Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

I like to play things like Tetris & Solitare on electronic devices. I like to play cards with family/friends. I enjoy volleyball, although haven't played in a LONG time! I love to watch my children in any sport. I will watch basketball & soccer on television, but much prefer live games. Go Portland Trailblazers, Portland Timbers & US Womens Soccer!

One of my favorite characters is Mary Poppins. She is determined & gets a job done, while having fun. I am determined and yet enjoying myself throughout this process. Another favorite character is Snow White. She is sweet, innocent, beautiful, hard-working. I am working hard at this and the outcome is to be more beautiful physically.

I'm more than positive you are practically perfect in every way(;))...regardless of how you look now! But being able to have fun AND get the job done is a great quality.

WOOOHOOOOO!!! Congratulations!!

All of the above??? :confused3

Not sure I can say I have just ONE favorite Disney character. I love Buzz for believing he was a real SUPER HERO! He believed he could do ANYTHING. And after losing nearly 90 pounds and keeping them off, sometimes I feel like I could do anything!
TTYL.....P

THAT is pretty super!! It certainly sounds like you qualify to me!!

It has to have a good beat to it! I actually have a workout play list that varies from KISS, Aerosmith, Kenny Chesney, to the Black Eyed Peas. It really just depends on my mood. My most recent favorite is Kenny Chesney's new album. I finally got it onto my IPOD earlier today and was cleaning house while jamming out to it.

I love country music, I just can't work out to it-I always want to listen to the country music that talks about beaches and rum drinks...not too conducive to cleaning!

Evening Dear Friends!:goodvibes

Love this question! I have never played team sports but love to watch my son play and he has played everything I think. I love to watch almost all sports, live or on TV. I was a majorette with the marching band in HS so sorta like a team:confused3. I love love love cards, board games and puzzles like Buffy. Not into electronic games or Wi and no more puzzles with the kitties now.

I also love hip hop for exercise, also pop or top 40 type songs. I love that song "titanium" right now!

I think I am crazy like Stitch.....fell off the wagon a few months ago and can't get my head back to the place it was. I have finally stopped gaining and feel like that is under control. Now, to actually lose some!!!

Shawnprincess:

You can do it!! Just get crazy like Stitch in the opposite direction, is all ;)

Good luck to your son in making soccer this year- and congrats to his awesome GPA!!

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 6?

Congrats tiki23!!! Keep up the awesome work!!

I don't really have a favorite Disney character. I like them all lol. I will say that to reach my goals, I am pretty determined.

They all have some really great qualities...which is one of the reasons they must be so timeless! I need to channel my inner determined character myself and get back on the fast track!

Evening all. Massive headache so I'll just quickly say hi and bye. Won't be on til afternoon tomorrow...swim and driver's ed in morning.

First, I want to apologize for posting the QOTD at almost 10pm. I had really bad time management skills, and should have posted before work, and for that I am sorry.

One of the reasons I'm late is I attended my little town's Town Hall Meeting to support a ban on smoking and tobacco products in the parks. Regardless of how you feel (because it is a divisive issue), I am so in shock of the bickering and insult-throwing exhibited by my town's commissioners. It really makes me aware of what is going on in my town and opens my eyes to where I should be living instead. But tirading aside....

Tower of Terror!!!:scared:

One of my favorite shows really is the original Twilight Zone with Rod Serling, and I am so excited to be able to run in the Inaugural ToT 10miler race this September. One of the things I'm most looking forward to is the on-track entertainment and the party afterwards.

If you've ever been to a Disney Race, is something like that (the parties and what-not) a motivating factor when compared to a local race?

If you're not a runner (or even if you are and you like this question better!) what is the scariest thing about reaching your goals? Is it actually reaching them, or all the challenges you may face ahead of you?

I'll be back in the AM with responses AND with a fresh question! Thank you guys for bearing with me!!

NOt a runner, but I'm walking a lot...shooting for 30 miles every week..hit it 75% of the time...averaging about 100 a month. Just finished my six for today and my dadgum feet are soo sore!! I am soo hopeful that getting these last 50-60 pounds off will make it so much easier on my joints!! I have lost 60 pounds so far and that does FEEL great, just can't imagine being at goal once and for good! I think that is my biggest fear is getting back to 175 and needing a break and losing my mojo...I need to not stop until I get to 150s and not beat myself up if I have a bad day...but the walking REALLY helps to shave off the inches!

