Biggest Loser Purple Team - Week 7!

Terry - :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I'm glad I got moving!! I had to take pictures in the neighborhood so I walked instead of drove around (gasp! what a concept - good for me, my dogs and the enviroment!) and then worked out. Now I'm going to email the pics to our web guru and then hop on the treadmill for 20 minutes.

We lived in Ballwin, West county. I loved it there!! I found it to be very family friendly. I loved all the parks and trails as well as the school system and the zoo and science center. We made some good friends, although none were orignally from SL. DH took a while to adjust though.

I feel your pain about the weight gain...I have to have cancer scans every other year and used to have to go off my meds for them for 6 weeks...basically no metabolism for the last 2 weeks and I gained 10 - 15 pounds during those 2 weeks and I thought THAT was tough... :grouphug: but it's definitely better than the alternative! What used to always get me though was that I wasn't even eating anything to cause it - no pizza, chips, and it still went up. Fortunately for me it's "used to" because the wonderful researchers at a drug company have developed some artifical stuff I can take so I don't have to go off my meds. Anyway back to you...so has your body adjusted to your meds now and how does this impact your weight loss? (BTW are you going to Barnes?)

bcvprincesses - awesome progress!! 17 pounds in 5 weeks is fabulous! I have found it's easy to get stuck in the "thryoid" issue. Yes it can be harder to lose weight but it's not impossible, we just have to be monitor our points/calories etc more carefully. And you're proof of that!

Jennifer ~ Thanks for the compliment. You are so sweet! I'll have to find a "before" picture and post it. ;)

Mike ~ You are truly an inspiration! I LOVE your attitude!!!! :goodvibes I love mushrooms also.

All of you that have or had major health issues...cancer, MS, thyroid, etc. are amazing to me. I look up to y'all so much! I know it is so hard to fight your weight while taking all of the meds (especially the steroids). My aunt died of a brain tumor and was on steroids for years before she died. She gained so much weight that you could barely recognize her. You all rock!!!

Jennifer - Yes I definitely related to Doc on BL this week! :) Thank you for your kind words too.

Sheila - Thank you! Now you got me wanting some mushrooms! LOL :)

How's it going Purples?? :flower:
Mike

Well...since you asked...I did get on the treadmill and have a total of 1 hour and 20 minutes exercise today...go me! :cheer2: Now I need to keep at it...this is the time of weight loss when I have, in the past, decided it's not worth it and go back to my old ways (or should that be weighs?) but not this time...now I'm nervous about when BL is over what will I do?! You all have truly been a big help, like Jana said, I don't want to lie to my Dis'ers. :teeth:

Sheila - I'd love to see a pic! I had to go back and read Mike's post after reading yours, I thought maybe there was a secret mushroom joke I was missing...

Mike - you're welcome! The pizza sounds yummy, how long/what temp do you cook it at?

We need to round up some missing challengers...I'm gonna bug Christie (dopey4disney), if you see anyone lurking at other spots on the boards kindly guide them in this direction.

Go purple!! I'm excited to see our losses for this week!

Jen - I also don't have a thyroid - I had cancer and it was removed. I'm on tons of meds because of a problems from a second operation. I'm surprised to hear that your weigh is fluctuating because of your meds...I haven't heard that before. Do you go to an endo? Is she checking TSH along w/T4 levels? You can pm me if you want to...sorry I'm being so nosy!

Really? Ever since i started the meds, when i was 15, they told me that my weight would be crazy--they were definitely right..theres some times that i will be sooo hungry and eat everything in sight and not gain a pound..then theres times i have no appetite, and i gain weight...its a mess!
Im apparently a "rare" case...the problems s tarted when i was 8, and thats when i had my first surgery ( i had 1/2 of my thyroid removed along with the tumors)...then when i was 15, the tumors grew back so they went in and took the rest of the thyroid..then at 16, i had scar tissue surgery..now, at 21, im getting ready to go to a new endo as ive been having alot of problems and they think it may be time for more surgery..
i just got my TSH checked and they said it was borderline normal..so they will check again in 3 weeks..

wow, sorry guys, didnt realize it got so long while i was typing :)

Happy Friday, Purple team!

Jennz--thank you for the compliment! I love to eat, so it's been difficult, but exciting!

Mike--your mushroom pizza sounds delicious! How exactly do you make it and (I'm not a cook mind you) where do you find the mushrooms? I only know how to find mushrooms in a jar.

Have a great weekend!
Jana :flower:

Wow! Reading all these posts has definitely reenergized me! Week 7 and Halloween time is definitely harder than Week 1 and 2.

Today I exercised for 45 minutes first thing in the morning. I knew I had a busy day so it was the only time I had. I'm glad I made myself do it, but I never really got into it. I felt sluggish and tired. Does anyone exercise early morning, and if you do, do you eat before?

I think I had a divine intervention at lunch. My kids and I took my grandma out to lunch. I ordered a healthy salad that came with two pieces of not healthy bread. I tore one up for my son and was going to eat the other one. Well, I dropped it on the floor before I even had one bite! :rotfl:

Mike - Do you put meat on the pizza?

