podcast at a Give Kids the World event last year, and that's the weekend! We'll be staying at Boardwalk. When we saw the race come up on RunDisney, we sort of knew we had to do it. :) It feels like a good milestone before my first half.

XO
Liz