Hi everyone, I'm jumping back in after being MIA from an older thread since my boyfriend and I went vegan last fall... It was one of the BEST decisions I've ever made, but it completely changed the way I was eating (and tracking my eating) and threw a wrench in my weight loss for a while. Because of a bunch of travel and general craziness recently, I gained about 5 pounds back that I'd lost, and it reminded me how helpful it was to be around others who were going on the same journey. My goal is to finish this summer strong (without dropping out again!) and to set myself up for success for the fall.

I'm going to go way back to the beginning and catch up on this thread, but I wanted to say hello and start off by answering the QOTD:

If you're not a runner (or even if you are and you like this question better!) what is the scariest thing about reaching your goals? Is it actually reaching them, or all the challenges you may face ahead of you?

To me the scariest thing is that one of my big motivators is having this vision of myself that is so idealized (at my goal weight), but when I see how slowly the weight actually comes off I get worried that my goal is completely unrealistic. Or, that if I ever actually DO reach that goal, it will come right back on when I stop counting calories (like it did this past couple of months... oh wait, that was probably all the french fries and cookies....) Mostly, though, I just am happy when I feel healthy, and that's what I try to stay focused on.

Can't wait to catch up and read all of your thread... I hope everyone is having a great summer!!!

Quote from Dare2Dream: How is your week going? Are you OP (on program)? Are you exercising? Drinking that water? You know what to do to make the magic happen. Get on the wagon. We are all here to help you on the journey. We can do this one day at a time. One bite at a time.

Have a healthy day!
Congratulations tiki23!!!

What a great week you had. Keep up the good work. We have a very special clippie reserved for our weekly Biggest Loser. Wear it with pride this week! :

 WOW - that's ME! :yay: Thanks to all the help I've received on this board, and to all of our coaches and record keepers. I'd still be back gaining and losing the same 10lbs without help and encouragement.

Congrats to everyone in the challenge! :goodvibes

Hi everyone! Sloooowly getting back in the saddle. Work has been busy, the kids' summer camp schedule is bananas, and I've been so tired since we got back from FL. Excuses, excuses! But I'm happy to report that I've been on target with my exercise plan. I'm two runs away from finishing my C25K program, and then I'll be picking up the training program for the Tower of Terror 10-Miler. :cool1: We'll be at MIL's this weekend (DDs will stay through for the week at Camp Grandma), and I have to figure out a good place to run there...very rural, not the safest roads for running. Worst case, I'll go when we get back on Sunday.

Way to go, Alice! And all you losers out there! I think summer is one of the hardest times of year to lose (speaking personally) - vacations, summer treats, etc. - and you are all an inspiration!

I have never participated in a Disney run or any other real run. After trying hard to like/love running, I've decided it just isn't the thing for me. That said, I will still run/walk for exercise on a regular basis because it is good for me. But I am no longer going for distance and/or time.... just for pure cardio.

The scariest thing about reaching my goal.... STAYING THERE!

Welcome back! Good for you for coming back with just 5 pounds back on. It is so much better than waiting until you've gained it all back plus 20 (not that I know anything about that.... :rolleyes1 ).

That said, if you intend to keep this weight off for a lifetime, you should plan on counting calories (or Points or carbs.... whatever your system) for a lifetime.

I live in a pretty rural area and these are my running tips. First of all... if it is like where I live, you are in more danger from animals than anything else! I can run for an hour and not see a car or other human being.... but I might see a skunk, deer, turkey, heron, possum, fox, ermine, bat, assorted squirrels and chipmunks, and lots of birds (have seen all those) or bear, moose, coyote, or fisher cat (not yet, but someday).

Wear a reflective vest and carry a small penlight if running at dawn or dusk. Carry pepper spray if you are concerned about dogs or wild animals (but DON'T use it on bears!! It just pisses them off!). Don't be afraid to sing or whistle or talk to yourself.... it will keep the critters away.