Jennifer - How was ZooBoo? Have you done the Children's Museum's Haunted House? We're thinking about doing both tomorrow. My kids love friendly hours at the haunted house, but I am thinking it could be packed on the weeked.

Everyone have an exercise filled weekend!! :bounce:

My goal is no Halloween candy until Monday, and then I will pick my favorite piece and savor it!

Ok, here is my portabella pizza recipe:

(1) Preheat oven to 350 F.

(2) Stem portabellas and wipe with a paper towel to remove any dirt. Then I drizzle a smidge of olive oil on each side of the mushroom and season with sea salt (or kosher), cracked black pepper, minced garlic & italian seasonings. I then place the mushrooms, stem side up, in a baking dish, leaving at least an inch or two between each. DO not crowd them! (You could also sub other things for the olive oil, like italian dresssing/vinagarette, balsamic vinegar, etc. So you could go fat free if you need to.)

(3) Top each mushroom with approx 1 TBSP of sauce, I use a low carb tomato sauce usually, or if I want to be decadent alfredo sauce. You could also use regular tomato sauce, diced tomato, salsa, etc. USe more if you like or use less. Ooh, Pesto is also great or rehydrated sundried tomatoes diced & tossed with garlic, olive oil & basil.

(4) Add your shredded cheese. I usually use a mix of mozz and provolone I grate myself. Any blend will do, fat free even.

(5) Add your toppings! I usually will add diced pepperoni, diced green peppers & onions, crumbled italian sausage, anything really. The important thing is to be sure to dice everything because they will not cook as well if they are the size of regular pizza toppings. I usually add a sprinkle of italian seasoning, parmesean cheese, and a touch more mozz.

(6) Bake for 15 min, remove pan from oven and drain liquid. There will be a fair amount. Bake for another 5-10min until cheese is bubbly & brown like your fave pizza place. Remove, let rest a minute and enjoy!

The mushrooms will give off a ton of liquid so the draining of the pan helps give em some nice browning those last few minutes & removes excess grease. If you have not had Portabella mushrooms they are meaty and delicious. You can find them in your produce aisle near your regular button mushrooms. They are about 4in diameter or so usually. The big stems can be chopped for toppings or saved and used the next day in a stir fry, or anything. This recipe of course can be varied... use salsa, ground beef, taco seasoning & cheddar for Taco Shrooms. Pesto, diced chicken, and provolone would be yummy. Heck, even a little white sauce, diced ham and sliced brie could be delish! :) Hope someone likes it and I answered all the questions about the recipe. I like my pizza cheese brown and crisp some times so I run these under a hot broiler for a minute or two, if you do this be sure to watch em as they burn fast. :)

Have a great night all!
Mike :goodvibes

Hello Purple Team!

This year I turned 50 (last March) and I decided I needed to take better care of myself. Since January I have lost 15 lbs total, but for the last month or two I have been losing and gaining back and forth. I think the biggest difference in my life has been preparing for the WDW half marathon in January. I now walk about 10 miles per week, which is a huge improvement for me.

Everyone here on the WISH board is so inspirational, let's keep striving to be the best we can be(I just love cliches!!).

Goodafternoon everyone,
Last night I walked 45 minutes on the treadmill, I am getting to be a slug, I had promised myself an hour but have not been keeping that promise.
I have increased my speed though and it does tire me out so I'll try to keep up the speed and increase my time as well.

Hello everyone! It is a beautiful fall day here! I took a 40 minute walk/run, and now I am off for a day of Halloween fun with the family!

Hi Purple Teammates!

It is a beautiful day in Chicagoland. I just got back from a 6 mile walk along the I&M Canal. It was 5 miles at a 16 minute/mile pace, and 1 mile warm up/cool down. I wish the weather would stay like this until - oh - maybe the week of Christmas so we could have some snow, and then come back until spring. Wishful thinking I guess, but it sure is beautiful today.

Posting my Saturday exercise, I did the 2 mile WATP tape, 1/2 an hour and then a 1/2 hour on the treadmill. So that gives me a total of 1 hour.
Today is a beautiful day here, I think I will get outside and get a walk in.

Hello to our merged purple team. I haven't been on the boards much this past week (a crazy one around here). I'll start by introducing myself. I am 36, married to DH for 15 years, have two children DD-12, DS-11. We homeschool, are very active in Cub Scouts, and our local homeschool group. I also do some side bookkeeping out of the house. I lost approx. 50 pounds several years ago on WW and then gained it all back after forgetting how difficult it was to lose the weight. I re-joined WW the end of August and have lost 13 pounds so far. I am also training to participate in the 1/2 marathon at Disney again this year. I vowed last year that I could do better than I did and not feel so beat up afterwards if I lost some weight and trained like I needed to.

The WISH board has been such a great inspiration for me and this BL challenge has been wonderful as well.

I did gain .4 of a pound last week so I'm really working hard to get that off plus more for WI this coming week.

I haven't eaten any candy yet (helps to not have it at the house) and don't know that I will. I don't have too much of a sweet tooth.

Keep up the great work everyone! Looking forward to being the computer more this week.

I finally scanned some of my "before" pictures. These pics were taken before I lost 50 lbs.

Here's me this past summer. As you can see, I still have a good bit to lose.