If you are using earbuds keep the volume low or just use one. It is a bit alarming when it is so quiet and suddenly there is a car up next to you. Helpful to be able to hear things around you.

Carry your cell phone. Not that I think that you will need it for human-related dangers, but if you were to twist your ankle or something and needed help, if there aren't any folks around you (as there would be in a more suburban or urban area), you might be SOL. Be sure your family knows when to expect you back.

Keep safe and run fast!!

Morning friends! Woke initially with a "headache hangover" and opted to let my friend drive DD from swim practice to Driver's Ed at 8:45. So I was able to just drop her at the pool and return home. But by then my hangover was feeling better (maybe the coffee helped??) and I am feeling full of vim and vigor!

So far, since arising at 5:09 am, I have driven DD to the practice pool and returned home (40 minutes each way if the lights are with me), emptied the dishwasher, washed and hung out two loads of laundry, run a few miles ( :thumbsup2 ), pulled weeds til I was dirty and sweaty (didn't take long in this humidity), made myself a healthy breakfast and cleaned up from said breakfast, read all my emails, and now I'm visiting you all!!

I will leave here in a bit and make a stop at the bank, the P.O., and the transfer station before changing directions and heading south to pick up DD at Driver's Ed. Should be home by lunch..... just gotta figure out what lunch will be today.

Gotta get moving! TTYL......................P

I have the same thoughts, kollerbear. Like, what if I get there and it's nothing like I thought it would be or I'm not in the shape I thought I would be? It can definitely be scary! But for me, the scariest part is what happens if I stay where I am? But you can do it! And going vegan? That's so cool!

For some people, it's just not their thing. I think it's the competitive nature in me that likes to run, but it certainly isn't for running's sake!

In case y'all haven't seen this.

Hi Everyone! I want to join in!

I am going to Disney World for the FIRST time next month (32 days to be exact). I just love these boards for planning.

I've also been trying to lose weight my entire life. I tend to yo-yo. I'm on an upswing right now. Calorie counting works well for me when I do it. I recently tried Atkins and I lost 6 lbs and then started gaining and losing the same 2 lbs so I've swiched back to calorie counting. I also want to get in better shape so I can enjoy Disney instead of being winded and worn out.

I guess that's a good start. I look forward to getting to know everyone! :goodvibes

welcome pirate:

WOW! Two weeks in a row being in the top 10??? That's crazy!!

I'm waiting on Alan to get home with ink cartridges with my printer. I need to get some stuf printed off and taken care of. I think I'm going to do some light strength training today. I did 90 minutes of exercise yesterday between swimming, walking, and ST. I also need to figure out what we're doing for dinner. Nothing much planned today other then finishing up some things we didn't finish yesterday. Hoping to hear back from my RE's office today pertaining to a refill on one of my drugs.

Everyone have a great day!

Now comes the hard part - I have to learn how to ride it. :rotfl2:
I could barely ride a bike when I was a kid, and don't think I even know how to anymore. I do, however, live across the street from an elementary school schoolyard - so I'm going to practice there (away from the public eye!!).
Any tips??? :confused3

Pedal FAST :rotfl:! That is what I had to keep on telling DS who wanted to pedal slowly so he could hit the ground with his feet when he started to tip. But unless you are going at a decent speed, it won't stay up!

Good idea about the school yard. Gives you room to learn. I climbed on a bike after years of not riding one, and it was like I had never stopped (except I had a lot more energy after I was younger!). But I rode my bike everywhere back then. DS never took to bike riding, he likes to run or walk, but I need to haul my bike back out of the garage and start up again. I have a helmet, and you kick up a breeze, so not as bad in hot weather.

Have fun!

Disney owns marvel but does not own the rights to the spiderman movies. Before Disney bought marvel marvel was losing money (a lot of it) so began selling rights to the movies. Sony owns the rights to the spiderman movies. The reason this movie got made is per the contract Sony would have to make a movie every few years or the rights would be put back up for sale. So hence you have a "reboot" of a franchise that wasn't old enough to be rebooted. So long story short, that's why there is no disney logo, because they had nothing to do with the film! The politics of the movie industry! Haha

Well that's crazy. Why buy just the comics and not the movie rights? I wonder how much they overpaid for that.

It was kind of interesting that they included Stan Lee in the movie though, who has been with SpiderMan since his beginning (I loved SpiderMan as a teen). He played a small bit part (the librarian), but it really stands out in the movie.

Hi everyone:wave2:
I'm new to this thread, but not the challenge. I was on team mickey years ago but have gone astray. I just need some motivation and a bit of accountability. I look forward to getting to know everyone.

:welcome: Just pop up and start talking! It's a great group!

I myself had a small NSV last night and managed to avoid a much craved late evening snack. I was truly a bit hungry but mostly just craving a sweet after a late dinner. But I made myself leave the kitchen and not return. DD made me a late cup of decaf green tea to sip and I ended the day right on target for Points!

Those late night cravings are the worst for me, and with the day quieting down I have more time to think about what I want to - but shouldn't ;) -eat.
Good job resisting!

Bambi can be totally legit- he had perseverance and whimsy. You need those to make it, for sure!

I like that!

DS already had braces on top and bottom, so getting the expander out was a big deal lol. We are still in phase 1 and I am hoping we don't need phase 2! Yikes! Tell DS good luck at CC training. My nephew started conditioning this week (9th grade but he ran in junior high).

He fell yesterday while out running and hurt his neck. He skipped today since it still hurts. He should do OK with training, he was in T&F with the same coach in this spring, and he encourages them to do CC. He might miss the first week though. He needs to have some teeth removed for his braces, and the first one is the 26th. He wants all four out at once instead of two and two so he can recover faster! He said he will sip soup all week

No problem. Like someone else said, it is a quiet time. I'll probably have to post it the night before, I never have time in the morning!

I think the challenges I face once I reach my goal. Right now, trying to lose this weight, it is simply following the rules. Keeping to them, not relapsing, once I reach the goal is the big thing. It is all too easy to see, I've done it now I don't have to keep track. I came close to my goal, and let it slip away - but because I got rid of all my "fat" clothes, I reigned myself in when my clothes were feeling uncomfortable. When I get closer, maybe I will lose another size, and then give away my current size!

:welcome: I wish I had thought to do that my first trip - you are smart to start early. Start walking now as well - you will walk miles at Disney! I was amazed at how far we went each day. You are going to have a blast! These boards let you know what to expect and how to get the most out of your days!

I do WW. It is like calorie counting in that you can eat whatever you want as long as you keep track and stay within your daily limit.

*******************************************************

DS took a tumble the other day, DH said it looked like he rolled since he had dirt on all sides. But he wrenched his neck, and DH just happened to be home that morning, so he picked him up. He is still resting it today, just took a short walk.

Trying to arrange for him to have 4 teeth pulled as well. The dentist wants 2 each for 2 appointments, DS wants all four pulled at once. They are the smaller ones, the bicuspids (sp?). Gak! But he doesn't want to miss much of the CC training that starts the 1st.

So much for a nice, quiet, relaxed summer!

But we do go to Busch Gardens this weekend for a nice 4 days break. As long as it doesn't get too hot, we should be oK. Calling for 90 right now M & T, but those things can change - hope they do! Maybe change our water park day for the regular park, but the regular park might be crazy busy on Sunday...locals if nothing else.

Well, back to work :goodvibes ! Take care all.

Pedal FAST :rotfl:! That is what I had to keep on telling DS who wanted to pedal slowly so he could hit the ground with his feet when he started to tip. But unless you are going at a decent speed, it won't stay up!

Oh that bike is soooo cute!!!

Let's see....tips...... wear a helmet!!!

Make sure the seat is the right height. When you pedal your knees don't come up into your chest. But while sitting on the seat you should still be able to touch the ground. DH said that when you are on the pedals, and the pedal is down towards the ground, your knee should still be slightly bent.

Learn the brakes before getting on the bike. My brother broke his collarbone a few years ago when he was learning how to ride because he expected the brakes to be "pedal backwards" like all kid bikes, but his had brake levers on the handles.

A lot of it is about balance. Make sure your butt is centered on the seat.

Cute shoes! And learning how to ride a bike is (forgive the expression, but...) like riding a bike! But Buffy has the most important tip- don't forget your helmet!!!

I agree with starting in the school yard... somewhere flat and straight without much of an "audience" around. You'll be less self-conscious. I agree with Buffy...wear a helmet!! Be sure that the bike is adjusted well for you. You're leg shouldn't go straight when full extended with the pedal down....you should still have a bit of a bend to the knee... about 20 degrees I think. And NEVER, EVER use JUST the front brake. You can go flying over the handle-bars, head over heels.

Thanks for all of the advice. :thumbsup2

I did buy a helmet - the bike came with a coupon for 10% off a helmet, so I took advantage of it.

I'm going to give it a shot tonight in the schoolyard. Assuming both of my arms aren't broken, I'll check in with an upate. :)

In case y'all haven't seen this.

Marsha Coughlin "Mackey Mouse" was a moderator on the disboards and a great friend to us all for many years. She passed away recently after a long and brave fight with cancer. We are going to bring the boards down and put up a tribute page on Wednesday from 11am to noon during her funeral.

Aww.... I don't specifically know her, but I definitely recognize the user name.... especially from my days when I was more active on more of the boards. Prayers for her family and friends.

:goodvibes

Welcome, welcome!! Glad you are here with us! You only have a short time to get your feet and legs ready for all of the walking at Disney, but you can do it! Buy your "vacation" sneakers/walking shoes now and start breaking them in!!

How much exercise are you used to doing? Or are you starting from zero? If you are just starting up and haven't done any sort of walking/running, might I suggest just starting with a mile a day for a few days to see how the feet and legs hold up. If that goes well, progress to either 2 miles a day or one mile twice a day. It isn't much, but better than overdoing and ending up sore and possibly injured right before your trip!

Thanks for all of the advice. :thumbsup2

Best of luck.... can't wait to hear how it goes!

Afternoon friends! Keeping pretty busy today, but stopping to play some Wii games with DS. He has been pretty bored lately with all of the time I've been spending driving DD here, there, and everywhere. So far we've done Wii archery and Wii table tennis and Wii swordfighting, and Wii wakeboarding. Maybe next we'll play some Mario Cart.

Lunch was boneless pork loin chops on the grill, grilled summer squash from the garden, and roasted veggie souffle (frozen) for DD and I, brown rice for DS. Dinner will be "grab what you can" as I head out AGAIN to drive DD to swim practice. And AGAIN I will probably kill time with a $1 coffee at McDonald's while I cruise the internet (Pinterest is a new addiction.... I resisted as long as I could!). I might pop into Manchester to return a few things to Walmart and ToyRUs too.

DS took the clothes in from the line when it looked like rain about noon, but the rain never developed and the clothes weren't dry, so I put them back out again.... so technically I hung FOUR loads of clothes today!! :lmao:

I haven't showered yet (I am grimy!) so I may head out to pull weeds for a few more minutes before showering and popping DD to the Y.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to write a little hello post to everyone on the thread to introduce myself. I am a 40 year old wife and mother. I have been running now for 4 years and have completed around 9 half marathons. I am not that I love to run person, but I do appreciate it. In my opinion Disney races are the best! My husband is a marathon runner and loves to run so he got me started. I also Zumba, which i do love!

I have been on WW in the past and I really liked it. I believe I need to watch what I eat, not stress so much in general and not emotionally eat to keep my weight down. I am looking forward to being a part of this challenge.

Good evening everyone.

On my second week of teaching classes. I am a little upset that I did this but I keep telling myself that it is all for the money. I am enjoying meeting the students I will have in Sept but with it being so hot I am not getting as much done as I would like around here.

Welcome to this group. We are a little quiet this summer but that happens. There will probably be a new one starting up in Sept and that will probably be more active.

Where are you staying in DW. I will be there from the 16th to the 24th. We will be at ASMu from the 16th to the 19th and then switch over to BLT to join my sis and her family in a 3 bedroom suite.

In case y'all haven't seen this.

I was very sad to here about Mackey MOuse. She was such and inspiration caring for her dh and then to come down with cancer herself. I am glad that they are doing something for her.

Laura I am glad to hear that you are getting a helmet. Someone I knew was in a terrible crash and the helmet saved his life.

Congrats to all our losers this week. Keep up the good work.

Have a happy and healthy day.
